《Burn Archer》Fifteen- The Maze of Flames

The scream of help choked me awake to the sight of a desperate man.
"Help me please! Please wake up! I'm begging you!"
We rubbed our eyes, quickly scrambling to our feet.
"What's the problem?" I asked politely as I pulled the strands of hay out of my braids.
"My farmhouse is burning. You were the first people that I saw!" he begged pointing to a flaming barn house.
"Oh, my god," I heard Ivory whisper.
On reflex, my legs bolted up the hill, towards the large bonfire. My ears were blocking out the distant cries of caution that followed.
As we ran closer to the farmhouse, I saw a small figure in the top window waving their hand, trying to get my attention.
"My gosh! There's someone still inside!" I screamed as the others caught up to me. "I'm going in! You guys get the fire down using a hose or something!"
"Burn! No don't go, you're gonna get killed!" Ash shouted.
"You underestimate me!" I shouted back at him.
"I don't! I know that you're strong Burn, but this- it's a suicide mission!"
Eleanor slapped her hand to her head. "She doesn't listen to anybody."
I ran inside the perfect horror film house. The smell dominated every breath as I raced up the stairs, dodging flames as they danced down from the ceiling.
The upper floor had many rooms which made it even harder- regardless of the smoke which was blocking my vision- to know which room the trapped person was in.
A screech boomed into my ears, making my body follow towards it.
A small girl with blue skin was standing in the corner, crying and screaming.
"Hey! Come here!" I screamed gesturing my hands.

The girl shook her head. "It's too dangerous! I'm gonna die!"
"You're gonna end up dying there anyway so why not try," I said politely this time.
She stared terrified at the burning fire around her and sprinted towards me. When she reached me, she flung her hands out, tightly wrapping them around my waist.
"Alright- now let's get out of here," I coughed into her ear as I pulled her out of the room.
As we raced down the stairs, I pulled her closer to me, trying to put the flames off with my shoes. We pushed through the scorching furniture towards the front door.
Suddenly a large cabinet that stood near the alight wall fell in front of us blocking our passage out and spreading the fire even more.
To make things worse, the air smelt of burning, acrid, chemical infused and choking.
A scream formed in our throats but I glanced around for other exits.
"We can go outta that window!" I screamed pointing at a burning window.
She stared at me as if I'd gone mad. "Are you crazy?! It's literally on fire."
"Stay low!"
We ran through the maze of flame, ducking down and luckily it was wide open.
"We're never gonna make it," I groaned to myself.
"Ash! Ella! Come and put the fire out over here!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
The girl and I were coughing uncontrollably by the time they came by the window and put the fire down for a couple of seconds.
"Jump!" I shouted.
The girl closed her eyes and leapt out of the window. She reached the other side safely and Eleanor helped her out.
Ash gestured for me to hurry and jump through the window. I got ready to dash through but suddenly the curtain exploded pushing me as it fell on top of the window.

"No!" I heard Ash roar.
"Try taking the back door! The boy can meet you there!" the girl screamed as she coughed.
I searched for the back door near the kitchen, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
My lungs felt as if they were about to explode with smoke and I couldn't breathe much longer.
Suddenly I spotted a white door near the sofa. I ran towards it as fast as I could, but paused when I realised that the door was burning more wildly than any part of the house.
I brought my face closer to the door frame to observe it.
It had oil dripped all over it and a burnt matchstick. Suddenly the door broke from the outside causing me to jump back.
Ash stood outside the doorway. "Quick come through!"
"Just wait a sec," I murmured as I pulled out my phone and took a photo of the oily door frame.
"Oh, my god. This wasn't an accident."

This Used to be About Dungeons
This Used to be About Dungeons is a comfy slice-of-life adventuring story that occasionally features dungeons. Updates Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Mostly it's about walking in the woods with a friend, looking for mushrooms to put in your soup, or haggling with the guy selling squash, or taking care of a neglected garden. It's putting some jam on shortbread biscuits. And yes, sometimes you go down into the dungeons with your friends, and you kill monsters there, or disarm traps, but when you come out, you realize you've found the perfect magic item to give to one of the local kids that helped you out when your cat was sick. Look, the dungeons are always going to be there, and sometimes you need to make a journey to one of the Spirit Gates, or make a pilgrimage with the local Cleric of Symmetry to a holy shrine. Your tour through the local dungeons can wait. You'll have rivalries with other groups, and find some dungeon eggs that need to be carefully incubated in case they turn out to be something valuable, and help a friend to build a fishing weir. There's a big world out there, a mostly tame place with lots of magic, and even more to do and see. Join me, won't you?The cover image is Morning Sunlight Effect, Eragny, by Camille Pissarro.

World Servers - Dawn
The year is 2143, and much of the world’s population has been digitized for decades. Different servers are configured for different purposes. Some servers are pure gaming worlds. Others are offshoots of fringe political experimentation or regimes. Still others are based around ethnic or nationalist sentiment. Some replicate past times or past eras. And still others have been designed as totally imaginary locations created out of the dreams of programmers and the Artificial Intelligences that have been used to build and drive them. The gaming guild I Like Big Booty is a loosely affiliated group of friends and avid players. Theirs is an international guild which spans multiple servers, mostly running raids, ganking other players in PVP, and generally trying to build up the funds to purchase their own home world server. On one of the most populous servers – designed to resemble 20th century earth – a small raid team running a boring and routine run in Washington DC, comes across something that might change the fate of Virtual Reality across the solar system. Note: Per request, the title has been changed, though I might change it again when if I come up with something a little better.

[Comics*] Season Of Destruction
Born as mortal sons to Napoleon Bonaparte's personal surgeon and forever altered by the sinister mentor who made them orphans, bloodsucking vampire brothers Lucien, Thibault and Marcel are less Lugosi, more dashing serial killers, sour and snobbish, fond of fine things. Not unlike a competitive clan of creepy Kennedy cousins. These nearly immortal all-stars of mayhem and murder lack talons, retractable fangs and vulnerability to garlic or sunshine. They cast shadows. They make reflections in mirrors, and when buried, our boys enter a state of metabolic suspension, "sleeping" until it's safe to rise and return to their work, harvesting heads. After more than 150 years in hibernation, the vampires are revived by the spilled blood of methamphetamine users killed in a gangland ambush. The trio are instantly and utterly addicted - not to the toxic drug itself, but to the blood of those who intravenously use meth. Soon the frankendrug's grip draws their destinies into a narrow spiral of addiction, and their plans to return to modern France are sidetracked, then forgotten as they become lost in the American empire-turned-nightmare of 2028. Season of Destruction is a story that runs on bodies. It's a swim meet in a shark tank, and very few make it out alive. It's a story about the beginning of the end of the world.
