《Burn Archer》Zero- Burn Archer

"You can come in now, Miss Archer."

I untangled my legs, which were twisted from the frustration of the situation. My eyes shifted from my converse shoes to the familiar old lady that stood ahead of me while her hand rested on the door knob. Her smug smile reminded me of the last visit that I had to her office, which was yesterday. I was here too soon, two days in a row.

"I didn't think that being a principal would be much work, but you seem like you're ready to quit the job," I said as I sighed with an eye roll. My bottom escaped the warm seat as I pushed myself up using the handle bars.

"I love being the principal because I get to meet delightful children like you," she mocked.

I strolled into the office and took in the smell of old tobacco which I was too accustomed to. My sweaty hands pulled down on my bag straps as I sat down on the principal's seat. "You don't mind if we swap positions for today, do you? I've gotten quite sick of that leather seat," I said to the old lady.

"You can do that once I see an improvement in your behaviour," she responded with her eyebrows creased.

I slowly rose up and took my seat on the other side of the clean desk which had a notebook in the centre of the desk and an empty pencil holder. She had hung up photos of her dead dogs on every inch of the four walls and had their skin on display near the window.

I buried my hands in my head and waited for my regular speech which seemed to always return to consequence of my upbringing. "Burn, this is the second time in a row that you're up here."

"Well a lot of other girls are worse than me but the teachers always seem to be picking on me," I murmured.

"Look, they're just concerned about behaviour, especially after you're sister-"

"Don't you dare bring her into this!" I shouted, a little too loud, as I slammed my hand on her desk.

Her expression was priceless as she raised her eyebrows in astonishment and leaned back in her chair. "This is exactly the sort of behaviour that we mean."

I bit my bottom lip as I felt a knife plunged into my chest. "Please, shut up," I spoke sternly, "You have no rights to talk about my family."

"Look, in our modern world today, families have to provide their children with freedom or else they'll turn like...how should I put it... like you. You're family doesn't let you look pretty or anything what a normal girl's supposed to do. No wonder you don't have many friends."

"My parents only want to protect me," I said through my gritted teeth.

"From what?" She was smiling by then and glaring at me like a meal.

I ferociously stood up and kicked her desk. My family was my weakness and it made me lose my temper. I ended up stomping out of her office, slamming the door behind me and glared at the usual faces that watched my tantrum. My sessions with the principal always ended like this and I was certain that the staff enjoyed every moment.

I returned to class and as I sat down, I saw a few faces turn towards me. I gave each of them dirty looks and stared blankly at the teacher for a few moments. She was ranting on about the Pythagoras Theorem. I couldn't help but wonder which real life situations that the theory would be applied to.

I felt a subtle tap of my table and I studied the girl that held a note out to me. When I didn't take it instantly, she quickly threw it on my desk and shifted her focus to the teacher. I hesitated for a moment before I picked it up.

'Have I mentioned how lucky I am to have fallen in love with you? Wanna go grab lunch tomorrow? I'll text you on Instagram today ;)

~ Jason'

I couldn't help but laugh at the romance in the letter. It escalated so quickly that I forgot what it was sent for.

The time he had requested for was already rejected in my head since it was my napping session. "Sorry, I can't make it," I called out to him. Jason, the boy who I hadn't even talked to this year.
