《Sure Thing, Commander ✔︎》9

Dogma smirked at Rex, then walked away from his cell. Rex roared in anger and punched the cell door. He winced in pain and shook his hand, but he still was fuming with rage. He sulked over to the corner of his prison cell and sat down. He ran a hand through his blonde hair, which had become considerably longer over time. Still, it was short and didn't fall over his forehead.
He took the time to examine his cell. To his left was the cell door and a miserable sink that was rusted and a mustard yellow around the edges. Next to the sink was a hole in the ground which Rex guessed was the toilet. To his right was a steel slab, which was supposed to be his bed. He groaned and buried his face in his knees. If only Ahsoka was here.
She would somehow cheer Rex up, he just knew it. She would cuddle next to him and run a delicate hand over his face. She would tell him everything was gonna be alright and Rex would believe it. He yearned for her to be with him, but not in these conditions. He couldn't imagine her here. He didn't want to.
The sounds of mouse droids and voices over the intercoms filled Rex's ears. He groaned, plugging his ears with his fingers. Compared to Kashyyyk everything was so loud, announcements were blaring and ships rumbled. Yeah the animals were loud but this was different. Rex suddenly heard officers approaching and he hatched a plan.
"Who's in there?" a clone asked.
"Captain Rex" another mumbled.
"What? Why?"
"He apparently disobeyed Order 66 and betrayed the republic"
"Never thought he would do that"
Rex began to cough, so violently he put his hands around his throat. The troopers noticed this and peered at him through the cell door.
"What's going on in there?!" the clone yelled.
Rex coughed even more and stumbled around his cell. He fell backwards and shook vigorously. The clones began to panic. They were falling right into Rex's trap.
"What do we do?!" One asked, "He's got to be alive for the general!"
"We gotta help him then," another replied.
They both opened the door and rushed over to Rex. They pulled him up to his feet just as Rex stopped his act.

"What the-" a clone started.
"Thanks soldiers" Rex said with a sly grin, "You did all the work for me"
He elbowed one in the face, causing him to fall backwards. The other took out his blaster but Rex tripped him with his leg. The clone dropped his blaster and Rex snatched it up. He set it to stun, then shot the two troopers.
"Ahsoka are you there?" Obi wan asked.
Ahsoka darted over to the transmitter and accepted the message with the small hologram of Obi wan in sight.
"I'm here General Kenobi," she said with a sigh, "It's good to see you"
Obi wan smiled, "Good to see you too. I'm glad you're alright"
"Master Kenobi, I'm sorry to rush in but Anakin-" Ahsoka choked on her words.
A grim look passed over Obi wan's face, "He's gone Ahsoka"
Ahsoka let out a small yelp. Her heart felt like it was torn apart and the sinking feeling in her chest grew only larger.
"It turns out the Chancellor was the sith lord we were looking for" Obi wan said, stroking his beard, "He convinced Anakin to turn to the Dark side. Now Anakin is his apprentice, and he changed his name to Darth Vader"
This confirmed the visions Ahsoka had. A shiver ran down her spine and she rubbed her arms. Just the name put terrible thoughts into her mind. What would her former master do now that he had turned? She could hardly imagine the horrors he would do. Obi wan opened his mouth to speak then shut it again. There was a moment of stale silence which Ahsoka didn't like one bit.
"Do you know of any other Jedi that survived?" Obi wan asked with worried eyes.
Ahsoka shook her head, "And you?"
"Yoda, but I'm afraid that's it" he muttered, crossing his arms.
"Then that means" Ahsoka started, "All the other Jedi...are dead"
Obi wan nodded with a dark look and Ahsoka bit her lip. She couldn't believe that just a couple days ago everything had been normal. The Jedi were helping to bring the galaxy closer to peace and Ahsoka had been trying to help. Now everything was different. Obi wan, Yoda, and her were the only Jedi left. The Empire had begun to slowly take over, planet by planet. Worst of all Anakin, the one who was supposed to bring peace, and the war to an end, had joined the Empire. Things couldn't get any worse.

"I must be going, it turns out Senator Amidiala was pregnant with twins." Obi wan explained, "While Senator Organa has taken the girl, I must take the boy to a place where no one will find him"
"May the Force be With You" Ahsoka said.
"You too" Obi wan replied.
The hologram faded and Kenobi disappeared.
Rex dragged the clones to the corner of his cell and took off one's armor. He put the armor on and took the gun, creeping out of the cell.
"Sorry men" he muttered.
Rex put the helmet on, gun in his other hand. He retraced his steps to the landing area and glanced from behind a corner. There were clones everywhere, some of them Rex recognized. He spotted Wolffe, Gregor, and Cody. He sighed, knowing that if they caught him they would turn him in. Even though they were some of his best friends. Their inhibitor chips had other plans.
Rex slowly began to walk out from his hiding place and to the landing hanger. He seemed to blend right in, no one talked or even looked at him. Part of him liked this, but he was used to being a Commander. He was so used to his men greeting him or saluting him when he walked by. This was just...weird.
Rex looked around and spotted a LAAT gunship. It was the last of its kind. All the other ships were new to Rex. He only knew a little bit about flying, but figured he could escape on the gunship. He began to make his way towards the ship, hoping not to draw any attention to himself. So far so good.
Suddenly a message boomed over the intercoms, "ATTENTION PRISONER CT-7567 HAS ESCAPED. PLEASE BE ON HIGH ALERT AND REPORT TO A GENERAL IF YOU FIND HIM"
Then the chaos hit. Clones took off running in every direction. Commanders were shouting orders, little droids zoomed around, and everyone started the search. Rex needed to get out of here now. Luckily his own escape might be the perfect distraction. He hoped that no one would be paying attention to the ships. Then he could fly off without anyone knowing.
He dashed to the gunship and hopped into the pilot seat. Rex took one look at the controls and immediately regretted his decision. He didn't have a clue how to fly the ship. He took off his helmet and tossed it behind him.
"This one's gotta be it" he mumbled pushing a red button.
The ship fired, destroying a nearby shuttle. Rex winced hoping no one heard the explosion. He pushed another button and the ship fired up. His ears perked to the sound of yelling and clones began to rush in.
"There he is!" a clone shouted.
They all began to open fire and the bullets hit the ship. Rex pushed a lever forward and the ship began to fly towards the exit.
"Come on" Rex grumbled, "Come on!"
The troopers brought out a large gun that needed to be held up by a stand. They loaded it up and aimed it at the ship.
"Not good!" Rex yelled, forcing the lever forward.
"Aim!" a general shouted.
The ship jolted forward and Rex laughed, on the edge of hysteria. He was about to reach the exit. He was gonna do it. He was gonna get off this ship and go back to Ahsoka.
"Fire!"
He heard a loud BOOM and felt the impact as something huge hit the side of this ship.
"NO NO NO!" he cried.
The gunship started to spin out of control, knocking ships to the side, and nearly hitting the troopers. Rex yanked the lever to the side, stopping it from spinning. The side of the ship was on fire, that was never good. The ship spun some more before ricocheting off the wall, and crashing in front of the large army of clones.
It came to a screeching stop and Rex slumped down in his seat defeated. The clones made their way to the ship, surrounding it. Rex slowly got out, his hands raised in the air. He made his way over to the clones hanging his head.
"Don't move!" a clone cried.
He stopped walking and the trooper closest to him tackled Rex, pinning him to the ground. Rex grunted as the clone tore his arms out from under him and forced them behind his back. He heard footsteps and looked up to see Dogma coming towards him.
"Well I guess I've underestimated you" he growled, "I assure you it won't happen again"

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

The Edgars
A serial killer is wreaking havoc in a small European village, and Charles Edgar believes his estranged brother to be the culprit. But little does he know that a much darker truth lies behind the bloodshed; one that will bring betrayal and destruction to the entire Edgar lineage. (This is a one-act play. A (beat) indicates a pause in the dialogue.) Also, please feel free to rip this story apart in the reviews (if you're so inclined). I really want to improve as a writer, so any criticisms are more than welcomed.
