《Sure Thing, Commander ✔︎》4

The bright rays of the morning sun peaked in the shelter. Rex and Ahsoka were lying next to each other, in a deep sleep. The clone and former Jedi slept peacefully, their legs tangled. Ahsoka's head was on Rex's chest and his arm was holding her close to him. The cry of an Oryyka Howler echoed through the jungle, waking the two.
"Huh?" Ahsoka gasped, her eyes fluttering open.
Rex gave a long groan and yawned as he opened his eyes as well. For a moment neither noticed how they were cuddled next to each other. The lantern of Phosfleas was pushed to the side, in a corner of the tent. Then Rex looked down and his eyes widened. Ahsoka jumped up from where she was laying, her cheeks a light scarlet. Rex rubbed the back of his neck and sat up quickly.
"Sorry...I-" Rex started.
"No it was just-... You know-" Ahsoka said quickly.
"Yeah" Rex finished.
The awkwardness settled in and Rex did a mental forehead smack. The two outcasts stayed in silence letting the sounds of the animals waking fill the shelter. Ahsoka wondered how they had gotten so close over the night. Was it an accident or had Rex done it on purpose? She knew for sure that when she fell asleep she was at least a foot away from Rex. Rex wondered the same thing. Had they just drifted towards one another? Ahsoka's stomach let out a loud growl and she clutched it clearly embarrassed.
"Right" Rex muttered, "Food"
He hopped to his feet and jogged over to where he left the Sathog they hadn't eaten. But when he arrived he only found bones and blood stained grass. He let out a long sigh and walked back over to the tent.
"Guess some beasts beat us to it" he grumbled.
"There is a jungle with hungry animals surrounding us" Ahsoka pointed out, "What did you expect?"
"I at least would have thought they would find their own food" Rex mumbled.
Ahsoka smirked and crossed her arms, "Does that mean we are catching our own breakfast?"
"It does," Rex sighed.
The duo headed out into the forest. Rex was in front, slashing leaves, and vines out of their way with a vibroblade. Ahsoka followed close behind him watching out for any predators hunting for a meal. Sure they would have weapons and blasters to defend themselves. But successfully defeating the animal was another story.

Rex grunted as he sliced another plant in half. Ahsoka smiled and hopped over an uprooted tree. Everything here was an obstacle. Another challenge on the game of survival. A low growl thundered through the trees and both Rex and Ahsoka stopped in their tracks.
"What was that?" Rex asked brow knit.
"Probably a Tach" Ahsoka stated, "They're herbivores, eating fruits they find on the forest floor"
"You know a lot about the animals here," Rex pointed out.
"All thanks to my Jedi training I suppose" she said, "You've got to know most of the planets and what dangers you may face there"
Rex gave a quick nod before continuing his trek. Ahsoka listened closely to hear more growling. Something was coming. Rex stopped cutting and looked up to the huge Wroshyr trees all around them.
"Hide!" Ahsoka hissed diving behind a small rock.
Rex jumped next to her and they both crouched low to the ground. Just as they were out of sight a huge animal covered in grey fur stomped through the trees. It stopped and gave a quick look around. It had white fur covering it's odd shaped face. It's mouth, hands, and the tips of its knees were a darker maroon. The furry animal sat down, plucking the nearby bush clean of fruit.
"A Tach" Ahsoka gasped while studying the monkey looking creature.
"Are they dangerous?" Rex asked, whipping out his blasters.
Ahsoka shook her head, "They're herbivores, remember? They are usually harmless, friendly even"
Ahsoka stepped out from behind the rock and began to make her way over to the Tach.
"Ahsoka!" Rex silently screamed, "Stop!"
"It's not gonna hurt me" she pointed out venturing closer.
"You said they were usually harmless!" Rex called after her, "Usually!"
Ahsoka ignored Rex and walked right up to the creature, just inches away from it's bony, back. She stood and watched as it popped a handful of fruits into its mouth then licked its lips. Ahsoka couldn't help but grin. The creature suddenly turned around and became face to face with Ahsoka. It didn't seem to fear her nor feel threatened by the small girl. It just leaned in and sniffed her gently.

Ahsoka held her breath as the Tach cocked its head and gave a soft roar. It was being playful. Ahsoka reached her hand out and put her palm to the Tach's head. The creature accepted it and closed its eyes leaning into her hand. Ahsoka gave a small laugh of relief. She nodded for Rex to come over.
"Are you crazy?!" he yelled quietly.
She rolled her eyes, "Come on"
Rex shrugged, defeated. He then cautiously came out from behind the rock. He walked slowly up to where Ahsoka was, his face a sickening white. Ahsoka put a hand over her mouth to cover her laughter.
"This is not funny!" Rex hissed.
"Look, it's friendly" Ahsoka pointed out, rubbing the animal's head.
It gave a quiet hum and moved its gaze to Rex. It stepped closer to him and he recoiled in fear. Ahsoka took Rex's hand and guided it to the Tach's head. She placed his hand on the soft fur of the creature's forehead. Rex stiffened for a moment then relaxed, realizing the Tach had no intention of harming them.
"You never fail to amaze me Soka" he said in pure awe.
"I knew you'd come around Rexter" Ahsoka replied putting a hand on her hip.
Rex snapped to attention at his nickname but only smiled and continued to pet the large creature in front of him. Ahsoka carefully climbed onto the Tach's back and sat down. Rex was so busy petting the animal that he didn't notice. The Tach didn't seem to mind as it focused more on this strange human rubbing its head. Ahsoka got comfortable on the creature then stared down at Rex.
"Rex!" she called.
He looked up, a wide grind spreading across his face.
"Come on up here!" she shouted.
Rex patted the Tach one last time before using the fur to crawl onto its back. He sat down behind Ahsoka and held on for dear life.
"Are you sure this is safe?" he asked with a smirk.
"We'll just have to find out," Ahsoka replied.
She gave a soft kick into the Tach's side and it began to walk forward. It followed its nose, sniffing every couple steps. The Tach was looking for food. It was looking for the sweet fruits that lay among the many plants in the forest.
"Now what?" Rex asked.
"Now we wait" Ahsoka responded, clenching the fur in her hand.
The Tach searched far and wide looking for fruit to please the hunger it burdened. It walked for a while before settling on a large bush full of Moja fruit. Then growled in satisfaction before beginning to pluck the bush. Ahsoka slid down the Tach's back landing in the grass near the bush. Rex came down as well, only not as gracefully. He slid down the fur yelling the whole way. Then fell on his side in a meadow of Saava flowers. Ahsoka laughed as Rex groaned, sitting up, and rubbing his head.
"You okay?" she asked giggling.
"Yeah, fine" Rex replied standing up slowly. "I hope we didn't ride that thing all this was just to pick flowers"
"No Rex we rode it to find food" Ahsoka said "matter of factly", "The bush over there has edible fruits called Moja fruit. We can have that for breakfast"
"Sounds like you've got a plan" Rex chuckled.
"Don't I always?" Ahsoka pointed up shrugging.
They both walked up to the bush and began to gather as much fruit as they could hold. Rex filled his shirt with Moja fruits and sat down on a log. He ate almost all of them savoring the sweet juice inside. Ahsoka filled her arms with them and sat next to Rex. She ate at a more slower pace, only two of the fruits filling her stomach.
"You know you still haven't taught me how to use a blaster" she recalled taking a bite out of her Moja fruit.
"Oh yeah" Rex replied, "Forgot about that"
"When are you going to teach me?" Ahsoka asked a hopeful look flashing across her face.
"How about right now?" Rex suggested with a smile.
