《After Dark》Chapter 24

Eliza ran to William so that they could jump into the car. William was rushing her into the car, but gripped onto the door to look back across the street. She spotted Bessie making her way into Herbert's car.
"We've got to go." William reminded Eliza, and she made her way into the front seat next to Connor. William followed behind. Bunny sat in the backseat. They drove swiftly from the scene, leaving a cloud of smoke behind them.
William attempting wrapping an arm around Eliza, but she shrugged him off. "I'm not sure if I'm ready for that."
"Can we stop chatting about relationships and start talking about where the hell we're running to?" Bunny shouted from the backseat.
"Well, we got busted in Connecticut so we know North isn't the place to go." Connor said as he steered the car. "That's why I figured we go South."
"And leave behind Jack? He's still in jail up here." William pointed out. He looked to Eliza, who he believed didn't know the news. "Jack got locked up."
"That's horrible." Eliza answered, concealing that she read it in the paper with Bessie. "Hopefully you can get him out soon."
"That's highly unlikely, but I hope we can." Connor answered Eliza. He took a glimpse at Eliza as he drove quickly on the road. "Glad to have you back, Eliza. Even if it isn't exactly the way it used to be."
That comment caused William to tense. The way it used to be. That's what he desperately desired, but he knew Eliza was far too strong to be so easily led. Far too stubborn too.
After hours having gone by, both William and Bunny fell asleep. Connor could hardly keep his eyes open. Eliza didn't dare sleep. She still didn't feel entirely safe being in the car with William and his men. She knew that someone was always coming after their head and an altercation could happen at any moment.

So she quietly sang to herself to keep awake. "Pack up all my cares and woe, here I go, winging low... bye, bye, blackbird."
"That's that George Olsen tune, right?" Connor asked once he heard her softly sing it. "Where somebody waits for me, Sugar's sweet, so is she... bye, bye, blackbird!"
"Yes!" Eliza laughed. "Fran Frey does a wonderful refrain on it."
"Gotta love it." Connor smiled. Then there was a silence for a moment. "Listen, Eliza. I know you don't want to be caught up in our stuff. If I'm being honest, I don't even want to be in this anymore. But I want to thank you for being easy on my bud, Will."
"Thank you." Eliza said genuinely.
"You don't have to give him your knickers or anything..." Connor joked and Eliza laughed. "But just you being so kind to him goes a long way. Ever since you two, well, you know. He hasn't been doing so well."
"What do you mean?" Eliza asked.
"Well, I can't explain it all in a lady's presence. But let's just say he picked up some habits he isn't too proud of." Connor explained. "So you showing him you don't hate him or nothing I think is helping a lot."
Eliza looked to William who still slept deeply next to her. Then she looked back to Connor. "Thanks. It means a lot."
The dim headlights of the car shined on a sign. When Eliza read the town, she could hardly believe her eyes. "Are we in Long Island?"
"Yup. That's where our folks are from." Connor answered. He turned onto a dirt road that had a lot of shrubbery. Eliza began to get nervous, no one was around and it was still dark out.

"Say, where are we headed to?" Eliza asked as they drove in the narrow road that was surrounded by trees.
"You'll see." Connor told her. After a long while of driving on that road, it opened up. There were large fields as far as the eye could see. And the grass visible in the car light seemed manicured and well put together. Eliza tried to spot houses outside her window, but it was too dark and that they were hadn't yet gotten streetlights. But it seemed like the houses were far back on each property.
They turned onto one of the roads that led onto a property. That swift turn woke William up. He was still drowsy from his long sleep. Eliza looked at his face, his blue eyes were hooded. She hated how sexy and adorable he looked at the same time.
That calm, half awake temperament was short lived. "Fuck." William said under his breath. "Why are we here?"
"Where are we?" Eliza quickly looked to Connor, her anxieties rising.
"It's for our own good, William." Connor answered. "Enough time has passed. You already proved yourself. Now it's time."
"I said I'd never come back here!" William shouted at Connor. "And I meant it!"
"It seems like you have no choice." Connor told William. Eliza noticed they got closer to a building. It was large and long. And as they got closer, she realized the building was a house. Not just a house, but a mansion. As the car turned into the horseshoe driver way, they were close enough to see the grand doorway that was framed by large pillars.
"Whose house is this?" Eliza said as she tried to lean over William and looked through the window. Bunny, who was now awake, chuckled in the back.
"I thought if she came you wouldn't bring us here." William told Connor. He sat in the car for a moment, as if him not moving would mean he wouldn't have to go inside.
"Go ahead. Go inside." Connor insisted. William opened the car door and stepped out.
Eliza began following behind, but William put his hand up. "You stay back here. We don't know how this is gonna go."
After William shut the car door, he walked up the large front steps to the house. He stood in front of the door he was far too familiar with, then after an exhale he gripped the metal handle to the doorbell. After a pull, the many bells of the house began to ding.
After waiting a long while, the Butler opened the door. He was a man of medium build and African descent. The salt and pepper color of his hair was covered by the nightcap he wore.
"Mr. McGill." He said in surprise.

The First Primordial [DROPPED]
[Story dropped until further notice, I don't currently plan on restarting the story but will leave it as a possible option] During the Creation and before the inception of the Realms, there were 3 beings. Known as Primordials, beings even the God's knew little about that were rumoured to be myths or legends. Follow one of such beings that, given the unflattering name Arthur and the species of Demon, must figure out his place within the realms and find his fellow Primordials. Spending the beginning of creation within what will be called The White Realm then spending an unknown amount of time screwing around in the Demon Realm. Once he finally begins his story, he will be acquainted with a world full of grand vistas, religious nuts and floating rocks which will remove whatever little common sense he had remaining. Of course, there will be no shortage of trouble that will complicate things that (due to a poor ability in making good first impressions) will cause more than a few worlds changing events. These events include the destruction of a church and minor religion, including the death of that religion's God, messing with the reincarnated people and even introducing his own reincarnators along with the slight involvement of a war between the Demon Realm and the Creation Realm. Slow burn story; expect the story to be long with plot being introduced as it goes along. The story will include a main character with an actual mind and personality that will create, learn, and even destroy as the story progresses with an emphasis on what experiencing the other side of most novels, a perspective on that one whimsical god that brings the protagonist from one world to another that is only ever mentioned in the starting chapter. [PS- This will be my first time writing, so advice, tips and critiques will be appreciated. The release schedule is a bit iffy and unreliable but will mostly be every Sunday]
