My rough fingers stroked with care,
Her warm brown and delicate hair;
As we lay under the midnight sky,
Breathing in the fragrant air,
Her eyes like always slowly traced,
Those teeny tiny twinkly stars;
Mesmerized by their glittery magic,
Completely lost inside their art,
But I wanted not even to know,
How bewitching those stars were;
For my gaze was solely fixed,
Where it belonged ; just on her,
"Look at the sky", she softly said,
Sensing on her my wild eyes;
I firmly shook my head in no,
Making her look at me with a smile,
She tilted her head as if wanting to ask,
Isn't staring at me a tiresome task?
Oh how to her this truth I could tell;
Drinking in her beauty was my escape from hell,
The wind around us lightly twirled,
As I was pulled into a trance;
Of how ethereal this girl looked,
Lying here peacefully , in my arms,
Her breathing a mere soft whisper,
Her heart beat achingly calm,
As she slowly leaned into me;
Resting her head on my palm,
I breathed in her soothing scent,
As my sanity questioned ; why?
Did this universe choose me for her,
When all I did was make her cry,
She was like a heavenly rain,
An anodyne for all my pain,
But I for her , was a violent storm;
The death note , to her life song,
She was more of a crimson rose,
Created uniquely to be adored,
And I , was just a hazel thorn;
Labelled by nature as something forlorn,
She was like a deafening universe,
And I, no more than a fading star,
How could I brighten up her world?
When I , forever, had lost my spark,
Her heart was like a silent symphony,
A perfectly imperfect chaotic harmony;
How could fate write her as mine?

When I was just a broken rhyme,
I would've continued this list so long,
Had she not broken into my thoughts;
Snuggling into the hollow of my neck,
She softly exhaled ; indicating she had slept,
My heartbeat sped ; my eyes dropped,
Towards her face ; innocent like a swan,
How could she entrust herself to me?
Like I was the knight and not the beast,
I leaned down and gently brushed,
My dusty lips on the side of her head,
I was nature's worst choice for her;
While she was absolutely beyond the best,
She had seen me in with all my scars,
All my wounds and all my flaws,
She had known me for the monster I was;
And yet she had not even once backed off,
I had hurt her countless times,
Rejecting her love ; leaving her crying,
But deep down I was always scared,
How could I dare to call her mine?
But now I didn't have anything to dread,
As my weakness , was now my strength;
For I had found a reason to live,
Amidst this world that wanted me dead,
Gently I placed her hand on my chest,
My heart glad that she had slept,
For I could never say ; when she was awake,
That she was the risk I would always take.

Waking Up
The story of Larin the Builder in the aftermath of Awakening This short story is the epilogue of Awakening, the first book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. This epilogue is a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers between books without being necessary to the main storyline.Waking Up follows the story of Larin, who is alive but unconscious after her ordeal in the Nine Hells. She awakens in A'lara City a few days later and recuperates under the steadfast care of her repentant friend Jorn.As she reacclimates to her waking state, Larin struggles with her gruesome memories of the Hells and her decision to conceal them from Jorn. This story answers the question, Is Larin all right? with a resounding yes, and some storms on the horizon.It also raises the question, What happened to her down there? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Falling Down, about Larin's ordeal in the Nine Hells. Praise for Waking Up and Falling Down: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great!The difference between Waking Up and Falling Down is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing.The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact.And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well.-- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
