PART I

"Can I use your private jet tomorrow, Dad?" Sara Vega inquired of her father, Lucas Vega, who lavished her with gifts. He had always shown her the utmost love and care, attending to all of her needs. Being a single father was challenging, but he made sure he was there for her every step of the way.

She was, after all, his princess.

It was because of the way he raised her that she never learned the meaning of the word - no. Everything in her life was within her grasp; all she needed was a little bit of money, her beauty, and her surname.

"Of course, love, but where would you want to go?" Sara grinned internally to herself, knowing it was a yes because no one, especially her father, ever said no to her.

Taking off her Gucci eyeglasses, she sat down next to her father on the couch, "fashion week." Why did the two words suffice as an explanation?

That's because she was Sara Vega, the supermodel and heir to a multibillionaire's throne. Sara Vega had very little missing in her life, and modelling companies never turned her down because of the prominent surname linked with her name, but in all honesty, she was brilliant at her work. She knew how to stroll gracefully and confidently down the ramp.

"If you need money, you can always use my credit card, okay?" Mr Vega informed his daughter while handing her his black credit card.

He was aware that his daughter was spoiled, and from what he had observed, she did not have the finest personality, but she was, after all, his only child.

The thought alone gave him a sour feeling, but he adored his daughter, which brought a smile to his face, but the grin vanished just as quickly as it arose as his gaze was drawn to Sierra Vega.

His disowned daughter, with whom he never wanted to be identified, but what irritated him the most was her face; after all, she was Sara's twin.

Mr. Vega's smile was quickly replaced by a wicked grin. He rose from his seat and made large strides towards his other daughter, or, as he put it, his misfortune.

Sierra felt a burn on her cheeks seconds later, so she lowered her eyes and glanced at her father's black leather shoes "What are you doing here, being worthless once more? I've told you not to bother me." Mr. Vega yelled as he slapped Sierra across the face again.

Sierra knew better than to argue; her years on the planet had taught her how to deal with circumstances like these. She kept her eyes down and replied in a small frightened voice "your food is ready fathe- sir." Sierra waited for a response but instead, she saw her father heading to the dining room where his dinner was already set out.

This was life to Sierra, an abusive rich father, and a discouraging twin sister.

She read that twin were meant to feel attached to each other, but Sara never expressed concern for Sierra or attempted to communicate with her.

Sara seemed to despise her to the point where even the mere presence of Sierra bothered her. Perhaps Sara blamed Sierra for their mother's death as well.

Mr. Vega had two daughters, Sara and Sierra, who were both identical copies of each other, but the world only knew who Sara was since Sierra was kept concealed from the public sight. She was always the filthy little secret that no one knew about.

Sierra's world was contained behind the four walls of her house; unlike her sister, she had never left the mansion.

Why?

Because Sierra's father, Mr. Vega, blamed Sierra for his wife's death. He was abusive to one of his daughters while being nice to the other.

The twins' mother died after their delivery because she was unable to bear the anguish of giving birth to a second child.

Sierra Vega, the second child, was the younger one.

Sierra, on the other hand, never blamed her father.

hope.

Sierra was always hopeful; maybe if she made her father proud of her one day, he would embrace her as well?

Sierra was home-schooled while Sara was able to attend a private school.

Sierra sat at home doing her and Sara's schoolwork on Friday evenings when Sara went out to parties.

Friends, Sara had enough, although Sierra had never heard of it.

Only a few people knew about the twins, and those who did were paid enough money to stay quiet.

No one in the outside world was supposed to be aware of the situation.

Sierra had never experienced love, but her twin Sara was not only adored but also spoilt rotten.

Sierra envied her sister on occasion, but could she blame Sara?

She was the cause of her own death; it was as if her birth had been a tragedy, a tragic one.

Sierra would go to bed at night and pray for a better day with no beatings the next day, but Sara would go to bed and pray for a new automobile the next day.

They had the same face, lived in the same house, and had the same parents, yet they were not the same.

Sierra was grateful; at the very least, her sister did not mistreat her.

Ignorance wasn't bliss it was torture but it was better than the numerous scars on her body.

Finally when the day came to an end and the dishes were done Sierra headed to the basement, her room.

It was her favourite place in the house except for the kitchen.

She sat on the mattress on the floor that served as her bed and finally drew her plate into her lap.

She was hungry.

Her eyes gleamed with desire as she looked down at the apple and sandwich; since it was Friday, she had a sandwich for supper rather than bread and soup.

Sierra's smile was far too broad; she regarded the sandwich as a reward for herself. After a long day at work, she enjoyed having her lunch alone, all by herself, after all alone was all she had ever known.

When she was small, he felt lonely but then she fell in love with the darkness.

It was not as though Sierra was asked to clean the whole house, all she was asked to do was a cook for herself, her father, and her sister. The rest of the day she studied, through an online college course.

Mr. Vega was good enough to allow Sierra to continue her studies and she was grateful for it. Sierra went towards her closet which hardly had ten sets of clothes and she reached out behind the pile of clothes and finally got what she was looking for, the book.

She ran her hand on the cover as if trying to engrave the feel of its texture.

She opened it up and on the first page was a picture of a beautiful woman, her mother.

Mrs. Lana Vega was a beautiful woman with her long waist-length brown hair and teal colored eyes which Sierra had inherited.

The twins shared all the physical features except their eyes.

While Sierra had sparkling teal eyes, Sara has hazel brown ones.

But no one knew since Sierra was compelled to wear contacts from an early age because the world only saw Sara, and if anybody saw Sierra with her own teal eyes, they'd know. Sierra held her mother's photo in her hands and gazed at it, believing that if her mother had been alive, she would have shown her the love she saw between Sara and her father. After a few moments, Sierra put the picture of her mother back and turned the pages.

With time Sierra had come to know a lot of things that her mom loved doing and she took a liking towards them as well.

One of them was stargazing; as she flipped through the pages, she came to a page with precise handwritten information on a certain star that was only seen every seven years.

Sierra eventually calculated the time in her head and estimated that there were just 10 minutes till the star would be visible. Sierra sprang up and went back to her wardrobe, where she discovered the advanced pair of binoculars that had also belonged to her mother.

Sierra came upon them while cleaning the storeroom one day.

Sierra hurried to the little window in her room, her excitement palpable; this was the second time she would see this specific star; she originally saw it when she was fifteen, and now, years later, she was finally twenty-two.

Sierra began her hunt for the lovely star that was shortly to appear, holding her sandwich in one hand and the binoculars in the other.

After nearly seven minutes, a lovely star with a reddish hue appeared; Sierra gazed at the star for quite some time until her sandwich was completed.

She put the binoculars down and stretched to take her dairy which was kept on the mattress. The moment Sierra stretched a violent pain went through her body, she realized she had forgotten about the new burn marks from the cigarette covering her stomach.

Slowly she sat up went to her bed and wrote down the date and time below the stars handwritten information she had done by herself.

She then hid the binoculars and the book in her closet, making sure they were not visible.

Sierra's room was never visited by anyone, but she never took a chance.

Better to be cautious than sorry.

A few moments later Sierra heard her dad's voice calling her, and fear immediately took over her. She ran down to her father who had an angry aura around him, Sierra started shaking with fear."y-yes sir?" Sierra questioned when she felt a hand grip her forearm tightly making her flinch. Her father took hold of the same place as last time.

Sierra bit her lips tightly to stop herself from whimpering, she was sure by now her lips were bleeding.

"Where is my wine?" Mr. Vega questioned with anger laced in his voice. Sierra's eyes widened with fear, she forgot to tell the house in charge to refill the stock.

"It's finished si-sir, I forgot to ask for a refill" she answered in a very small voice.

"You have a terrible memory, don't you?" Sierra felt her hair being grabbed, and she was immediately flung to the ground. "Bloody bitch, you can't do anything right, and my lovely wife died for useless crap like you! It would have been preferable if you had died instead."

A second later Sierra felt a sharp pain in her stomach because of the kick she just received.

"Daddy! What's wrong?" Sara's voice echoed from the other end of the house and then she came into view "nothing sweetheart, this bitch could not get anything done right." Mr. Vega answered and went back to his room while Sara followed.

Tears fell from Sierra's eyes freely as she slowly got up ignoring the pain in her body. As she headed to her room she felt the gaze of the servants around her who held pity for her in their own eyes.

The moment she closed the door her sobbing became loud.

Was she that big of a disgrace?

Would her mother really not love her if she would have been alive?

Was she really that useless?

Did she really not deserve to live?

questions were eating her up.

Finally, Sierra got up and went to the washroom, took of her contact lenses, cleaned her face while putting the contact lenses in the holder she then headed back to bed waiting for the happy dreams to come, except they never came.
