for rue and lulu

Lulu looked so cool at school that nobody would've ever guessed what the hell she had to go through during the weekend. They didn't know she could've died because of the Fentanyl, they didn't know about the painful descent she managed to survive on her own, they didn't know that her mother stole all the money she had left to flee with a creepy dude.

And I would've never fucking guessed if Fezco didn't text me about it.

Lulu was laying down on her bed after another boring day at school, scrolling through her instagram feed, when she heard a knock on her bedroom door.

"What's going on, Zahia?" Lulu asked, "Yo, it's your turn to clean the dishes, don't try to buy me with money, I don't wanna do it."

Lulu frowned when she didn't hear her sister grunt or snap back at her and rolled over on her bed to find herself in front of Rue.

"Hi..." Rue said anxiously.

"Hey."

Rue was playing nervously with her hands, "Hm... how are you?"

"What do you want?" Lulu snapped back.

Rue let out a sigh, "Look... Lulu, I... I fucking messed up. I know. You think I don't hate myself for ignoring you for so long?"

"I don't know, I guess it was easy to replace me."

"Are you serious right now?" Rue asked, "I... I didn't replace you!"

"Sure about that? 'Cause I used to be the one you'd spend all your time with."

"Did you forget that you ignored me too?" Rue asked, "I don't even know how many times I tried to call, you never called me back."

"Don't try and make me the bad guy here, I was pissed."

"I..I know. And you have the right to be. I know you fucking hate me—"

Lulu interrupted her, "I don't. No matter how hard I try, I can't. I love you too much."

The two girls exchanged a long look, Rue unable to say a word as she didn't want to believe Lulu didn't hate her after everything she had done.

Lulu sat up on her bed, "I was just so sad... I felt like I had lost a piece of me and... I couldn't figure out how it had happened. Like... if I did something bad, I don't know, just... tell me."

Rue opened her eyes wide, "What?! No! You didn't do anything! I'm the bitch here, not you."

Lulu chuckled, "Okay, okay..."

"And... you didn't lose me," Rue added, "I don't know, I just... this girl, I... I never felt anything like this before."

"Like... love at first sight type of shit?"

"Wow, wow, wow," Rue jumped up, "Calm down, don't start talking about love."

Lulu raised an eyebrow, "You're lying, you love her. You can tell me, you know."

"You never admitted you had feelings for Fezco, uh," Rue smirked, "So..."

"Shut up?! I... uh, what?"

Rue started wiggling her eyebrows, "Stop trying to hide this from me, come on bitch."

"It's not the same thing!" Lulu spluttered, trying to cover her rosy cheeks by lighting a cigarette.

"Why?"

Lulu shrugged her shoulders, "I-I don't know, it's Fez! Like, he's not into high school chicks."

"Girl, you serious? You're not an high school chick?!"

"Uh... then, what am I exactly?"

"First of all, you're eighteen so you're legal," Rue said.

I was in rehab when Lulu turned eighteen. But, instead of, like, throwing a party with tons of people, she came to visit and we spent the whole day together. I mean, I'm fucking ungrateful 'cause I don't know a single other person who'd do that for a friend.

"You're freaking smart and cool, which is hot," Rue added, "Oh, and wait, you're a fucking badass actress, so, like... Yeah, you're no high school chick."

"Shut up, quit the flirting now, Rue," Lulu laughed, "You already know I love you."

"So, like... we good?"

Lulu bit her lip but she was quick to open her arms and Rue was even quicker to jump onto her as they crashed on the bed in a fit of loud giggles.

The two girls cuddled for a very long time, listening to some music and smoking cigarettes as Lulu listened to Rue talk about Jules and about everything that happened the past couple of weeks.

"By the way, I'm sorry for bringing you in my shit at Fez's last weekend..."

Lulu sighed, "Let's not talk about it, it's all good. I mean, we both survived right?"

"No, this is serious, Lulu," Rue said, "Like... really, I'm sorry, I wasn't even there when you came off that shit."

"Look, I was with Fez, I was safe," Lulu replied, "We couldn't help each other anyways."

Rue nodded, "Yeah... so, like, when are you making out with him, uh?"

Lulu rolled her eyes, "You ain't giving up, mh?"

"Oh, come on! The sexual tension between you two is fucking huge, I don't get how you guys didn't fuck yet."

"Girl, my thoughts!" Zahia said as she was walking by, "Like, really, just tell him you like him, it's getting so boring!"

"Zahia, my baby!" Rue chanted as the young sister walked in and jumped on the bed, "See! She agrees with me!"

Lulu groaned in annoyance, "Get off my back you two! It's impossible to know if Fezco's into me or something like that."

Zahia and Rue shared a knowing look and started laughing as Lulu got off the bed to smoke another cigarette at the window. She noticed her phone kept buzzing on the table.

Lulu looked up as Zahia and Rue who were in a full conversation, "Yo."

"What?" Rue asked.

"Why you have a huge smile on your face?" Zahia said, "Fez sent you nudes or what?"

Rue and Zahia started cackling loudly as Lulu shook her head desperately, "No... you guys remember when I did that indie film like lead role and all that?"

"Yeah... that was like two years ago, right?" Rue replied as Lulu nodded, "Yeah?"

"The trailer is out."
