《Silverwing: Guardian》Chapter 1: Chase

Sirens rang throughout the city, as police vehicles surrounded a large building with a large sign that read, "Over the Horizon Gem." The structure had white tinted windows and a couple of masked goons inside the building with guns in hand. The masked goons wore black, scale-like uniforms, wielding rifles and large bags full of stolen gemstones.
"We have you surrounded! Come out with your hands up!" A police officer wearing white and blue armor shouted through speakers, with a golden "H" engraved on his shoulder.
Rows of police cars blocked the front entrance like a coordinated barricade with police at the ready wielding dark blue blasters and several more were stationed in the back.
In terms of numbers and power, the police were clearly at an advantage, except when an black armored truck came charging from around a corner and rammed straight into the police blockade. Cars were blown right out of the way and the cops had to break formation to avoid getting run over or slammed.
Now with their chance, the masked goons ran out of the gem emporium and hopped onto their getaway ride, firing shots at the police, and drove off.
But right as they were getting away, an armored figure wearing a sleek helmet and riding a blue police motorcycle arrived on the scene. The armor was a dark shade of blue with phosphorescent rings decorated around it, the helmet had silver wing-shaped tips on the sides with a neon blue visor on the front mask.
As one of the police officers got up, a male voice called through his intercom. "I'm here. What’s the plan?"
The officer looked up at the figure. “Chase? Ugh, well, you can start by getting the runaways.”
Without another word, Chase sped off after the armored truck.
And in a few seconds the armored figure was right on their tail, he pulled out a handgun from his holster and aimed it at the truck's tires. He fired two laser shots that popped the back two tires, but the truck kept going somehow. "Flat runners…" he grumbled.
From the truck, one of the goons leaned out the window with his rifle and started firing bullets at Chase, who weaved out of the way and fired back with his gun.
Then, at the top of the truck, came out a mounted mini-gun that was being manned by another goon and started rapid firing a constant and deadly spray of bullets.
Glass and stone exploded with each hundred impact, Chase did his best to dodge and keep up, but the rushing force of bullets just kept coming and even though his motorcycle could handle a few bullets, getting caught by one was followed instantly by a thousand more, devastating Chase’s ride and in a fiery explosion he was flung off into the air, but not without firing one more retaliating shot. With his blaster out, he took aim with his visor target-locking onto one of the truck's front tires and fired.

Accurately hitting the tire, the truck was still moving but not as smoothly, and Chase crumpled on the asphalt. Despite the impact from the bullets drilling him into the road, Chase got up. His body was mostly scratched and dirtied. Unlike the bike, his armor was heavily strengthened by advanced technology and Aurainium Diamond, a special material created in the world of Coresia to be the strongest in terms of defense. His mask gave him an enhanced vision, helping him keep track of the moving truck, and his own body's condition.

As he was getting back up, a police car rolled up to him with the dark-tinted window coming down. It was the police officer from before, and Chase knew him as Calvin. “Need a ride?” Calvin said.
Chase noticed another officer in the other seat holding a rifle out the window.
“They have a mini-gun now. Watch out for it.” Chase warned and jumped on top of the car.
“They got a mini-gun?!.”
The police car sped off, the wind blowing in Chase’s face but he was laser-focused on the truck, weary of the gunner that was staring right at them. It was going to fire and he needed to be ready. The other police officer in the car was firing at the truck, some of the lasers almost hitting the mini-gun but blocked by some invisible barrier that glimmered with a pink light.
“They have shields too?” Chase grumbled and then shouted down. “Keep firing! The shield shouldn’t be able to handle many more blaster shots!”
However, the mini-gun must’ve finished cooling off, because the next barrage of bullets came charging right at them.
“Steady!” Calvin cried out as he swerved the vehicle, desperately trying to avoid the shots.
“Get closer! I need a clear shot!” Chase shouted, struggling to hang onto the car and aim with his gun.
“It’s kind of hard to do that when you have a mini-gun coming straight for your face!” Calvin shouted back.
The police officer firing with his rifle was also struggling in the car, lasers were fired in a sporadic fashion, but one lucky shot did manage to hit the pink barrier as it shimmered again. Chase steadied his arm as best he could, his visor highlighting the invisible shield. He fired his gun right as the car swerved again, but the shot hit the barrier and with a final pink shimmer it shattered with a satisfying spark.
However, bullets caught onto the police car and instantly broke through its defenses as glass shattered, tires ripped, and the car’s left door was torn open with the police officer falling out of the car.
“Mike!” Calvin shouted.
Chase looked back with pained eyes to see the officer roll out onto the ground and watched the truck getting away as the car slowed, uncertainty crept into his mind.
Luckily, the mini-gun had stopped firing to cool down, but it would only be a few moments before it was firing again, and Chase knew well enough to not let this opportunity slide.
“Mike will be fine. Now’s our chance!” Chase said.
“What’s the plan then?” Calvin said.
“Slingshot.” Chase said, getting into position.
Calvin smiled and pressed on the gas pedal and the police car sped up after the truck, making decent distance and catching up to the truck, but it wouldn’t be enough and the car was quickly running out of steam, especially with the rising smoke. Even so, it would be enough for Chase.
Chase steadied himself on the car, his armor sparkling and radiating with blue electricity running through his rings. Chase locked his sights on the mini-gun and shouted “Now!”. The car made a sharp turn, swerving hard, and gave Chase enough momentum to leap from the car. The blue electricity burst from his feet, boosting him further into the air and closer to the truck.

Then, in a flash of silver, a black cable shot out of his arm and the silver point pierced through the mini-gun with a satisfying whip. Blue electricity sparked through the black cable, leading up to the end of the point and stunning the machine along with the gunner.
Chase landed on the truck with a heavy thud, and with the gunner down and the mini-gun disabled he retracted his cable back into his arm and jumped through the opening of the truck where the mini-gun had come out of. The inside of the truck was dimly lit from the sunlight coming through the opening, but Chase could easily see in the dark with his helmet. Several goons were there and aimed their guns at him, but he just stood up and glared at them. He raised his hand up to grab a handle on the ceiling and closed the opening, shutting out the sunlight and plunging the truck in darkness, with his ominous blue rings being the only thing visible in the dark.
[Battery: 60%]
From an outside view, the truck swerved out of control as blue electricity and gunfire sparks could be seen flashing through the windows, several loud thuds could be heard from the inside, and eventually the truck fell over and crashed into a metal pole with smoke rising from it. Soon after, the back of the truck slammed open as three goons were flung out into the streets. From the dark truck, Chase’s blue rings were still glowing brightly as he stepped out of the truck carrying two more goons in his hands and dropped them on the street, their hands handcuffed together with silver cuffs connected with a chain of black energy.
Some of the goons were crawling on the ground with groans but then handcuffs shot right onto their hands as they automatically clasped together and connected to each other with a strong chain of electricity.
"Members of the Black Dragon, you’re under arrest." Chase said, about to grab the goons.
[Battery: 58%]
Chase scanned the area for any more accomplices before Calvin’s voice came through his intercom. “Chase! Did you get the truck? I heard a crash.”
“Yes, I got them. Five are handcuffed and two others are unconscious.”
“Then that makes seven.”
“Where are you?”
“I went back for Mike and I’m carrying him for medical support. Backup should be on the way, though, so don’t worry.”
“I’m not worried.”
“Heh, of course you’re not.”
“How many were there?”
“Twelve.”
“How many did you get?”
“I’m seeing four gathered up back with the others.”
“Then that leaves—” Chase was cut off right as his mask beeped in warning with an exclamation point, but it was too late. Right as he registered what was happening, he felt a huge force suddenly hit him across the road and slam him into a nearby building.
[Battery: 57%]
Chase looked up to see a massive brute wearing a black dragon-shaped mask similar to what the goons wore, with huge brass knuckles that seemed to have modified shotguns attached to them.
"Chase? Chase! What's going on?" Calvin said through the intercom.
"I'm gonna need to get back to you." Chase said gruffly as he hung up on Calvin and got back up.
"You harm my comrades, and now I vill crush you," the brute threw a punch in the air which fired a shotgun blast at Chase. He jumped out of the way and threw a pair of handcuffs at him, but the brute simply caught the handcuffs and crushed them with his hands. The brute charged Chase again, throwing punches and heavy shots, he tried to evade them but it only took one hit to send Chase crashing back into the ground with a violent blast.
[Battery: 48%]
Chase tried to get back up but the brute stomped a foot right on his back with a knuckle aimed right at his head. "Zis is Horizon's so-called Guardian? Vell, the boss is going to be very happy with me---" before he could finish, Chase took out his handgun and fired a heavy laser blast into the brute's chest - knocking him over with thud and releasing Chase from the ground.
[Battery: 45%]
Then, with another burst of speed, Chase got out of his crater and a few feet away from the brute, putting his gun away, and setting his hands on the hilt of his sword that sat sheathed at his left side. "Stay down."
[Battery: 40%]
"Never!" The brute got back up and raised his hands up in a boxing stance.
Then, Chase's armor glowed as blue electricity started generating out of his phosphorescent rings, all of which were traveling to his arm. He gripped his sword and pulled it out of the sheath with an aura of lightning that crackled all around him, the sword had a high-tech design and radiated with power. With a twist, Chase sliced in the air with his fully-charged sword, sending a wave of energy slamming into the brute and launching him into the truck with a resonating crash.
[Battery: 20%]
Chase sheathed his sword as the lightning around him sizzled away, and just in time, police cars rolled up to the scene.
"Chase!" Calvin came running up to him. "You alright man?"
"I'm fine. Make sure to transport these guys," Chase heaved, and gestured to the eight goons that were sprawled out on the ground either in cuffs or passed out.
"Right, good work Chase," Calvin said before turning to the rest of the task force. "Alright, everyone let's round them all up!"
