《Knights of Auran》The Departure Part 2

With the power still down from the EMP blast and everyone has evacuated the stadium, Reynold’s men were scouting the area accessing Kevin’s damage. Using a flashlight, one chose to go downstairs to explore the other rooms. He came upon the locker room Kevin and Johnny were in and discovered the damage Kevin left. He then looked around the ceiling and spotted a surveillance camera that was pointed at the direction the damage occurred. He then realized there could be footage they may need. He makes his way back to the upstairs to the others informing him of his discovery.
"We need to check the surveillance files before the rewind protocol starts, Reynolds would want to see what’s on it." He requested.
The others agreed, once they found the security room where the surveillance files would be held, they broke in and began searching the room. With the help of their flashlight, they found a rectangular shaped black box connected to a giant screen. They disconnected the black box and took it with them as they returned to the Advant guard headquarters.
As the sun set, the effects of the EMP began to wane. Section by section, the city’s electricity was restored and the people had power in their houses once more. At the advent headquarters, they continued to monitor the city using their backup generators. It wasn’t long till the power in their section was restored and they began to initiate the rewind protocol. Those trained in coding began hacking into the network of every social media platform, every web browser and page on all devices. Anything that had footage or recording of Kevin using his reiki powers at the stadium were being deleted leaving no trace of it on the internet. As evening approached, whatever show or news station anyone was watching, there would be occasional flickers on their screen that occurred in patterns. The flickers on the screen were rhythmic even hypnotic those who looked at the screen became in tranced by the constant rhythmic flicks on the screen. In between the flicks a message popped up that would read “Kevin Riley is human” For anyone listening to music there would be the sound of static also in a rhythmic pattern which became hypnotic and in between the static a voice spoke stating that Kevin is human.
Agent Reynolds and Ben were heading to the hospital. When Reynolds saw the streetlights come on, he then heard the radio in his car come on. He quickly shuts it off.
“We can’t have that now.” he stated. He looked over to Ben who was worried, thinking about his son and what the Advant Guard was going to do.
"You did shut off all your devices right?" Reynolds reminded him sternly.
“Of course I did, but I don’t understand why? What is the rewind protocol?” He asked.
Reynolds paused for a moment as he thinks back to the occasions in the past where he had to use this protocol in other areas of the nation. He lets out a sigh.
Since that incident with Agent Parker, we came up with a way to prevent something like that from happening again. The rewind protocol is when we erase an Seirei Jin incident that we didn’t want to be exposed. Through hypnosis and powers of suggestion, we hack into phone and radio towers, networks and the internet itself removing all evidence of what happened and we-
"You replace it with false memories." Ben interrupted finishing Reynolds sentence.
Reynolds softly nods agreeing with what he said.
"As long as you don’t hear or see it, your safe." Reynolds added.

"How long will this last?" Ben required.
"It should only take a couple of hours, tops. This is a small community, so this won’t take long." Reynolds replied.
"What about my son? Ben asked What will they do to him?"
"For now, nothing, I just hope it stays that way." Reynolds answered.
They arrived to the only hospital in the area. Ben was about to come out of the car till Agent Reynolds pulled him back in. Unsure as to why, he watched as Reynolds takes out two pairs of ear bud cases and sunglasses.
"Put these on, and don’t take them off until I tell you." Reynolds warned him as he started putting on his sunglasses and pair of ear buds in his ears.
Ben did the same and the two came out the car and into the hospital. Walking into the hospital, Ben watched as the staff members, security and even patients were all staring blankly at tv screens and their cell phones as they were in tranced by the subliminal message and hypnotic rhythm of the static that kept flicker on their screens.
"My God." Ben whispered to himself marveled at what he was seeing as no one noticed they arrived.
As they faces were focused on the screens in front of them. Reynolds taps Ben on the shoulder to get his attention. Ben looked over to Reynolds who motioned him to follow him as they were heading to the elevator. Reynolds presses the button to go up and it wasn’t long till the doors opened and they went in.
Ben watched as Reynolds took off his sunglasses and ear buds, and he did the same.
"Where we’re going, we won’t be affected by the protocol." Reynolds stated as he took out a small enclosure key with three bits at the end.
Reynolds places his hand on the panel that had all the numbers to the floor of the hospital. The panel beeps and the numbers turned over making the panel blank as it activates a hand scanner. The scanner ran a light from the tip of Reynolds hand to the palm like a paper being scanned from a printer. Once it finished, it identified that it was Agent Reynolds. The numbers flipped back in their placed and a small compartment door opened up to reveal a keyhole with three bits shaped like the enclosure key that Reynolds was holding. He inserts the key turning it clockwise and presses buttons “12” and “1”. Once he pulled out the key, the small compartment door closed and the elevator ascended to its next destination. Ben watched as the numbers appeared on the screen above the panel telling them what floors they were passing as the elevator continue to rise. Once they past twelve the number changed to 13 which puzzled Ben. He looked at the panel of buttons for each floor and saw that there was no thirteenth floor. The elevator then comes to a stop.
"So, there really is a thirteenth floor, I always it was bad luck to have one." Said Ben surprised suddenly.
“If you can convince enough people how real a superstition can be then it’ll become real." Reynolds replied. The elevator doors opened up revealing a technological hospital ward that looked more like a prison ward. Each Room was guarded by a soldier whether they were sitting or standing behind the thick metallic doors. In the center of the room was the nurse’s station where, doctors and their nurses were studying the vitals of their patients via their computer monitors. Ben looked at several other screens and saw seirei jins being watch through a security camera in their room. Some were asleep others were awake pacing back and forth and still others sitting in a corner with their heads down in despair. Ben watched with hundreds of questions in his mind but wasn’t sure where to start. Reynolds noticed and decided to break the silence as they stepped out of the elevator.

“Seirei jin and half breeds can get sick or injured too." Reynolds replied. "This is where we hold them, away from public eyes."
Reynolds and Ben approached the nurses station, where a secretary was happily doing her job and processing data on the computer till she saw Reynolds and Ben approach. She stopped what she was doing and addressed them with a smile.
"Good evening Agent." She stated cheerfully. "How may I help you?"
As a friendly gesture Reynolds takes of his hat holding it to his chest and nods at the secretary.
"Excuse me miss, I need to speak to the on call physician please."
"Of course sir." She replied.
She picks up her phone and dials a few numbers to activate the intercom overhead.
"Dr. Geyser to the front desk please, Dr. Geyser to the front desk." She softly announced.
In about a minute, one of the doors from a patient’s room opened and Dr. Geyser steps out walking over to the nurses station.
“Who paged for me?" The doctor asked.
He then paused as he saw Agent Reynolds and Ben at the nurses station. He recognized them both especially Ben as he was Kevin’s physician.
"Ben, what are you doing here? You don’t have clearance." Dr. Geyser asked.
"Relax Doc, he’s with me." Reynolds announced.
"Dr. Geyser, you and I have been monitoring Kevin’s vitals and progress for years, I never saw signs of his reiki powers emerging till today. Did you find anything?" Ben asked.
Dr. Geyser was unsure whether to tell Ben, he glanced over to Reynolds to see if it was ok and Reynolds nodded in response.
"To be honest, he’s fine, just exhausted from what happened. Not a hint of reiki energy from him at all. From what I was told he saved a crowd using his powers but normally when a seirei jin or half breed uses their powers, there would be signs of energy particles around them and for Kevin there was nothing. Only minor scraps and bruises."
Ben looked at Geyser in relief thrilled to hear good news, however, Reynolds was not please to hear that as he was hoping he would get some new information that would help solve the problem to the mysterious markings he saw on Kevin’s body.
"Where is he?" Ben asked. "I want to see him."
"Of course, he’s in room twenty-four, he’s resting now."
Ben walked past the doctor as he walks over to the room. Agent Reynolds follows closely behind. The soldier guarding Kevin’s door allowed them entry; Ben’s eyes weld up with tears has he sees his son asleep unharmed. He walks up to Kevin’s bed and goes down on his knees relieved to him. Reynolds looked at Kevin trying to figure out what happened as to why his powers are not being detected. He then looked at Ben and decided to try and get his answers through him.
"I don’t get, I saw with my own eyes the kid using his reiki powers and yet the doc couldn’t find any traces on him. How is this possible?" Reynolds softly asks so not to wake up Kevin.
"Only one way to find out.: Ben replied as he gets a near by chair and sits next to Kevin.
He rolled back the blanket and flat sheet down to his chest. Ben then digs into his left pocket and takes out a box the size of his hand. Reynolds watches Ben as he opened it to reveal a normal looking tuning fork.
"Is that a tuning fork?!" Reynolds asked surprised and confused to what Ben was about to do.
"I hand crafted this tuning fork to the resonating pitch from a gem stone I found years ago. Ben explained. It’s a pitch beyond human hearing, it helps me to check on something as sound is a type of energy.”
Before Reynolds could ask, Ben tapped the tuning fork against the wooden counter, the tuning fork then begins to vibrate resonating a pitch that neither Ben nor Reynolds could hear. As Ben brings the tuning fork closer to Kevin’s body the resonating vibrations from the fork causes the marking that were on Kevin’s body to appear. Reynolds watches in awe of what Ben was doing.
"What is this?" Reynolds asked.
"It’s a seal I had placed on him when he was little." Ben answered. "It’s to prevent the reiki powers within from coming out and exposing Kevin for being a half breed."
Ben looked up and down at the markings on Kevin’s body to see if there were signs of wear and tear but the seal looked fine and was intact, which puzzled Ben even more.
"I don’t get it." Said Ben. "Everything looks normal. I don’t understand how he was able to use reiki in the first place."
"Why don’t you break the seal and create a stronger one?" Reynolds asked
"I wish I could, the stone I was studying went missing from my office years ago, without it I can’t strengthen the seal." Ben replied.
Ben stops the tuning fork from vibrating and the seal on Kevin disappears. Reynolds wasn’t pleased, with his answer, as now he needs to figure out how to break the seal. Ben calmly puts his tuning fork back in the box and back in his left pocket. He was relieved that his son was ok, and the seal was still there, but the thought occurred to Ben about Agent Reynolds sudden appearance at the Stadium. When they spoke earlier, it seemed as though he was here to warn Ben then leave and yet Agent Reynolds was at the Stadium. Ben wanted answers.
"Pete, why were you at the Stadium?" Ben asked Sternly.
Reynolds paused for a moment as Ben cornered him with a question he may not answer. Ben stood from his chair and approached Reynolds.
"You were with those Advant guards did you guys know this would happen?" Ben asked raising his voice.
Reynolds was thinking of various answer he could come with that would steer Ben from finding out more about his plans. He then remembered the crowd was recording at the stadium.
"Come on Ben." Reynolds snapped back. "Everybody saw him, why do you think we did the rewind protocol?"
Ben remembered and stepped back for a moment realizing Reynolds was right.
"Look, I get it. I’m looking out for your family but I also have to keep my bosses running around in circles, you just have to trust me." Reynolds answered back.
The thick metal door opened and a nurse poked her head into the room.
"Agent Reynolds, you have a phone call." Replied the nurse.
Reynolds steps out of the room and follows the nurse back to the nurse’s station. She give him the phone as he answered, it was one of his henchmen on the other end.
"Reynolds sir, the protocol is complete, we took the liberty of looking at the surveillance videos from the stadium. Check your phone."
His henchman hung up and Reynolds immediately turned his phone back on. He received a video message on his phone and he played the video. In the video, he watched a surveillance tape of when Kevin released an energy blast in the locker room and Johnny was there as he dodged the attack. Seeing Johnny in the footage gave Reynolds an idea, he calmly walked over to Kevin’s doctor.
"I need you to discharge the kid and tell the higher ups what you discovered." ordered Reynolds
"But I found nothing." Dr. Geyser
"Which is fine, just tell them that I will deliver the kid to them tonight." Reynolds stated
The Doctor agreed and went to a nearby computer to start putting together the discharge paperwork. Reynolds returned to Kevin’s room to find Kevin awake. The head of his bed was raised upright and he was talking to his father. He glanced over to see Reynolds walk into the room and his face dropped surprised to see him. Reynolds smiled back at him.
"How ya feeling kid?" Reynolds asked.
"Uh Dad, what is he doing here? Kevin asked worried."

How the Stars Turned Red
Announcement as of 05 July 2022: I've been diagnosed with some pretty severe nerve damage in my left arm, rendering me unable to write effectively, and as such this story is on hold until it is healed. I am so sorry, and I promise to get back to writing as soon as possible. In the latter half of the 3rd millennium CE, humanity has spread across the stars, inhabiting close to five-hundred worlds across the Orion Arm. Earth has become irrelevant, a historical has-been. The galactic map is dominated by two mega-factions, both controlling vast amounts of territories either through direct control or through their many allies and treaty signatories. The Kingdom of Aurora is the political and economic hegemon despite consisting of only seven inhabited worlds; their strength lies in the Royal Union, an interstellar commonwealth composing an internal market and a common defence pact. These member worlds are myriad and varied, culturally as well as politically, but they all flock to the same banner. The Independent Systems Alliance, spearheaded by the Republic of Elysium, is the ascendant challenger to Aurora and the Union. A pseudo-federal multi-system polity, the Alliance economy and military is rapidly expanding, but at the cost of effective democratic and meritocratic involvement by its people. However, with two superpowers as this, chafing along a common border, and with a constant clamour of polemics, both sides have become convinced the other is constantly preparing for war and are on the look-out for any perceived weakness in their opponent. The predictable result is a huge arms race and a cold war spreading across the stars, requiring only a spark to set the galaxy aflame. Drawn into this game of high stakes are ordinary men and women, their peaceful lives, hopes, and aspirations swallowed by the vortex of conflict and distrust. This is their story. Cover art by Rhodex Designs (FB). Hope you like long chapters and adjectives. Note: English is not my first language. Another story set in the same universe, written by a good friend
