《Tyrant Named God》Flicker Of Hope

The Entangina Empire is the largest city in the entire world, easily twice to triple the size of the Holy Empire. The Kingdom is also the hub of a vast network of trade routes that constantly bring goods into the city. Unlike other Empires, Entangina is the only one that allows other humanoid races into the city, races such as the elves who have unnaturally long ears and dwarves who are short in stature yet very muscular. The Entangina Kingdom is governed by a very wise Elf known as Grismala. Grismala is not only intelligent, but she is also known to be equal in terms of power to Lucious himself and was the only one to be able to defend herself from God’s ferocious attacks hundreds of years prior. She also has full authority to override the courts, which micromanage all dealings inside the kingdom.
In the Royal Capital of Entangina, news had spread to the high courts about the revival of God. Due to the disturbing news spread worldwide, every nation decided to send a representative to Entangina to discuss the correct path forward. Grismala is not interested in the petty politics of the human races and decides to skip out on going to this very demanded meeting. Sensing a powerful presence, she decides to go out and investigate the source it’s radiating from.
Lancel and Rhea enjoy the entertainment offered to them at the royal capital. After a brief relief, Rhea decides to stop hiding in the city and personally go outside and meet new people. This scared Lancel, who knew that if Alinta got her hands on her, she would directly lead her to him. Lancel would like nothing more but to leave her on her own. However, he promised his sister that he would find a strong source of magical power and bring that person to her. To stay true to that promise, Lancel decides to go with Rhea to the grand bazaar where people trade their goods.
“Hey, Lancel, what are those creatures over there with long pointy ears?”
“Those are Elves, a subhuman race of creatures adept with magic.”
Rhea continues to browse through the bazaar. The bazaar was recently restocked with fresh goods from around the kingdom, encouraging civilians to purchase more. Hundreds of people streamed into the bazaar and out like an organized platoon. As Rhea looks around, she can find unique items of every kind, including wands, staffs, swords, bows, and much more. Rhea had no interest in weapons but was attracted to something unique. “Wait, what’s that smell? Oh my… Lancel! Come over here!”
Lancel had never visited such a crowded city like this before, and due to the current state of things, he wanted to keep a low profile. Cursing Rhea in his mind for being so careless and jealous of her ability to stay calm after what they had just been through, he decides to go and see what Rhea is looking at.
“It seems like you found a pie, so what? Is it unique in any way?”
“But Lancel, this product is a specialty of Hupu Village! The last of its kind. It makes me sad knowing that no more would be produced anymore.”
“I don’t get the significance of it. What is Hupu village to you anyway?”
“It’s complicated, but I guess I can trust you after all we have been through. Hupu village is, well was, my home.”
Although Lancel apologizes for his actions at Hupu village, he still couldn’t care less about her issues. What concerned Lancel was that they were no longer armed, and for betraying God on the battlefield, he noticed that he could no longer use his holy sword. Lancel also knew that Alinta would be alive. Still, he just had a slight intuition. Logically speaking, she would return to them soon, but for better or worse, he did not know. “Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, and for what happened.”

Still grieving the loss of her beloved father, Rhea begins to cry. She was the only guide she ever knew in life, and losing him was a stab through the heart. She blamed herself for being powerless in aiding him and cursed God for allowing such events to transpire.
“I understand you are upset, but we cannot freely spend much time like this. How about it, let’s head back home soon. We also must get some weapons, but I’m not sure which you are more comfortable with. We can grab that pie if you want. It is your last memory of your village, but it’s better than remembering them being killed.”
As Rhea stops her crying and calms down, A mysterious woman wearing a fancy white robe crafted with magic runes that ward off evil approaches them.
“Sister! Oh, how good it is to see you at long last! How I missed you!” Said Lancel upon seeing her.
“Pleasure seeing you still alive. I wonder how you managed to pull off pretending to be a human for so long with those church fanatics. Who is this woman by your side Lancel?”
“Oh yes, her. This is Rhea. We met each other under weird circumstances. She came from Hupu village and was sought after by Varis.”
“Rhea, you have my deepest condolences. I heard what happened at Hupu village. To kill innocent civilians like that and call it Gods work. If that is what God asks for, you must wonder what type of a twisted monster he is. Not even demons ask for such things. Oh, it seems I have yet to introduce myself.”
“Are you sure that’s okay, sister? You shouldn’t say your name in public it might catch attention.”
“Everything’s fine, don’t worry about me. Rhea, it’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is Grismala. I have been expecting you for quite some time now.”
“How could you be expecting me? We have never even met before.” Said Rhea with a confused expression.
“I’ve watched Varis’s movements through magic for a while now and saw you join the army. When you came into the city, your magical powers were enough to attract my attention. That is how I found you here.”
“You are telling me if I didn’t bring Rhea here, you wouldn’t come to greet me, sister?”
“Obviously not.”
After seeing the brother and sister argue with each other for the first time, Rhea begins to smile, reminding her of her relationship with her sister. “It’s good to have someone to rely on.” Said Rhea.
“Certainly. Of course, in this case, Lancel Always relies on my magical support.”
“I Do not.”
“Yes, you do! Before you even went to that army as a spy, you asked me to cast enhancement magic on your armor, remember?”
“Fine, you have a point, but stop rubbing it in all the time. Why did you come here anyway? What business do you have with Rhea?”
“Her magic powers course. She has a lot of room for growth, but since I could track her so easily, it seems that she has not yet mastered the use of magic.”
“Yeah… All I have learned to cast are healing spells back at our village. My father always instructed me to avoid spells that can take lives and focus on helping people.”
“Healing people is quite the noble task, but you cannot expect to save lives just by healing; you must learn to protect and fight back.”

“That is why I have brought her to the bazaar. We are looking for weapons to defend ourselves, but I’m not sure what weapon she would be good with.”
After taking a moment to think about a weapon, Grismala suggests, “How about a wand? It’s a simple tool, the most basic weapon for casting magical spells.”
“A wand, huh? I guess we can try that.”
Grismala steps forward and pulls a Silverwood staff out of a portal in the air, much like Daemon at the house. Silverwood is the best magic-compatible wood to use for casting magic. She begins chanting a spell, and magical circles surround the three of them. At the end of the spell, they are transported into a small, empty dimension in a shape of a cube with nothing inside.
“What the hell is this? Since when could you cast something so advanced, sister?”
“I studied magic for twenty years while you were gone on your little adventure. Let’s just say I picked up a few ideas about our world and applied them to this magic.”
Rhea is shocked at the small dimension they were teleported to. Her eyes were wide open, and she looked around. It seemed like there was nothing there, just a vast nothingness surrounding them, yet there was ground, and they were not falling. Amazed at the spell, she says, “This must have taken an insane amount of magical energy to create. I thought only people like Lucious could cast something this advanced and to do it so easily, no less. Please teach me magic!”
“Why, of course, I will teach you. That is why I brought you here in the first place!” Another small portal opens up in the air, and this time Grismala pulls out a basic magic wand and hands it to Rhea.
“Oh my… A wand! These things are soo cool. My father had one of these too!”
While Rhea is moving the wand around like a child with a toy, Lancel whispers to Grismala. “Why did you really bring us here?”
“This girl seems to have insane magical power. Her raw magical strength is twice as strong as mine, and she still has room for growth. I brought us here into this empty dimension just in case her spell goes havoc.”
“Ah, that makes sense, I guess. Let’s see how she does.”
“Rhea? Are you done goofing around?”
“Yes, mam!”
“Alright. I assume you know how magic works, correct?”
“Well, somewhat, but I would appreciate it if you could give a detailed description.”
“The concept of magic revolves around the karma level of a being. The magic you cast also depends on your emotions. If left uncontrolled, your magic will go wild.”
“Karma levels?”
“Yeah. Karma is essentially what defines if you are a good or evil practitioner of magic. The higher your karma is, the more holy magic you can use. If your karma goes into the negatives, you can cast demonic magic instead. However, using demonic magic comes at a cost to the soul. Its strength is unimaginable but can corrupt the mind.”
“I see, so all this time, I’ve been casting holy magic with my spells, well, my healing spells to be exact.”
“Yes. Healing spells are considered holy magic. But healing isn’t the only type of holy magic there is. Basic spells such as fireball are also considered holy.”
“How do I cast fireball then?”
“To cast fireball, point your wand to the location you are aiming at and try to say fireball as loudly as you can.”
“Ok, let’s try it.”
As Rhea begins to cast her first spell, Grismala and Lancel move behind her to not get in front of the spell, and in case the spell goes havoc, they can step in to take control fast.
“FIREBALL!”
Upon those words, a massive torrent of fire comes out of the wand. The fire impacts the pure black walls of the cube and shatters it. Amazed at the power of magic Rhea just cast, Lancel quickly casts dispel on the fire to extinguish it.
“That was Incredible, Rhea!”
“To think that you could break my impenetrable cube with such a basic spell. You are incredibly gifted, Rhea. But don’t let this get the better of you. Just now, your magic went out of control. If Lancel didn’t step in, the fire might have caused much damage.
Lancel walks up to Rhea, still amazed at the spell she just used, puts her hand on her shoulder, and tells her, “What was on your mind when you were casting that spell?”
“I was thinking of my family, but I would rather not talk about it right now.”
“I understand that you have been through a lot, but you must not give in to your negative emotions. Spells like fireball are normal magic. If you cast them with negative emotions, it can quickly turn into demonic magic, which is exactly what happened here.”
Sensing immediate danger once again, Grismala pulls out her staff and prepares herself.
“The spell is not over yet! Rhea! Brother! Come to my side at once. Brother cast Holy Forcefield around us now!”
Lancel channels a holy shield which consumes a lot of energy to maintain. As Lancel finishes, a burning red fog surrounds the room. Fire erupts from around the empty cube but does not harm them because of the shield. As the fires calm down, the burning red fog forms what appears to be the Gigantic Burning Eye on top of God’s fighting form during the siege of castle Germont. The giant eye, staring down at the horrified magicians, begins to converse.
“GRISMALA!!!!!!!!! OH, HOW I MISSED YOU!”
Grismala comes forward and faces the giant eye. “You are not welcome here, you fiend!”
“YET HERE I AM, AM I NOT? IT SEEMS THAT YOUR CUBE WAS SOMEHOW PENETRATED FROM THE INSIDE. I GAVE YOU THAT CUBE AS A GIFT, AND YOU BROKE IT. HOW SHAMEFUL! AND BY SUCH A WEAK SPELL!”
Grismala realizes that the only reason God was able to get inside the cube was because of Rhea, who shattered it for a split second. Although the cube is impenetrable from the outside, it is less strong on the inside.
“You are an illusion! You have no hold over this realm! Begone!”
“Oh, my dear, I noticed you were watching the fight but thought it would be best if you kept on watching as I killed everyone. Did you enjoy the show?”
“If you won’t leave, tell me why is it that you are here?”
“I simply wanted to say hello. We are, after all, old friends. I see that you have that traitor of a brother Lancel back.”
The eye looks at Rhea, surprised that she is still alive and the one to break his cube.
“Rhea, correct? Yes… you are the girl from the house. Wonderful to see you are still going strong after what I did to you.”
Rhea, confused about what the eye was talking about, asks, “How do you know of that? Who are you?”
“Who am I? I am God, the creator of this world! The same creator who took your sister’s and your father’s lives. Although thinking back at it, they were so weak, how could you inherit such power from such weaklings?”
Out of sheer anger, Rhea begins to cast attacking spells at the eye, hoping to stop it from continuing to talk. Unlike most magic casters, Rhea starts to cast fireball without incantation. All the while, she screamed and cried.
“Don’t you dare insult my family! Don’t you dare call them weaklings! You coward!!! How could you! Why why why why why would you do this to me!”
Every fireball Rhea casts quickly depletes her magical reserves. Each fireball flies through the giant eye as if it was going through an illusion. The fireballs grow weaker and weaker, and eventually, Rhea collapses, crying to the floor. In an attempt to stabilize the situation, Grismala casts holy magic, sensing that God entered the cube through the use of demonic magic.
“Your petty magics will not stop me, vile woman. You did betray me ages past, but I was weak then. I now have a mortal vessel and five hundred times the strength I held in my previous vessel. I am currently moving to the Southern Capital. We will destroy that nest of heretics, and you will be next!”
These proved to be the final words of the giant eye. Before Disappearing, laughter is heard from every corner of the cube. The giant eye then explodes into enormous black flames that burn through the holy shield cast by Lancel. The black flames are known in the new world to burn the soul of their victims. In an attempt to save her brother's life, she pushes him out of the area where the black flame was going to land. As a result of her bravery, she managed to save her brother. However, her finger was slightly grazed by the black flame.
The black flames fall to the ground, and no one gets hurt except Grismala. Because the black flames bared so much strength, it consumed the cube from the inside. Grismala grabs the bodies of both Lancel and Rhea and teleports them out of the cube right before the cube is completely eradicated from the world.
Slightly relieved of being able to save everyone, a chill runs through Grismala’s spine. She has not felt such a terror ever before in her life. She can only think of one thing as she continues to take Rhea and Lancel to safety.
“If that monster is truly back, then we are all doomed. The strength he possessed was frightening. None of us would stand a chance if he were to get serious. He was able to beat all of us with a mere illusion spell. We really are worthless! Damn it, damn it, DAMN IT!! How could I get bested by an illusion!!”
Lancel was still conscious and terrified of God’s overwhelming might. So much so that he pretended to be unconscious in front of his sister. Grismala takes out her staff again. This time, she casts a teleportation spell to her home. The black flames that touched her hand consumed most of her mana reserves. Without her realizing it, the moment she was teleported to her house, she fell out of pure exhaustion due to a lack of mana, which is crucial for the survival of elves.
Seeing that his sister fell, Lancel gathers enough courage to begin to move again, although at a snail’s pace at first, he finally stands back up.
“How can the mortal races have any chance against that monster!”
Frustrated by his weakness, Lancel begins to rage and bashes one of the tables out of anger in his sister’s room. After realizing he was going berserk, he calmed himself down. He moved the bodies of his sister and Rhea to his sister's bed instead of leaving them on the ground.
A few hours passed, and both Rhea and Grismala were finally awake. Rhea woke first, but it took Grismala three more hours to gather enough strength to wake up. Once Rhea sees Grismala stand up, she runs to her and immediately apologizes.
“I’m so sorry for causing trouble. None of this would have happened if I was in control of my emotions inside your cube.”
“It’s not your fault. It’s mine. I was utterly and absolutely powerless back there. Everyone claims I’m a genius magic caster, but I was beaten by a damn illusion. So embarrassing! He could have actually killed us back there. He is toying with us! Damn that coward!”
Rhea looks over to Lancel and notices the hollow eyes and terrifying aura surrounding him. She sympathizes with him since she felt the same about losing her family. As she approaches Lancel, he bursts out in laughter.
“Ahaahhahhahaha!! ahhahaha!! We were fools to think we could beat that thing. No wonder Varis would follow him like a sheep! I’m sorry, Rhea and Grismala, I have a lot on my mind right now. I’m going to head out for a while.”
Rhea looks at Lancel with sad eyes as he leaves the room and, in a low voice, says, “Stay safe.”
Grismala had thought of a plan. It would take about 3months before God destroyed the Southern Empire. To match God’s strength, she would have to get creative. Thousands of obelisks were set up years before to fight against God in case he returned one day. These obelisks were mana transfer catalysts directly transferring mana from one person to another. In this case, all the obelisks were linked to her; thus, she would use everyone with high magical powers to channel their energy. They might have stood a chance with the combined strength of thousands of people’s mana reserves. Grismala looks at Rhea and sees a perfect opportunity to get a new candidate to help transfer her mana. But this would leave Rhea powerless during the fight.
“Rhea, I have a plan, but you might not like it.”
“It doesn’t matter. We have no choice. God gave us the ultimatum. We must prepare ourselves for the oncoming invasion.”
“I want you to touch this, Rhea.”
Grismala pulls a small obelisk out of her white robe. As Rhea touches the figurine, she can feel her mana draining away quickly and take her hand off it.
“What the hell was that?”
“That is my plan for the fight.”
“How will this help us?”
“The mana you felt draining from you when you touched it was transferred to me. When we eventually have to fight against God’s overwhelming strength, we need one single source of ultimate power to fight back, and with this, we might have a chance.”
“I hope you realize that God won’t attack single-handedly. He has an army of high-ranking demons under his command. What about them?”
“Yes, I know that. I have a plan for that too. We have about two to three months to prepare. I will have you train your martial arts skills as a warrior during this time. We will craft magical weapons in mass and prepare for the fight. Magical weapons store their mana, so in that regard, you won’t require mana during the battle.”
“That makes sense. Since you are most experienced with magic, transferring all our powers to you would be the smartest move, actually the only move we have left to play.”
“Holding this much power is dangerous. This might permanently corrupt my soul, but there is no other way out. Trust me. If I knew how to avoid this, I would have.”
“Just whatever you do, be careful.”
“To think a day would come where I was taking advice from a beginner, jokes aside, it’s much appreciated!”
“I will remain by your side, along with your brother. We will face this monster head-on and will not yield to this evil.”
“That is reassuring.”
“Then I must gather the forces and inform the council. Please go to the Mages Guild immediately and help in any way possible.”
“I will.”
Grismala Takes her to leave, along with Rhea. Three days pass, and the three still have not communicated once. Everyone is busy with their own thing. As night falls on the third day, Alinta, tracking Rhea and Lancel for days, has finally caught up with them.
Meanwhile, God and his army of demons in the Southern Empire were about thirteen days away from the royal capital. The army was delayed from arrival because of the slow speed of the enormous carriage God was in. God did not mind the delay and liked that he had some free time. He was able to mess around with people the entire ride down south. He laughed and laughed inside the carriage every day, a sinister laugh that was enough to scare the demons to their core. No demon was willing to find out what God was doing in the carriage, scared for their lives. Ezizil was the only demon not taunted by God’s laughter. He was curious but dared not look either because his senses told him it would be wise not to.
The senators of the Southern Empire were going crazy. They sent letters to every kingdom asking for help, but no one replied. It seemed that they were all alone. Before the army even arrived, the people began to panic. Riots and looters promoted descent in the empire, and all hope seemed lost. Hundreds of homes were burned down, and thousands of gold worth of goods were stolen on a daily basis. The problem had evolved to a situation where even the police force was no longer operational. As the senators prepared the military for a final stand, the entire senate was surrounded by the civilians who wanted to take their heads and offer them to God.
Lucious, upon his tower, has been using detection magic to pick up the location of his daughter. A tremendous amount of mana was consumed on every attempt. He did succeed after weeks of none stop trial and error. Happy at the thought of his daughter being safe and in the good hands of Grismala, he returns to his throne. Awaiting him stood Ermis. Ermis is Lucious's right hand, and he acts in his stead when he is gone.
“What news have you brought for me, Ermis?”
Ermis bows his head and replies, “My lord, we have gotten news that the Southern Empire is in total disarray. We must help evacuate all the civilians right away before God gets there.”
“If the senators cannot maintain their power during a crisis, then they shouldn’t deserve that power, to begin with.”
“But my lord.”
“Enough, we are already at a disadvantage because of Varis. Damn him for taking the holy force on such a foolish errand.”
“My lord, surely you realize that God would come north after his vacation south.”
“I realize that.”
“What do you plan, your excellency?”
“If the Capital of the Southern Empire is crushed, God will move his army north. Even you know of that. If he does, especially with his power now, our kingdom will fall in less than an hour. Our only hope is to appease that demon for now until we find a way to fight against him.”
“My lord! If he does come and we greet him with open arms, he will surely kill you and replace you immediately! Without your guidance, our kingdom will fall.”
“No, the God I know is too prideful to replace me. He will let me live, and I’m sure he knows I will try to backstab him again. But in our circumstances, we have no other choice.”
“And what of the countermeasure against God? How will we defeat him?”
“Grismala has a plan. In an attempt to contact my daughter, I was able to speak with her. We must entrust our future to her.”
“Very well, my lord, then I must attend to my duties.”
Another two weeks pass by, and everyone prepares for the incoming doom. The Grand Carriage is put down in front of the gate of the capital, and the demons await further instructions. On the capital walls stood thousands of archers prepared for combat; overlooking them was the senate building at the center of the wall. Everyone stood silent and stayed still, not a noise to be heard. The carriage door opens, and three beautiful women and God walk out.
The senators of the southern empire look onto the battlefield in terror. The sinister energies radiating from God outmatched any demon present on that day. With a wave of his hand, God kills two hundred enslaved humans to transport the carriage. Shocked at the grand display of power and commanded at such ease, the warriors of the southern empire, and even the most elite ones, were utterly terrified.
God bursts out laughing, for the magic he just cast was a simple tier two spell with some enhancements. No longer able to stand gods laughter and terrified of being so close to him, the warriors of the empire ran away in sheer terror as if they could even escape. After a long period of only him laughing at the battlefield, God finally makes his move.
