《A Moth's Stories》A Musical Silence

The stars shone dully from the excess light of the spotted city below. Alone above it all, a girl sat alone. Her grey shirt and blue shorts only partially blocking the cold night air that moves throughout the large expansive mountain lake. With the aid of her headphones, she creates her own silence with music so she can think. She gazed upon the nocturnal city sprawl that despite the late time, people wandered the lit streets that blackout the night sky.

The expansive rivers raged between the towers of concrete and glass as the current flows throughout the city. Boat motors echo all around inside the mountain bowl that the city rests in. The waters full of mechanical and human life even as the sun has long since set over the waterlogged city.

The girl shuts her eyes as she sits upon the lone brown ledge that gazes upon the busy city as even though the sounds reach her, she creates her own silence. Her music silently playing in a soothing tune that blocks out the orderly chaos of the world beneath her. The girl lays down on the cold stone edge as she rests and gazes to the stars. Her eyes slowly adjust to allow the beauty of the black stary sky to appear in full. The stars never do manage their true grace as the constructed world partially masks the beauty of nature.

As she settles into her position over the city, her bound brown hair allowing her head to softly rest atop the solid cold stone, she wonders what else there is to see in the world.

“What sights are outside of the city?” The girl asks to no one but yet she expects an answer to. An answer, unlike the music she uses to create her own personal silence, to never reach her ears. As she gazes to the black lightly sparkled heavens above her, a star shoots across the sky leaving a trail the continues to follow it for the likely hundreds of meters as it travels before nothing of the falling object remains.

But as that object burned up, the girl made a wish. A silent wish in her mind as she closed her eyes and hoped against hope that it would come true. That whenever she opens her brown eyes, she saw a new scenery. One without towers. One without vehicles. One without the combined power of thousands of lights dulling the night’s dark and cold stary sky.

She wished to open her eyes and see trees of large untouched forests that have shallow and clear creeks winding through the dense trees. Lush mountains that stand high above all and deep lively oceans the stretch far beyond what the eye can see. Vibrant and colourful flower filled plains that stretch all around them and clear, blue skies that have the occasional small cloud drift through the otherwise blue monotone sky. But most of all. She wishes to see a night sky that is unpolluted by the light of mankind. The light of the city she calls her home removed from the darkness that sits above her and everyone else.

She wishes that as soon as her eye lids raise, the night sky she has seen for many years to change to view new constellations.

But as she slowly opened them, like many times before, they sky never changed. The light from the world below still radiates and illuminates the night sky. Laying there alone with their headphones on, closing their eyes once more, they just stay there in their musical silence.
