《Hello, Inside Monster》CHAPTER XXXVI: WHO’S WHO?

„Ok, sure captain! We’ll wait for you here. Of course,” DooSan said and hung up the phone. Then, he turned and he saw SolHi approaching him. „Something new?” he asked.
„Yeah. We found out the name of our „friend,” the one who loves Parkour that much: Gu SilGi, 27 years old. He was at least twice into a Juvenile Prison. The last time he was released was at the age of 18. Since then, nothing illegal had been reported, I mean: nothing to have his name on. But…”
„But it's all showing or someone helped him to hide his shits.”
„Yeah, something like this and what is more: two of the times he has fallen into the hands of the police, it was for data theft and for phishing.”
„Just like Park Yu Ra,” they heard detective Gi’s voice who was approaching them.
After leaving the cemetery and finding out that their suspicion about Yu Ra was a true fact, DooSan had decided that they won’t handle this case alone. So, he asked for the help of the Kanam Police Section, and the person in charge of helping them had been named detective Gi and his team because they worked a lot with Kan and his team before and everybody knew that if these two teams are working together the success of the case is assured.
„The second time Gu SilGi was arrested, along with him the police arrested and Park Yu Ra, his girlfriend,” Gi finished to read from his report.
„When did this happen?” DooSan asked.
„About 8 years ago. Yeah. But we couldn’t show the guilt of any of them and both got off scot-free.”
„So, everything was just a masquerade: Park Yu Ra’s knife wound, the sufferance for her lost friend and all this just to play out time and to find a place to hide,” DooSan said in a cross voice.
„It seems so. But… they probably didn’t take into account that we can find out about their yearlong crime,” Gi said.
„Maybe you are right, but the important now is to find out who in fact was buried instead of Park Yu Ra… GhiYon calls,” DooSan said, answering the phone. „Doctor Park, tell me you have some good news.”
„The best,” GhiYon’s voice was heard in the loudspeaker. „The victim you found died because of a heart attack. It probably happened when she’d been attacked. Her name is No SuDjin, 24 years old. She’d been declared missing a year ago, on the 24 of May. Her relatives told us that SuDjin moved to the Capital City while waiting for a heart transplant, after being diagnosed with a life-threatening form of tachycardia.”
„The 24th of May. The same day Park Yu Ra was declared dead,” SolHi said. „But… how did they meet? It’ll be too much to find out that actually Kim Ha Na, No SuDjin, and Park Yu Ra studied together.”
„And you are right, detective Ian. No SuDjin is from Pusan. She came to Seoul, waiting for the heart transplant while Kim Ha Na and Park Yu Ra are from Kongido, where we found the body,” GhiYon added.
„Something is missing here,” Gi said. „The motive for the murder: if the victim and Park Yu Ra didn’t know each other before, why was she killed then?”
„For the money for the transplant,” Kan said, approaching them along with inspector Yu.
„For the money for the transplant?! But… how? No SuDjin was waiting for a heart transplant. Wherefrom did Park Yu Ra find out that…,” DooSan asked, confused.
„Ask him,” Kan said, pointing Yu with the head. „Actually, who informed us about such hypothesis was his son and the new member of our „beloved family,” Kan said, grinning satisfied.
„SuJin?” SolHi asked, in amazement.
„Mmm. It seems that SuJin’s friends are Gu SilGi’s friends too. Actually, detective Gi, you know one of those friends,” Yu said, staring at Gi.
„Do I know him? Wherefrom?”
„You got him. Actually, you still have him: he’s the same person you’d arrested along with SuJin the day they tried to break into the National Bank system. If SuJin’s words are true, they only dealt with the minor businesses, such as small transactions or breaking into some minor companies’system, but there are many others in their circle who were working with the Grey Market and … with human trafficking.”
Yu’s words made everybody stare open-mouthed at him.
Shaking his head to clear his mind, DooSan motioned toward Yu to continue. „But… those guys are just puppets… someone important is the boss and the one who makes the rules and gives the orders. Look here: A Rim found out that the day No SuDjin was declared missing, she withdrew from the bank 75 thousand euros, money that she transferred later that day into a „ghost account,” and, according to her family, that money was for the transplant. I don’t think that she was that stupid to spend them in something else when her life was in danger.”
„But, inspector Yu, how did you find out all this? We just got the information about who the victim is.”
„SolHi, it’s because SuJin suspected this, right from the beginning, as he saw Gu SilGi’s face, but he said nothing because he wasn’t sure about this. But… when A Rim told us about the money and that Park Yu Ra can be a fake, he pieced out everything and…”
„Now I understand why SuJin took the nickname „Black Unicorn,” detective Gi joked. „He’s damn good, inspector Yu. If one day he decides to enter the police, then for sure I won’t let him on your hands. Let’s talk to his friend first. It’ll be more efficient this way than to keep guessing.”
***
„Hey, Ko Gi Hiok, think twice before answering. This can help you to avoid a lot of years spent behind bars,” SuJin told a young guy, the same age as him.
„Traitor,” Gi Hiok hissed the words, grimacing revolted. „Anyway, I’m out of this. We are talking about the Black Organ Market, bro! Even if I escape jail, I won’t breathe for long because I’ll be eliminated just as I’ll step out of this building and only to give an example to the others. These guys aren’t playing!”
„These guys? Who exactly?” DooSan asked, staring at the two young men, being not that far from them, along with SolHi.
„I don’t know their names and neither did I see their faces. Actually, I never tried to find out something about them because I care about my life and I didn’t want to be part of what they do. It was enough for me dealing with small things.”
„Not even if I ask for only 5 years instead of 10 at the trial?” DooSan said this, ironically.
„Dead won’t help me,” Gi Hiok answered in the same tone and looked elsewhere.
„So? What are you asking for helping us?” SolHi asked.
„Minimum security prison. And… if it is possible fewer years behind the bars… it’s ok for me! If not… then: sorry, guys, but … I won’t!”
„Ok, then!” DooSan said after a few moments of thinking. „7 years in a minimum-security prison. Anyway, I wasn’t after you. So, I can afford to make the deal with you, while you are just a confederate.”
„Ia, Han DooSan, just a confederate?” SolHi said, in a whisper. „They took that money from the account of an invalid child. What confederate? He got money for what he did. So, he’s guilty.”
„I know, but … anyway, it was the child’s father who asked for the „service,” and he also confessed that Ko Gi Hiok didn’t know whose account it was.”
„You are the prosecutor. You know better than me,” SolHi said, ironically, making DooSan grin at her.
„What do you want from me?” Gi Hiok asked, eventually.
„Help me to get into the Grey Market!” SuJin said, in a sure voice.
„Are you crazy? If they get you, you are dead. And the rest of your family, man. It won’t count for them that your daddy is a cop.”
„They won’t get me and you know this.”
„They already got you,” DooSan tried to provoke SuJin, happy that he finally can get revenge on him for hearing for so many times SuJin calling SolHi „oh, my beautiful Nuna,” but he kept silent when SolHi hit him an elbow.
„Well, prosecutor, let me tell you that you’re wrong: if SuJin has fallen into the hands of the police it was for my stupidity - I gutted and…,” Gi Hiok sadly said and sighed. „Anyway, you stay out of this, SuJin. I owe you too much to allow this.”
„Then?” DooSan asked with curiosity.
„I’ll do it. I don’t have anybody to cry for me in case something goes wrong and… if happens, I can wail with the police. Especially about you, prosecutor Han. I’ll love to see you behind the bars, paying for my death. It’ll be my pleasure,” Gi Hiok grinned at DooSan.
„Dreaming is something free in this world, boy. Me, behind the bars? No way! Only if you are reborn in my place,” DooSan said confidently and, grimacing, he left the room.
SuJin, at SolHi’s command, followed DooSan and she finally approached Gi Giok, putting a laptop in front of him.
„Set the stage for the show and… don’t even think to fool us or I swear you won’t leave the jail ever.”
„Your threats cut no ice with me, ma’am. But… I’ll like to be set free instead. Not that I’m too soft, but these cuffs are bothering me and I’ll work slower than a slider,” Gi Hiok said, pointing his tied hand from the desk with the cuffs.
Tepid, SolHi took the key from the pocket of the anorak, and, before opening the cuffs, she grimaced. Then, after releasing Gi Hiok, she positioned herself behind him, staring at how faster he was tapping on the keyboard. One of the written messages was „I’m out, guys! Let’s start the party!”
***
That same night, two hours later, SuJin and Gi Hiok were face to face at the same desk in the interrogatory room, with a laptop in front of them, and staring at each other like two enemies even if before this they protected somehow the other one. „Did someone tell you that you are a real ogre?” Gi Hiok hissed the words toward SuJin. „If they get you, you are dead, idiot!”
„And I told you that they won’t do this because you’ll take care of my back.”
„I’ll take care of your back! What the hell are you talking about?”
„Check the „intruder,” SuJin said, smiling with satisfaction, and only then did Gi Hiok spot that in his account was a second person.
„Damn worm!” Gi Hiok ripped.
„A long time since I didn't hear such sweet words from you! So, should we start?”
„If you insist, but … did you explain well the rules of the game? Not for nothing, but if something goes wrong, we are all dead.”
„And do you think that they are new in this or what? Yah, Gi Hiok, we are talking here about the best. Trust me!” and SuJin winked.
Yu and Kan who were checking their work, stared at the two young men, grimacing. More Yu, than Kan, was unhappy with what he heard: „when he’s out of here I’ll break his neck,” Yu mumbled. „I didn’t teach him this.”
„Are you sure?! As I know you, he’s your perfect copy,” Kan said, smiling.
„Whose side are you on now, Kan?”
„Mine… of course. And … he’s right. Not your son, I mean. The other one. If one of us fails, we all are dead, man.”
„Did A Rim and Yoon Suk get to the hospital?”
„Not yet, but they should be close by now, and… you go after them.”
„Why so?”
„Big problems with the prostate, man! You are already a patient and I’m still confused why you are here now and not hospitalized,” and Kan pushed Yu out of the room, without regard to Yu’s mumblings, asking for explanations.
***
While DooSan was checking a file along with Gi, being both so focused on the data they were verifying, DooSan felt how someone slowly tapped on his shoulder. Turning toward that person, he saw SolHi, pointing with the head toward the door and asking for following her.
Amazed with her request, DooSan stared for a few moments behind her, but, in the end, he gave the file to detective Gi and followed SolHi.
Exiting the police station, DooSan saw SolHi in a small park next to the building, waiting for him. Approaching her, he asked in a low voice: „Some secrets around? Or did you call me here for a romantic meeting maybe?!” DooSan joked, but he right away became serious, seeing the message on SolHi’s mobile phone: „hi, baby. Let’s meet later than we planned. What about in three days? I assure you that it’ll be explosive.”
„Baby?!” DooSan growled, grimacing. „So many lover boys around you lately,” he said reproachfully.
SolHi stared at him, grimacing. „Give me a break, Han DooSan. Is it all that you saw in the message?! Dja Iun is talking about…”
„I know what he’s talking about, but I don’t like it, anyway. But… we’ll be ready till then.”
„Why are you so sure?”
„Because we have the support of the Special Department of Investigation for Organized Crime. Actually, they are on their way here.”
„The Special Department of Investigation for Organized Crime?! Do you think that they will go that far too…”?
„Ia, SolHi, we are talking now about a missing girl and a dead one, which is a fact that she was a victim of the human traffic. I don’t want to find Kim Ha Na as we found No SuDjin because it will be… damn it. I don’t even want to imagine this.”
„And … do you think I want this? But… I don’t know, DooSan. It seems to be more than we can imagine.”
„For this, we must check it very carefully. Anyway, I informed prosecutor Iun already about the case. To not close it.”
„And did he agree with your plan?”
„He has no choice: we have a dead body by now and a missing person. And… I gave him the perfect chance to delay things as he wanted.”
„But yet… if your bosses ask to close it, he won’t have any other choice than to close it. And… do you think that someone important is involved here? I mean, somebody important from the Prosecution.”
„It can be not only from the Prosecution. I’m tempted to think that there are many more involved here.”
„Then… this is a damn big problem, because…”
„I know, but…”
„Prosecutor Han, somebody is looking for you: captain Li and his team are already here,” detective Mo told DooSan and he right away entered the police station without waiting for Doosan’s answer.
DooSan hesitated for a few moments and SolHi spotted it. „Does something bad happen, DooSan?” she asked, preoccupied.
„Yeah, me! I want another profession right now. Let’s go inside,” he said and he was the first to head toward the door.
SolHi sighed and, nervous, she roughed her hair. Then, she wrote: „I’ll be there, baby. I won’t lose such fun, for nothing in the world,” and, after sending it, she hurried toward the building.

The Intensive Care Monitor is warningly sounding, announcing the gravity of a patient, but the one connected to the monitor is Yoon Suk, who’s pretending to be severely ill, sitting on the bed, wearing hospital clothes and trying to make up his face to really look like a person about to die.
A Rim is sitting on the sofa, staring at him under the eyebrows and with her arms across her chest. „Are you sure you did this before?” she asked, doubtfully.
„Yeah, every morning. Ia, A Rim, do you think that I’m that kind of guy that makes up his face or what? But I have a sister and I saw how she does it. So? Do you think that is better now?”
„Not really, but … try to put more purple on the lips.”
„And that's how I look like death.”
„Did you forget that you are already on the brink of the grave?” she joked, pointing toward the monitor that kept deafeningly „screaming,” even if Yoon Suk was in perfect conditions.
„As though I can forget this with such an „alarm clock” next to me,” the young man growled, grimacing unhappy. „And, anyway… I don’t get why did we have to come here and not others?!”
„Because we are the only one naive enough to be bucking for a bust in the mouth?!” A Rim murmured. „At least this is what that idiot, Pack Gi Hiok said about us.”
„Remind me to break his neck when we are out of this,” Yoon Suk murmured.
„Stay in line. I’m sure that there are many others waiting for the same. Prosecutor Han DooSan is one of them.”
Mina entered the ward along with a doctor about 40. Seeing them entering, A Rim and Yoon Suk stood up and greeted them. The first to whom Mina offered her hand was A Rim „doctor Pack Mina, psychologist,” she said. „He’s doctor Kion Gion Nan.”
„Nice to meet you. Kan A Rim and our „patient” is the detective Oh Yoon Suk who definitely doesn’t know what does it mean to be really sick. Yah, Oh Yoon Suk, and since when the dying patients are standing up and greeting the others?!” she practically yelled at the detective.
„Aaaa, you are right. I forgot about this,” Yoon Suk said, grinning.
„Don’t be so harsh with him. Not everybody knows what pain means,” doctor Kion said, kindly smiling. „Anyway, he has only to pretend to be sick and this in case someone enters here. Someone who’s not in charge of this ward. For the moment only I, doctor Pack, and two nurses know about the operation. So, the police and the prosecution officials have elbow-room to act, because the patient whose place you took, detective, was transferred today to Hanil Hospital.”
„And… may I know what he has? At least to know what for to complain,” Yoon Suk asked, confused, sitting again on the bed.
„Severe renal insufficiency. Actually, he’s waiting for a transplant and he depends on dialysis. That’s why the monitor is so noisy. I hope not that much. We are already used to the noise, but it can be a real headache for you,” doctor Kion said.
„Bearable. For the moment. Only I hope, in the end, not to need another kind of doctor,” Yoon Suk said, grinning and he glanced at Mina, who, understanding the hint, smiled.
„Don’t worry, detective. I have the perfect solution for such problems,” she said, smiling and slowly hitting her palm with the fist.
„I have to go now,” doctor Kion said when his phone rang. „If necessary, call me! I’ll be here in a minute! Doctor Pack, I’ll ask you to offer them more details.”
„Sure. I have nothing else to do, anyway,” Mina said and beckon to Yoon Suk to give her the make-up bag. At first, Yoon Suk didn’t understand what she was asking him for and stared at her. „Did you do your make-up?” she asked him.
„Mmm. Beautiful, isn’t it?” Yoon Suk said, happily smiling.
„Yeah, and it looks like hell. Even a child realizes that you are pretending only. Give me that make-up bag or you’ll use a permanent one if they get that it was just a masquerade,” Mina said and she practically whipped away the bag from his hand while the other two were staring at her, completely shocked that she knows more than they told the doctors. Without watching them, but feeling their glances fixed on her, Mina said: „don’t worry! There is no spy here. Simply, SolHi told me more about this case to be more real. So, detective Oh, stay quiet and let me work on you.”
***
„I’m in,” Gi Hiok yelled, forcing the others to approach him.
DooSan and captain Li stopped behind him, staring at the screen and trying to realize what the hell Gi Hiok and SuJin were doing, working so fast on their computers.
Meanwhile, SolHi and Kan were behind SuJin, who was changing Yoon Suk’s personal data with those of the patient whose place he took in the hospital.
„You said you are in, but I see nothing new: only your message,” DooSan asked, preoccupied.
„We need time,” SuJin said, without watching DooSan. „He had just been accepted in the system and trust me, not everybody can in. Gi Hiok was lucky to be accepted that fast and this is only because they know him for ages. If not, we had had to wait months or maybe years for this.”
„Years?” captain Li asked.
„Mmm. Let’s say this market isn’t for everybody,” Gi Hiok added. „There are only a few contacts accepted in this system. The majority are only runners like SilGi is.”
„Runners? Do you mean that not who accepted the order will bring the goods too?” SolHi asked.
„That’s right, Nuna. Let’s say that they don’t like to show their faces. They better „sacrifice” others instead,” SuJin said, kindly smiling and this made DooSan grimace, figures of fun that didn’t pass unnoticed by Kan who smiled.
Suddenly, DooSan winced, seeing a new message appearing under Gi Hiok’s one: „Oh, Pack Gi Hiok, back in business? I knew you in the cage.”
At DooSan’s command, Gi Hiok waited for a few moments before answering. „As if the cops can keep me closed! I rounded on someone else and I’m out.”
For another a few minutes, nothing else happened. „Do you think they are suspecting something?” DooSan asked captain Li, who shook his head.
„They are just sending out a feeler. If we hurry up they can „smell” that this is just a trap and they’ll lay low. Don’t rush, son! Give them some time to be they who'll try to contact you,” captain Li told Gi Hiok who nodded.
„And yet… I don’t know why do I have the feeling that someone is spying on us,” SolHi said, looking round, but the other detectives were focused on what they were doing at that moment, without paying attention to what SolHi and the others were doing.
„Do you think that can be a plant between us?” Kan asked in a whisper.
SolHi only shook her head. „Call it premonition or whatever you want, sombe. Maybe … fear not to fail, but … I feel like someone is lurking on us.”
„Maybe you are right, but we must take the risk, SolHi.”
„I know, but…”
„There it is,” DooSan practically yelled, forcing Kan and SolHi to wince.
The reason why DooSan yelled was due to the received message: „and… what are you up to this time?”
Gi Hiok didn’t make to delay in sending another message: „Pasta!”
For other few minutes, no answer came. Then, they saw the message on the screen. „Which one?”
„2+5. I’ve been adamed.”
„2+5?” DooSan asked, in amazement.
„2 kidneys, area 5, back, down,” SuJin gave the explanations, smiling. He kept silent, seeing SolHi’s reproachful glance fixed on him because she was really interested to find out wherefrom SuJin knows all these.
„It won’t be difficult to find. Delivery?”
„Intermedium,” Gi Hiok answered. Two minutes later he received a message with four photos under which was written „delivery men.” DooSan recognized SilGi in one of the photos and showed it to Gi Hiok who chose him for delivering his order.
„Order received. Delivery expected on the 5th or 6th, this month.”
„Prosecutor Han. This is the same date Dja Iun told us,” SolHi told DooSan.
„Dja Iun? Who’s Dja Iun?” captain Li asked.
„A friend of detective Ian and … an informer in this case. We’ve asked him to help us in the investigation and it seems that they intend to deliver the order the same day the Parkour competition will take place.”
„This thickens. Now I understand why did you rush to hospitalize our „patient.” They will check it first: if it’s real. Damn it!” captain Li swore.
„I think so too. Detective Kan, tell the others about the possible visit and to be very careful with this: we don’t need victims and neither to lose this chance,” DooSan gave the command.
„Alright then. Let me get on it,” Kan said, leaving the room.
DooSan and SolHi eyed each other, preoccupied. After this, she threw her phone to DooSan. Looking at the screen, he saw a new message from Dja Iun: „baby, take the „leash” with you. We have to take the „dog” with us too.”
DooSan grimaced: „the leash. Remind me to break his neck when it’s over,” he murmured and beckoned to SolHi to follow him.

Wearing hospital clothes and carrying a drip after him, inspector Yu was in the hospital hall, not that far from the Intensive Care entrance, pretending to read a book while lurking around if nobody was trying to enter.
A few moments later, one of the nurses approached him. „Sir, it is already late. You should try some sleep.”
Yu looked at his watch: 02.30 AM. „yeah, it is. I didn’t even notice how fast the time passed. But… sleeping, it’ll be a little bit hard. My roommate is snuffling so hard that… I don’t know if I can go to bed.”
„Should I give you a hypnotic then?”
„No. It’s not necessary. How I’ll feel that I can’t anymore I’ll go to sleep and then even the snore won’t bother me. Don’t worry about me, miss. Do your job. I’ll be just fine.”
„Alright then. If something, call me,” she said and walked away after bowing a little in front of him.
Yu only forced a smile, trying to make the nurse leave him alone because he noticed a strange guy, not that far from them, trying to approach the Intensive Care, but he kept hidden, seeing them two there.
What came into notice was the big ring on the pinky of the left hand of the guy and the expensive watch on the same wrist.
Not to make the guy suspect him, Yu slowly yawned and, covering his mouth with the palm and pretending he was falling asleep, he stood up and entered the ward. But he didn’t close completely the door and he could see the guy finally approaching the Intensive Care door and, after making sure that nobody saw him, he entered.
Inspector Yu quickly took his phone from the pocket and sent a message to A Rim: „we have visitors! Stand by!” and he closed the door completely at the same moment the guy entered the Intensive Care. Under the doctor's scrub, much smaller in size than the guy was usually wearing, Yu spotted the shape of a gun.

The Silver Mana - Book 1: Initiate
I used to be a healthy, young guy with a normal life - I had a career planned in professional soccer, a girlfriend, lots of hobbies, and loads of fun. Until the accident. Which changed my life. A few years later I had adjusted to my new reality, adjusted to being in a wheelchair, adjusted to having someone take care of me 24/7. And then the world changed. Old people and kids did not make it. And neither was I supposed to make it. But never count me out. If anything, I am tenacious. This new world was different. People could do magic. And there were monsters. And what about me? I had mana as well, silver mana. Which no one else seemed to have. The only problem was, I did not know what to do with it. Until I really needed to. Author's note: This is the rewrite of Silver Mana. The first bunch of chapters (until I will have caught up to level 2 of the dungeon) should be quite familiar to people that have read the original. There are some changes in content, but the story follows the original fairly closely for at least the first 150-200 pages. Most of the changes are in the writing, and some of the details of how things work. A few of the side characters get a bit more attention too. Some general comments to avoid disappointment: 1. The MC likes to swear. If you object to reading the word "fuck" at least once and usually multiple times each chapter don't read the book. "Fuck" is such a great, allencompassing word... fuck that; what the fuck?; fuck me! Fuck! one word, expressing so many nuances. And, frankly, the people I know that use fuck as a swear word.. they often use it a lot. 2. If you are looking for immediate progression, rapid advancement of the story, etc.... read another book. This one takes a bit. 3. I am NOT Pirateaba (who is writing The Wandering Inn) or anyone close to that level of productivity. If you expect to read 10k words every 3 days, or even just once a week... sorry. I've got a busy life. This is for fun, I have no patreon, paypal, anything, so I write when it is fun and however much is fun. Not more. And sometimes that turns out to be a decent amount, sometimes nothing. I have another book (Marrow) so that complicated things - basically I switch between the two whenever the muse strikes me.
