《Hello, Inside Monster》CHAPTER XVI: I’M ALSO A HUMAN. HAVE SOME MERCY

“My name. What is my name? I still don’t remember it and it’s so cold when I’m looking around, but it’s dark and a kind of scent of mold is felt all over, but I can’t realize where it comes from.

It makes me feel sick and to touch my stomach, but even so, the pain isn’t gone, as if something is squeezing me inside, but I can’t understand why I feel so,” thought SolHi, while slowly climbing the stairs to the second floor of the warehouse.

The darkness around became thicker and thicker with each stair climbed, but it didn’t bother her, at least not at the beginning, because SolHi was stepping slowly forward as if she didn’t know where she is going, moved by an inner instinct, that drags her toward that place with an incredible force.

Finally, she stopped, feeling that the pain in her stomach is about to go, and taking the mobile phone out of her pocket she turned on the light, illuminating the surroundings.

“Why am I here?” she wondered while watching carefully at the cold and empty walls and at all the trash is thrown all over, but which was something that others didn’t care about. But what caught SolHi’s eye was the big cement pylon in the middle of the first floor, which was rising almost till the hole seen on the second floor.

The pylon was damaged by the past times and because nobody took care of it, and also it had some thick and sharp wires exiting from it at the top.

Illuminating it with the lantern, SolHi could also see that on the top of that pylon was a kind of black cellophane and she thought that there was something in it, so she decided to advance till the second floor and, looking through the hole to see what it is and if possible, to take it in her hand, but after finishing to climb the stairs, when the mold scent became even more intense, SolHi felt dizzy and she staggered to her feet.

To support herself not to fall down the stairs, she touched the wall on her left, but it made her shudder even more when she felt with the skin of her palm the coldness it was guarding in it and the fact that it was so harsh at touching. And the pain in the stomach came back, but this time was a little bit different because it was descending down her bowel, squeezing her inside and it made her crouch.

Her eyes filled with tears at that moment, but it wasn’t because of pain, but she still couldn’t realize why she was crying.

“Why am I crying?” she wondered. “And why do I feel that something happened to me here? That I was here before. But … I can’t remember. I can’t.”

Suddenly a flash memory came into her mind … a man kicking her belly and yelling at her to die.

Forgetting about pain, SolHi stood up and looked around. “What was that? Who that man is? Why here?” and she left herself led by her instinct and the instinct brought her to the second floor, while her eyes stared at a blind spot on the floor.

She was seeing there, the former SolHi, the one who lived 7 years ago, wearing a white dress, crouched on the floor, full of blood, and someone kicking her belly again and again and again.

The fallen SolHi wasn’t crying. She was just trying to protect her belly with her arms, already bloody and full of livid marks, but she couldn’t take them away, because she was protecting her baby, how she could do that, at that moment.

“Un!” whispered SolHi, stretching her hand toward there, but her hand only touched the air and moved through space and it made SolHi shudder in cry and she heard what that man was telling her, while he was kicking her: “You and your baby must die. You are bothering me. You are a burden for me. Just die!”

“Stop it!” yelled SolHi, covering her ears with her palms, trying to make the man from her hallucination keep silent, but he didn’t listen to her. He continued to talk over and over again, despite all her efforts and suffering.

And then happened what SolHi always tried to keep away from her: she lacked air again and the pain in her belly became unbearable, forcing her to bend down and to stagger on her feet.

“I’m sorry!” she whispered, while her eyes looked through the void, lifeless. “I’m sorry, Un! Mammy is sorry for not protecting you!” and then she slowly stepped back … one step … then another one, abstracting the pain in her belly, and not because she didn’t feel it anymore, but because she wanted it to stop because it lasted the past 7 years and she didn’t want to feel it anymore.

And there was her salvation … a hole in the middle of the floor, through which she could let her body fall and there was also the cement pylon that could cease her pain.

When her heel touched the edge, SolHi closed her eyes. It was easier this way … but the dizziness returned and she saw around her how the place was spinning with her, but it was only in her head because she couldn’t see it anymore, but she was feeling it and she also hears voices … someone is calling her, but she doesn’t want to open her eyes and to look at the man who was calling her and finally the end approached and she lost consciousness.

Carrying an unconscious SolHi on his back, DooSan is running toward his car, seen in the distance, but no matter how hard he is trying to get there faster, the spiky fangs of lavender enter deeply in his skin and it slows him.

He looks at SolHi’s head lying on his shoulder and he can’t understand what happens to her. When he left her in the middle of the road, she was fine, but now she had difficulty breathing as if her lungs are blocked and a kind of wheezing sound is coming out of her mouth.

“You will be alright!” he whispered, grabbing her body closer to his. “You must be alright!” and in his chest again returned the remorse.

He turned back for SolHi, because of the remorse. He was rushing in his car when suddenly the beating of his heart stopped for a few seconds and he wondered what was wrong with him. He never left anybody alone, especially in the middle of the street and at night, but now he forgot about everything and he left his partner there. And DooSan returned because even if he considers her being the assassin of his elder brother, he can’t act like this. YuSan taught him this: to protect even the enemy because others are also people and deserve a second chance.

But now, after he saw SolHi almost falling through that open hole and after hearing her saying “I’m sorry!” he started to doubt.

When he first arrived at the second floor of the abandoned warehouse, he listened to her saying to somebody to stop and she was staring at someone unseen, while she was desperately touching her belly and this made him shudder. He doesn’t know why, but he felt they are tied by something and when he noticed SolHi crawling toward the edge of the hole, intending to throw herself through it, his heart frozen - “she also suffers,” he told himself and, running toward her, he managed to grab her hand in the last moment, before to fall and he did well because when SolHi fell into his arms and he saw her unconscious, he understood what pain and suffering did to her: she was frozen. She was so cold and this scared DooSan, who thought she died, but then he heard her wheezing breath, he understood that she suffers from asthma.

He found no inhaler in her pocket and he decided that it had to be in his car. It’s because of this he put her on his back and ran through the field, but when they arrived at the car and he left SolHi on the floor, supporting her back on his car, he found no inhaler, either in the vehicle.

Feeling fresh air surrounding her, SolHi came to her senses, but her breath was still difficult and she whispered to him to give her a paper bag and, when he gave it to her, she grabbed it with both hands and started to inhale and exhale the air repeatedly and this was a sign that it didn’t happen to her the first time.

“What was that?” he asked her while helping her with the paper bag. “Why did you try to kill you? Tell me what you saw there, SolHi. Something happened to you there. But the question is what, because it isn’t similar to the warehouse, we found you and YuSan 7 years ago.”

SolHi pushed away his hand that was touching hers to help her to breathe, while still staring past him, at a blind point.

“SolHi, please tell me, what happened that night. If you aren’t guilty … tell me. I must know,” but she didn’t answer. She pushed him suddenly away and standing up, she moved away from the car, without looking back.

DooSan remained in place, kneeled and feeling powerless, while watching her leaving and again he felt the connection between them and it is driving him crazy, it makes him be confused and he doesn’t understand why is he feeling this.

“What the hell happened that night? And why does she act like this and what the hell did she do in that place?” but those places weren’t willing to talk to him and after minutes of staying this way, he stood up and, entering the car, he followed SolHi at slow speed.

He could force her to enter the car and to go to a hospital, but he decided not to do this and to give her some space, while he was watching her back.

SolHi was too absent to notice his presence behind her. She is advancing on foot, with her hand touching her chest, but still, the pain is there. This time it wasn't in her stomach or belly, but it moved in her chest and it was pressing her so hard that she had the feeling that soon she would collapse again, because of lack of air.

But her feet are stubborn, as her head is. She walked all the way till she got at the first public phone and entering the cabin she dialed a number.

“Mina, it’s me. Can you come to pick me up? Mmm, I’m … I’m … I don’t know where I am,” she said and she started to cry and feeling powerless while squeezing the receiver in her hand, she let herself fall to the ground, while in the receiver Mina's voice was heard, asking SolHi where she was.

DooSan is watching SolHi from his car. She’s sitting now outside the phone cabin, supporting herself with her back on the glass wall. Even if he can’t hear her wheezing breath anymore, he knows that it didn’t pass, because he still sees her crouching from time to time, tightly hugging her knees with the arms.

“Damn it!” he whispered. “She’s so stubborn. If she would have entered the car…” and when he finally decided to bring her in the car by force and he exited the vehicle, he saw Mina’s car approaching the phone cabin at full speed and when she pressed the brake pedal to stop the car, a deafening noise was heard all around.

Then, Mina exited in a hurry and approached SolHi, giving her some medicine and helping her to stand.

While walking toward the car, SolHi watched DooSan for a few seconds, and her glance didn’t remain unnoticed by Mina, who grinned unsatisfied seeing him, but she didn’t approach DooSan. She forced SolHi to enter the vehicle and they left the place first, but when she was in the car, driving at full speed toward the town, she sent a message to someone and in that message was written a short text: “Watch your back, Han DooSan. I’m after you!”
