《Love Death Cemetery》Chap 12: The dump

A week had passed since that evening.
Lug had completely cleaned and beautified Valmont and he had finally given himself a break.
He was going to enjoy his first real weekend.
He was in the middle of the cemetery, on his lounge chair, in the early afternoon, it wasn't Sunday, so he didn't have to worry about an assault, but he still got away from the walls.
The center of the cemetery was slightly elevated and there were no graves, All that remained was the stone foundation of a now defunct keep.
Lug was enjoying the sun, until Eno came along.
The young ghost decided to stand right in front of Lug.
"Luuug, I see you found a quiet corner."
"Eno, are you standing like that to hide the sun from me? But you forgot one detail: you're a ghost. Stuff goes through you."
Eno looked a little disappointed.
"Yeah... Aren't you bored? I've got some ideas for fun things we could do."
"Like what?"
"The dump next to the cemetery, there's always interesting things to pick up there!"
Lug was conflicted, he was bored and wanted to do something entertaining, but he had no desire to get up.
"Eno... Carry me to the dump..." said Lug as if he was dying.
Eno grabbed Lug's feet and pulled him from his chair.
"Come on, get up."
Lug stood up, shook the dirt off his clothes, and followed Eno to the wall that overlooked the hill of trash just outside the cemetery.
The trash dump was big, like an artificial hill, the cemetery was elevated above the surrounding area, but the garbage came close to the walls.
There was tons of garbage of all kinds buried there. It was like a second cemetery.
"I never see anyone around here, when do they come to dump their trash?" asked Lug.

"Very late at night usually, it's illegal so they don't want to be seen."
"Considering the amount of trash, it doesn't seem to bother many people otherwise they would have cleaned up."
"I’m not sure, but it's a great playground! There are treasures in there!" said Eno all fired up.
They jumped from the wall, Lug landed on an old bed.
"Are you looking for anything in particular?" he then asked to Eno.
"No, most of the time I'm looking to figure out what the objects in here are for. For example, that little square cave with the rounded entrance, that must be a modern niche!"
Lug glanced at the object in question and laughed.
"Ahahah, no, it's a washing machine. You put your dirty laundry in it and the machine washes it."
Eno's eyes glowed.
"Sounds modern... Why don't you have this at home?"
In Lug's little house, there was no washing machine, he had to wash all his clothes by hand.
" Aaaah.... Mmmmh... Good question, let me see if that washer still works..."
Lug checked. All the cables were there, the machine looked old but still in good condition.
"I think I'll put this machine aside, I'm curious to see if it works..."
Eno looked pleased that the visit to the "treasure mountain" as he called it was already bearing fruit.
After putting aside the washing machine, Lug began to look more carefully at the pile of garbage.
After about ten minutes Eno shouted.
"Wooooaaaaaaaaaaah!"
Lug hurried to see what relic had just been discovered.
Eno was crouched down, facing a doll.
That doll was gloomy, there was not much hair left on its head and one of its eyes was popping out.
"Is this...everything?" said Lug in disappointment.

"No, Lug... You don't understand, this doll... It's alive, it talks!"
Eno looked at the doll intently, suddenly it began to shake and a few almost inaudible words came out of its mouth.
"Did you hear that? She's talking!"
Lug walked over to the doll, took it in his hands, pulled a string that was tied to its back and all of a sudden the doll began to speak with clarity.
"You are my best friend... Low battery, low battery..." she said.
There was a silence.
"Nice catch Eno, you have a new best friend" said Lug while doing a thumbs up.
Eno moved away from the doll, he didn't have much knowledge of new technologies, but he knew what a battery was.
"Let’s move on." he said disappointed.
"Ooooh, look Eno, a TV!" Lug had pulled a large cathode-ray TV out of an old garbage bag.
"A TV? What's that?"
"Hard to explain, let's say it's a mini theater? In a way..."
"It sounds interesting, what are you going to do with it?"
"I'm going to take it home to see if it works, it even has an antenna with it!"
Lug was happy, this little impromptu outing had allowed him to clear his mind and return home with some useful items.
He brought back the washing machine and the TV with a cart, when he came back in the house with it, Gavan was very surprised.
"Where is all this commotion coming from? What are those big boxes?" said Gavan indignantly.
"Gavan, listen, you'll see it's only good news. I'm bringing back a TV, it's like a window on the world, except that at night there are still things to see! And this will allow me to wash the clothes automatically, so you won't hear me complaining about scrubbing my clothes in the sink anymore! Isn't that great?"
Gavan looked suspicious, but Lug's speech had had an effect. He quickly calmed down and just watched the proceedings.

The Forgotten Hero
Long ago, in the world of Thyne, the Alliance of the Free Races, a name they had given themselves, summoned a hundred humans from another dimension. Praised as heroes by the people, they rejoiced that they had been able to acquire pure, mana deficient humans that wanted to aid them in their time of need, ignoring the black, archaic slave collars around their necks or the depressed, almost hate-filled expressions that they received when interacting with them. After Ten years of bloody war, the dark races were pushed back deep into their territories. Both sides were near breaking point and desperate to end the war once and for all. In a bargain, the twelve surviving heroes launched a high-risk mission, utilising advanced tactics from their home world to kill the Demon Lord. In exchange, they would be sent home, along with the magically preserved corpses of their comrades, though in truth, they knew that even if they returned, they would never be the same. Legends say that, upon ambushing the Demon Lord in his castle, they finally understood the plight of the world, and in the last act of heroism, sacrificed their lives, sealing him in an eternal prison so his essence would not be able to create another. With the loss of the Demon Lord, and no chance for another to be born, the dark races quickly surrendered and the free races celebrated, honouring the noble sacrifice of the heroes before quickly forgetting about them as they returned to their everyday lives. However, legends are rarely truthful, embellished by the victors in order to earn praise as well as hide the less desirable aspects of their deeds. Trapped in the Demon Lord's throne room inside the Demonic Palace, which even taking a single step on its desecrated grounds is punished by death, two figures remain motionless. They had long run out of insults and threats to trade and now they waited. For what, not even the Gods knew.
