《Modded Reality》Chapter 17 - Better Inventory

Wilton wakes up, exits his home, considers for a minute what he might do. That's when he sees a shimmering portal open up and the imposing and muscular body of the orc step through. He looks at his surroundings. His muscles tone, his skin like baked leather, and his tusks sharper than the boar Wilton had killed.

“Hello!” The halfling calls out.

The orc whirls around, raising his fists, ready to knock someone out. He looks down at the halfling with disdain and lowers his fists.

“My name was Wilton. What’s yours?” The halfling asks, trying to mask his fear.

“Lonzak, how long have you been here?” The orc asks as his muscles untense.

“A few days.” Wilton shrugs.

“Any evil forces that our creator has spoken about?” Lonzak asks.

“No, well, there is something out during the night time. It tried to break into my home.” Wilton says as he wrings his sweaty hands.

“Then that is either our enemy if our creator tells the truth, or they are an ally if our creator lies.” The orc walks forward to Wilton. “I need to discover the truth for myself. Will you help me?”

“Well, ugh, what do you need?” Wilton considers his words.

His distrust for the creator could be detrimental, but Wilton had never even considered for a moment that he was trusting blindly in someone he did not know. The halfling resolved himself to help the orc.

“I need a weapon and armor or anything to defend myself with.” The orc says.

“Alright, fine.” Wilton pops a stone ax into his hand startling the orc.

“Where did that…”

“Take it and imagine it disappearing.” Wilton cuts him off.

Lonzak takes the ax and it pops away into his inventory. Wilton then hands him the shield he had made. The orc takes it.

“I have a deer hide that I am tanning. I’ll make it into pants for you.” Wilton shrugs.

“You seem to have gotten on board rather quickly.” Lonzak seems surprised.

“Well whatever I give you, you either protect me with, or I take off your corpse come morning.” Wilton states flatly. “I’ve been doing my best just to survive. And you come in here wanting to fight. It’s hard to see that as a sound tactic right now.”

“I will fight, and I will win.” Lonzak nods to Wilton.

“I hope so.” The halfling sighs.

Wilton turns and heads back to the drying rack. The orc turns and looks over the grassy field, to the wooded land, and listens to the sounds of the babbling brook not too far from the burrow.
