Wilton took a walk through the forest, taking a look at the trees, and identifying birch, oak, and apple trees. He chopped down a birch tree with his handaxe. It took the better part of a day and left him drenched in sweat, but he did it. He cut the log up into sections and began bringing his gathered flint and stones to the stump.

He carved out on the stump a basic grid with a few archaic symbols around the grid. Symbols he had seen in the temple. He felt power in them. The symbols of a hammer, a saw, and an ax.

Placing a branch on the stump he fitted pieces of flint down the sides of it and tied it tightly together. He muttered a prayer for the blade to work before picking it up. It was a flint blade that he hoped would be of some use.

He took branches and began fashioning more tools. A mattock and a spear were the next things he could think of making. Finally he took a large piece of flint and smoothed it out, flattening it by carving away at it. He fastened it to a branch much like the spear, but this would be the perfect shovel.

Wilton picked up one of the sections of log that was as tall as him. He dragged it onto the stump, carved off most of it with the ax, and cut out a hole in the center of it just big enough to look through.

The halfling walked back to the fields, dragging his chunk of wood with him, and his tools bundled together in one hand.

At the fields he took a look around and went to the closest hill. He dug out a small passageway, a tunnel into the hill, just wide enough for the slab of wood to cover.

Wilton retrieved more of the sections of the tree he chopped down. Moving them under the hill he spaced them out as he dug to support different sections. He patted the earth under the hill, and moved the dirt he dug up outside. He planned on using it to build an extended tunnel, an entry hall to his hill.

Wilton moved all of his things inside and formed a stockpile of wood, branches, flint, and stone. As the sun set he continued to tie pieces of plant twin together to turn his loincloth into a skirt that covered his bare ass. He would have to work on making the legs later to make it into shorts or pants. Although he imagined these rudimentary clothes wouldn’t last long. He needed to find hemp or cotton.
