《Pokemon Oasis》10| Torchic Versus Piplup

Heath tried to find a nearby clearing and after an hour or two he found the perfect one. Shade encapsulated the cleared area but sun was still able to peek its head through making it the perfect environment for them to train. Piplup seemed to be hyped as he had never experienced training before.
"Piplup pip piplu" Piplup shouted with its leg pumped. Heath pumped his fist in the air and shouted in return.
"Yeeahhhh"
"Alright, Piplup, time to train. I suggest we stretch to make sure we properly warm up are muscles." Heath was no expert on training as even though he was fairly skinny back on earth, he knew it was only due to his high metabolism.
After they finished stretching, Heath moved on to running around the ovoid clearing which was around the size of a small kid's playground. Heath told Piplup that the key to a successful training is stamina, without stamina they have nothing. As such Heath and Piplup ran around for 2 hours before Heath called it quits but surprising Piplup kept going.
"Not as bad as I thought. This body seemed as fit as my body back on earth, but It seemed to be stronger than a human body." Heath noted. Heath decided to end Piplup's run early as he decided that They shouldn't overdo it for the first day. Heath directed Piplup to do sides jumps while he attempted to do the infamous Saitama's workout but he cut everything in half besides running which he would have a different strategy to explore. They both trained with Heath continuing to be surprised by their endurance. Soon after a small break, a number called him. Not knowing who it was, He answered
"Hello?" Heath asked suspiciously
"Hey, it's Max, I brought some food for the both of you but I can't find you guys." Max replied. Heath sent Piplup to grab Max and they soon all sat around the clearing. The scene depicted Piplup munching on Pokémon food happily, while Heath ate his sandwiches and Max looking towards the canopy.
"Nice training area you guys found. Seems nice and cozy" Max complimented.
"Yeah, Piplup was the one who discovered it. I was honestly just wandering around aimlessly." Heath said with food in his mouth. Max chuckled. Like last time the conversation seemed to be sparse between the munching on food from Piplup and Heath, which caused the situation to feel awkward even though Heath was enjoying the S-Tier sandwiches. Max cleared his throat suddenly which made Heath look up to the boy.
"So, do you remember anything from before? Do you miss your parents?" Max asked sincerely. Heath looked over to Piplup who was also curious. Heath paused coming up with a lie before speaking.
"Nah, the only things I remember is my time meeting Piplup and then waking in a forest. I know about pokémon, but somethings have escaped my memory. As far as my parents, no I-" Heath paused as a memory soon sprouted in his head. It was the time where Heath was back on earth, and he came home school with a black eye, a busted lip, and a broken nose. His siblings had set up a match between him and the school bullies and it soon came apparent that Heath was someone who didn't back down. Coming back to his house he had felt proud that they all ended up with worse injuries than he did. He went to tell his parents about what his sister, Madeline did but all he received was a jail sentence in an empty room for a week which was the duration of his suspension. Heath was quickly brought out of his memory by a warm heat. He looked at his lap where Piplup can be seen rubbing his face towards Heath's.

"I'm alright Piplup" Heath patted Piplup's ears before looking at Max who seemed like he made a terrible lapse of judgement, but before he could say anything he heard a ding.

'I got to check this out later' Heath smiled
"Sorry" Max said looking away from him.
"It's fine, I was just thinking about how I think it was for the best I don't know my parents. I don't miss what I can't remember" Heath replied. They both continued talking for a while but seeing the sun finishing its apex, they went back to the lab. The clearing wasn't too far from the Pokémon Lab once you knew your way so after a half hour, they entered the pokémon lab to see May who seemed to be bubbling up with anger, and Birch looked sorry. The father and daughter both look towards the boys walking in but when May noticed Heath she grunted with anger and left towards the back.
"Wait May!" Birch called out, but May just ignored him. He got up to follow her, but Heath decided to squash this.
"Let me talk to her professor" Heath requested. Birch looked hesitant but Max interjected.
"Dad, I know you think this will blow over but It's clearly not going too. I think Heath should go."
Birch still conflicted looked towards Heath trying to find something but Heath returned the gaze with a steely appearance. Birch let out an exasperated sigh before slumping back down to the chair without saying anything. Heath took this as a green light and went out back looking for May. After a couple of minutes with any luck he looked towards Piplup.
"Help me look for May, she doesn't seem to be anywhere obvious"
"ok" Piplup complied. Heath eyes widen in surprise as heard his pokémon speak to him. He remembered the new skill he acquired just earlier and smiled.
'So, I still here the pokémon say their name but it translates to English.' Heath noted. Piplup asked a couple of nearby pokémon where May was, and they happily gave him the answer.
"She's with the Torchic's" Piplup nodded as he said this and Heath returned it. They both went out to back of the facility and Heath quickly read the sign that said 'Section D' before opening up the gate. They entered and a Mudkip came up to Piplup.
"Piplup, Piplup wanna go play?" Mudkip asked. Heath noticed that the Mudkip sounded younger and slightly different than Piplup, before suggesting Piplup that he should go play. He promised that he would be fine. Piplup and Mudkip quickly went off on their own and Heath went to where the Torchics were. There weren't many Torchic as compared to Treecko and Mudkip and he assumed this was because Torchic was just the more popular of the three starters. He looked inside a coop and inside was May with a Torchic who seemed to be comforting her. She immediately looked up at Heath and ignored his presence.
"Leave me alone Heath" May asked, she sounded like she had been crying but Heath did not stop his advances. He sat that across from May which alerted Torchic who stood in between them. The Torchic immediately went on guard trying to protect the professor's daughter.
"Go away"
"See Torchic doesn't want you hear either" May said as she sounded defeated.
"Yeah, go away" The Torchic squawked. Obviously, Heath still ignored their pleas for him to leave. Heath made no attempt to start a conversation, they all sat there with an occasional squawk from Torchic. May soon calmed down but when she looked at Heath she immediately seemed pissed off once more.

"God, you're annoying" May spat. Heath laid his head on his palm and looked at the girl. If she wasn't so mad all of the time, Heath would've immediately thought of her as a charmer. She was cute, as cute as the anime version of her if not more but seeing this raging lunatic Heath couldn't help but sigh which ended up pissing her off even more.
'I've seen enough, I don't think she is necessarily mad at me, but I won't know without finding out' Heath, during the process of ignoring her tackled the issue of what approach would be best for the situation and figured out an approach that might actually be fun for him.
"May let's battle" Heath requested. Out of nowhere two chimes were heard. Heath looked at his C-Gear and saw that their names appeared as it read.
'Battle Request: Waiting for opposing trainer'
May pulled out a PokéGear that looked like a walkie-Talkie/Phones and thought she might be seeing a similar thing from her side. May looked at him with a curious expression.
"Why do you want to battle?"
"Cause you need to blow off steam, and here's the deal. If you win, I'll leave you alone." Heath offered.
"What do you want if you win then?" May kept her gaze on him.
"We talk about why you are so annoyed"
May appeared to think about it for a while.
"If I win, you leave me alone and I get 200 Pokédollars" May rebutted.
"I accept. Let's go" Heath got up without trying to haggle her to accept without the money and left the coop looking area. He went over towards the Mudkips area, and in an isolated area, Heath found Piplup, and Mudkip playing.
"Piplup, you up for a battle?" Heath asked.
"Yessss, Mudkip watch your big brother battle hehehe" Piplup seemed to laugh.
"You're not my big brother, but fine I'll watch you lose loser" Mudkip teased. They both followed, and Heath thought nothing of Piplup's behavior as he heard the two joking around. Heath heard another chime and saw that May had accepted the battle as a spar. He walked towards the lab, and saw May, Max, and their father talking at each other. Birch was the first to take in Heath's appearance.
"Heath, you don't need to do this." Birch said
"I know, but I figured this would be a good time to see if I'm a decent trainer."
"Dad, c'mon. referee this battle" May whined with a Torchic in her grasp. Birch pinched his nose, but after a second of what appeared to be thinking, he nodded.
"Alright c'mon" Birch led the way to the town's park that Heath had yet to visit, and it held a decently large pokémon arena. It was the size of large basketball court and soon it was occupied. Heath took one side while May took the other with Max and his father towards the middle and out of the way.
"Did you already form a battle?" Birch asked. They both nodded and he continued.
"Do you both know the rules to this spar?" Birch looked at Heath first and he shyly shook his head.
"Okay it's simple. 4 moves only, no killing, no intentional injuries, no use of items, and if your pokémon goes out of bounce. The match to over" Birch summed up. Heath nodded signaling that he acknowledged the rules.
'So pokémon battles still only have four moves. Okay' Heath thought.
"This battle is a 1v1 since both only have one pokémon. Send them out" Birch commanded. Heath looked at Piplup who seemed to be overwhelmed with anticipation.
"Piplup, we are still going with the Hit and Run tactics, okay?"
"Ugh fine. We will win this!!!" Piplup said with a determined face. Heath smiled, but then realized that he probably shouldn't let this be his downfall.
"Piplup, calm down. I'm glad you wanna battle but if we wanna win we need to be smart." Heath tried to direct Piplup, but Piplup stayed quiet.
"Piplup, let's do this" Heath pointed towards May and her Torchic who was already in the arena. Piplup took a jump forward. Birch looked at Heath before looking at his daughter, and his face grew serious.
"Okay let this battle commence" Birch ordered. Heath was the quickest to draw.
"Piplup, dash and use a water gun"
Piplup sped off and quickly reached the halfway point as it became closer to Torchic to which May finally ordered.
"Torch, use Sand attack and then run away. Don't let Piplup hit you"
The Torchic stood its ground as Piplup ran at it, and as soon as Piplup was within striking distance, he jumps and spit water at Torchic who launched itself to the side to avoid the water bullets coming towards it. Piplup landed and sprinted towards it but came screeching to a halt and as soon as it did Heath ordered.
"Piplup dodge quickly"
Piplup tried to but Torchic was faster than him by a large margin. Torchic kicked up a bunch of dust which invaded Piplup's sight and caused his eyes to slam shut.
"Piplup quick use pound, Torchic is right in in front of you" redirected Piplup, but May wasn't having it.
"Torchic back up and start charging Flame Charge."
Piplup immediately to try to hit the Torchic who Heath said was in front of it, but Torchic was already gone. Torchic started lighting ablaze, and a brilliant flame seemed to be concentrated at around it. The dust started clearing in Piplup's eyes, and soon it stood at standby for Heath's next order.
"Piplup, Charge Water Gun and wait for my order to go"
At this point Piplup was smack in the middle of the arena while Torchic was in front of May. They both charged their attacks but Torchic immediately started running towards the blue penguin. It was way quicker than Heath expected but he still waited. Even as Torchic was quickly approaching Piplup, Heath waited until he saw the smallest mistake in its pace. Immediately Heath pointed.
"Piplup Water Gun. Now!!!"
Piplup ran leaving dust in its wake and both parties' attacks clashed, making an impact that led to a small shockwave being created between them that even Heath could feel from far away. Torchic evaporated Piplups water gun but smacking Piplup. Heath felt his heart sink into his gut and in that instance two entities flew. One to the floor of the arena while the other directly hitting Heath.
Oomph. Heath felt a huge weight hit his stomach sending him back rolling on the floor. After a few rolls, and feeling unharmed, he looked at what hit him, and saw Piplup who looked furious.
"Piplup, you, okay?" Heath asked, slightly worried.
"I'm fine, I just couldn't stop." Piplup said.
Heath looked up, and saw Birch looking at him, but coming out of his stunned position. He walked towards the middle.
"Battle is over, May won" Birch announced. Heath looked and saw the Torchic getting up, he could tell it was slightly dazed, but it to remained fine. Heath used his observe skill on the Torchic

8 205The Tears of Kas̆dael
It was just supposed to be a game. A really, really great game, yes - but a game. Instead, Jasper got his heart ripped out by a brooding goddess and awoke to find himself in another world. No weapons, no skills. Naked. Trapped in a world full of ancient horrors, where gods and monsters still roam the earth, Jasper is forced to adapt quickly or die - and he's not ready to die. Good thing he's a mage. This is a high-fantasy novel with light LitRPG elements. It's not super-crunchy, but the system is an important part of the story. There is some light cursing and gore, but this is not a Grimdark novel. There will also be no harem. The current schedule is chapters on M-W-F of around 2000-2500 words, as well as occasional bonus chapters that provide background or insights into side characters. This is my first real attempt at writing a full novel, but the story is based on a world that I've been creating and re-creating since I was a child. I have an extensive "history" and religion, and even a semi-cohesive language system worked out, which will hopefully slowly shine through as the story progresses. I want to avoid having too many info-dumps, so I may from time to time post a bonus lore chapter that will explain some of the background for any who are interested.
