《The Faceless Minion》Chapter 23 - Storming the Castle

The helicopters touched down on the mountain slope. Londyn disembarked, heroes stepping off helicopters or landing from the sky around her. She took out her binoculars.
Black stone pierced the sky. The castle was vaguely triangular, with sharp black spires reaching up like a nest of spears. Every angle looked as sharp as a blade, and not a hint of light reflected from the sides. The base was surrounded by a wall covered in spikes and bones.
Around the castle patrolled several sauropods, dozens of theropods, triceratops, and other medium sized dinosaurs, along with countless raptors. Squadrons of pterodactyls patrolled the skies, countless more waiting in roosts among the spires. Londyn grimaced.
Well, this was never going to be easy.
Captain Hot Devil walked up beside her.
“Do you have a plan?”
Londyn shrugged.
“I’m not a tactician. And I sure as hell don’t know the proper way to engage dinosaur zombies.”
“Fair enough.”
“Be my guest if you have a suggestion.”
“...I normally just punch things.”
“You’ll get your chance.”
Captain Hot Devil let his shoulders drop for a second.
“You think they can do it?”
“The kids?”
“Yea.”
“Of course.”
“Why?”
Londyn frowned.
“Because we need them to.”
She turned to the device on her wrist. A green light began to blink. She put her binoculars away and hoisted her grav-cannon.
“Let’s get started.”
High in the sky five people rode on two flying dinosaurs. One had a faint green outline, carrying a woman with horns and a boy in a blue cape. The other, with a faint purple glow, with a boy in robes, and two girls, one pink and the other yellow and blue.
“We’re here!”
“Looks like it.”
“When do we go?”
“Director said she’d give us a signal.”
“What kind of signal?”
“She didn’t say.”
“Bro! She didn’t say?! How are we supposed to…”
The team heard a high pitched whine screeching through the air.
Suddenly a black sphere appeared in front of the castle’s gates. The team could see the figures of dinosaurs being pulled into the singularity. The two gate towers began to collapse inwards and vanished.
“That answer your question?”
“Let’s go!”
The two fliers began to drop, aiming for the tallest spire. Faster and faster they dropped until the spire was in front of them. Then the fliers spread their wings and flapped until they came to a stop.

“How do we get inside?”
“Grab on!”
Dragontooth leapt from her flier, cracks forming on the wall around her fingers. Wonder knight followed suit. Once the two were clear the green glow faded from the dinosaur, which fell lifelessly from the sky. The Gentle Gloom let out a yawn and slowly floated towards the wall.
And bounced off with a zap.
“Ouch…bother…dark magic flowing through the walls.”
“Void, can you drain it?”
“Not while flying!”
Chronolock and Pink Star nodded at each other and then at Wonder Knight and Dragontooth, who nodded back. The two girls leapt from the flier, landing on the backs of the other heroes. Voidspeaker let his flier dropped, floating towards the wall on his own power.
“Experience nothingness.”
A small beam hit the wall, forming a circle of black. The Gentle Gloom floated through, shivering as he passed through the beam.
A minute later a section of the wall slid up, revealing a window.
Londyn glanced at her wrist. Green light flashed once more.
“At least something’s going well.”
She ducked as a pterodactyl swooped down over head. Once it passed she lifted her grav-cannon and fired a small purple bolt. The pterodactyl cried as a purple mist covered its wing, chaotic and opposing forces ripping the wing to shreds.
All around her were snapping teeth and gripping claws. Blasts of light shone about, gunshots rang out. Bestial roars and mighty shouts. Dripping blood and rotting flesh.
A flight of pterodactyls approached from above. Gunshots rang out, Agent Tina holding her pistols. Beside her stood a man in a gray coat, a gray broad brimmed hat, and a gray mask. Gray Slayer fired his mighty magnum with a thunderous roar. The flyers dropped from the sky one by one. A Tyrannosaurus roared, but was halted as the Majestic Moth filled its vision with sparkling dust. A ball of feathers the size of rhino slammed into its head as Master Mammoth Owl sent the beast howling down the mountain.
The earth rumbled as a wall of triceratops charged across the battlefield. Aqua Mage spun her rod and pointed it towards them, a stream of water dousing each of the beasts. Then Tesla Titan thrust his arm forward, lightning following the stream. Each of the triceratops crashed to the ground, burnt and smoking. Mr. Dapper Tiger stood back to back with a man in a beautiful samurai kimono and a black ponytail. Slashes rang out from the tigers claws and the golden blade as Master Elegant Katana showcased his name.

Londyn started to charge another gravity bomb when something landed on top of her. A raptor, flanking from behind her. She twisted and struggled, hands holding snapping jaws mere inches away from her fast.
A burning fist passed by her face.
A burning fist she remembered.
It punched clean through leathery skin as easily as it did wooden walls.
A blast of fire blew away bone and claw as easily as tables and doors.
Captain Hot Devil stood over her once more.
And he extended his hand.
She grabbed it and stood to her feet.
“Are you ok?”
“Fine, thanks.”
He looked into her eyes.
She saw concern and relief in his.
She picked up her grav-cannon, aiming it at an approaching sauropod.
“No time to rest.”
The fight went on.
The infiltration team ran down the dark halls. Black stone with purple carpets. Hallways lit by torches of bones, eerie blue flames resting in reptilian skulls. Black and green beams shot out on occasion, silencing patrolling raptors.
The team made good time, virtually unopposed, until they came to two massive doors. They looked around and everyone nodded. Wonder Knight and Dragontooth stood in front of each door, one hand on it. The other four members split to either side of the door.
Dragontooth held up her fingers, silently counting down. The two heroes pushed the doors inward with creak.
Inside was a large circular room with a tall ceiling. It had no adornment or furnishing besides torches on the walls, not even a carpet. But that was no matter, as the object in the center of the room demanded all attention.
A skeletal being, devoid of all flesh, a pale white almost glowing under the blue torchlight. A long thin tail ending in a wicked barb. Four pairs of legs, tipped with gleaming claws. A long, agile neck. A massive set of jaws with rows of razor sharp teeth. Horns curled back from its skull. Glowing purple flames where once were eyes.
Dragontooth grit her teeth and pounded her palm with her fist.
“He’s dead. He’s so dead!”
And a pair of massive, bony wings.
There stood the skeletal dragon.
“Bothersome…”
“Bro, I thought it was only dinosaurs! That’s cheating!”
Wonder Knight’s eyes widened as the skeletal beast threw back its neck. The bones on its neck began to glow purple.
“You got to be kidding me. EVERYBODY MOVE!”
Everyone scattered as purple flames filled the air.
“Experience nothingness!”
“Please stop…”
Two heroes floated into the air above the flames and stretched out their hands.
Two beams, one black as night, the other green with black spots, shot into the dragon’s head.
The dragon kept moving.
“What the heck? What’s going on Void?”
“Stop messing around and drain that thing!”
“I’m trying! It’s resisting me!”
“What does that mean?!”
Voidspeaker opened his mouth to answer when his eyes widened. The dragon spun around, lashing out its tail.
“Oh bother.”
Voidspeaker and Gentle Gloom flew through the air and slammed into the wall.
“GRAAAAHHH!!!!”
Dragontooth leapt through the air, latching to the dragon’s left shoulder with both arms. She planted both feet on the ground and then pulled. There was a terrible creaking sound. The dragon roared and leapt to the side, slamming itself into the wall.
Dragontooth fell to the ground.
The dragon moved to bite her when it was knocked to the side. A pink triceratops smashed into it, driving it towards the wall. Wonder Knight ran over and pulled Dragontooth to her feet.
“What do we do?! Our big guns are out!”
Dragontooth’s face twisted into a snarl.
“What do you think, kid?! We hit it!”
“That's not a plan! What if it won't go down to fists?!”
“Then we keep hitting it until it does!”
With that, Dragontooth pushed off the floor and leapt into the air.
Wonder Knight looked back at his team. Pink Star gave a shrug while Chronolock was holding her head.
“She’s the veteran. Chrono, protect the two until they wake up! Pink, let’s make sure Dragontooth doesn’t die!”
“Okay!”
“On it.”
The battle raged on.

The Magitons
Book 3 of the Universe Series This novel continues the adventure from the previous novel, Ocean of Dreams. Each novel is meant to stand alone. Widhbo ( pronounced "wee bow") is a MC who will be in each of the six novels in the main series. The starship Sora had been hurtling through space using its FTL propulsion system toward the Dezba star system for over a decade since leaving the planet Beldora of the Hellsaxe system. The Sora had crash landed on Beldora over a century earlier carrying a couple of aliens from another dimension. The ship came from the Borrugal Realm, a band world associated with what was known as the Tor Galaxy, what we call the Milky Way. Human life on Beldora was never the same. Under the influence of the alien known as Widhbo, Beldora was catapulted from the steam age to the space age. The majority of the scientific advances on Beldora were attributed to the leadership of a brilliant man, Jejliard Castonea, who was secretly manipulated by the alien, Widhbo. When rapid advances in technology inadvertently led to a nuclear war, Jejliard decided to evacuate his family, friends and co-workers on the Sora. The plan was to find a new habitable planet and rebuild civilization until they could safely return home. Much to his despair, Jejliard’s family and friends opted to stay on Beldora to ride out the war underground. Even the other alien, Gengor, stayed behind. Borrowing technology stored in the archives of the Sora, Widhbo managed to transfer the personalities of those staying on the planet into digital storage units known as magitons which could survive indefinitely in cold, sterile space. Living crew members who elected to stay on board the Sora were also uploaded to ensure immortality for everyone in case their life support systems failed en route. Widhbo sought to design a cyber paradise for everyone inside their virtual worlds, but things never go as planned where Widhbo is concerned.
