《Freshman Year》Chapter Two

"Okay Piper, it's Drama class. You're in your safe zone," I told myself as I sat down. Even though I had my heart set on being a doctor, I dabbled in acting. And I wasn't half bad at acting. I looked around, noticing that there were only about ten other people in the class.

I looked up just as a boy walked in. He had messy brown hair and a smile that could break hearts. I couldn't help but stare. He sat down next to a group of three other boys. I sighed. He wasn't gonna notice me. And if he did, like with every other boy, it would be in a friend kinda way.

"Hey Class. Who's ready for a great semester," the teacher said. He was a man in his mid forties. He had gray hair that was balding. He seemed very enthusiastic.

"Hell yeah, Mr. R," a girl with a nose ring and purple hair yelled. I expected him to yell at her but he just laughed.

"Well today. We're gonna do some improv." He grabbed his clipboard. "Here are your groups. Maddie and Ashley. Gabe and Iris. Michel and Collin. Grace and Libby. Sophie and Karen. Dylan and Piper. Now find your partners."

Since I didn't know who anyone was - they all seemed older than me - I waited patiently for my partner to find me. That brown haired boy found me. "Since you're the only one in this class I don't know, I'm guessing you're Piper," he said smirking. I stood up.

And because when I get nervous I talk with my hands, I began to flinging my hands every which way. "And guessing you're Dylan because if you weren't this would be really weird and awkward." I stopped myself. Forcing my hands to my side, I said, "Yes I'm Piper."

"Well, Piper, it's nice to meet you." I looked around. Why were people being so nice. He seemed to think it was funny that I was weird. I could tell by the gleam in his eyes, which I now notice were a deep blue. I'd always had a thing for blue eyes. This was not good.

"Well everyone, lets get started," the teacher - I mean Mr. R said.

We watched all five groups go before us. Then we were up. "Place and occupation?" the teacher urged.

The same girl as before sat back in her seat. "London. You two are ex-lovers," she suggested.

"Lovers?" I asked, looking at her.

"Lovers," she responded.

I took a deep breath as Dylan walked to the other side of he room. "Piper? Piper is that you?" he asked.

I turned around and gasped. "Dylan? How?" I grabbed his shoulders. "I haven't seen you in years."

"And you. Well you look just as beautiful as ever." I couldn't help but blush.

"What brings you to London?" I asked.

"Well back when you left for school here you always talked about the beauty of it. Though you are the prettiest thing I've seen yet in this city." Okay, he's trying to make me blush. I looked away, trying to hide my smile.

"Well, that's very sweet of you."

"It's not sweet if it's a fact."

The teacher jumped out of chair. "And cut!" he shouted. But Dylan and I still stared at each other with unreadable expressions on our faces. I felt like I'd get lost in his eyes and never escape. I smiled and shook my head to clear my thoughts. Mr. R came up to us. "You two were incredible. It was like you were really in love with each other."

"Thanks," I said.

"Yeah," Dylan said, though he was still looking at me. A smirk was now on his face. The bell rang signaling the end of class. I walked to the desk and grabbed my books. Before I could walk out the door something touched my shoulder. I turned. It was Dylan.

"Hey," he said as he shoved his hand in his pockets.

"Um, hi?" I responded, my eyebrow raising in confusion.

"I was wondering, do you happen to be single?" I blushed and smiled. I turned my head to the floor so he wouldn't see.

"Why?"

I could hear the smirk in his voice. "Well I wondered if you were free this Saturday?"

My head shot up. "Like, a date?"

"No," he responded.

I looked away, embarrassed. "Oh..."

"It's not like a date. It is a date."

I laughed and couldn't help but smile. "Oh. Well then yes. I am free."

"Cool. Meet me at the mall. Around seven."

"We could see the new Star Wars movie!" I exclaimed a little too excitedly. I clamped my hand over my mouth. Dylan just laughed.

"A girl who likes Star Wars is a girl after my own heart."

Sam walked in so we could walk to our next class together. "Hey Dylan," she said with a voice sickly sweet.

"Sam," he responded, his voice sounding annoyed. He smiled at me before leaving.

We walked out of the class together. "Ugh, he is so cute. I'm gonna be his girlfriend before the month is over. What were you talking about?" she said.

My mouth went dry. She liked Dylan. That meant that I couldn't date him. "We got assigned together in class that's all."

"Okay good." Sam stopped walking. "'Cause I call dibs."

I shook my head. "You always say that you don't believe in calling dibs."

"Yeah, but it's Dylan."

"Hey Piper," Kim said as she walked up to me. "I heard you're going out with Dylan. Good for you."

My mouth fell open and my heart started to race. "That's not going around, is it?" I asked.

"Well yeah. Dylan's a star on the basketball team and he's really popular."

"Shoot," I said, gritting my teath.

"Why? I know him pretty well he seems to really like you."

"Kim," I tried to explain, "my best friend likes him and told me to stay away from him."

"But shouldn't he choose who he wants to date?"

"Well. I don't know. Stop confusing me."
