《Breath of Life | LoZBoTW》Divine Beast Vah Medoh

There was still a bit of unsureness amongst the two as they traveled to Rito Village. Although their problems with each other seemed solved, they weren't. Nothing would change the way Emery felt about herself. It was up to her to find it within to forgive. It was a fact that no matter what she believed, she wasn't a failure. Still, there was no way anyone but herself could change her feelings. That was the way it worked for everybody.
Link, on the other hand, was confused. They hadn't spoken much on their long journey to the Tabantha Region. He was deep in thought. Were these feelings towards Emery really love? Was he really falling for her? He caught himself admiring her often, and now that he thought about it he always had an attraction towards her. He couldn't think of another girl he'd met that was more glorious. She truly was a Goddess, a beauty beyond words. There was no other way to describe her, at least in his eyes. She was truly heartfelt, and meant the best even if she'd done the worst. She'd put everyone else's life before her own, and he knew she may be the most courageous person he knew. Everything about her was everything he admired in someone. Her way to soothe people, to talk to people. Not to mention her voice; It was soft and warm, yet still forceful. She was easily a very comforting person, but she always stood her ground.
In Emery's eyes, Link was the most gorgeous boy she'd ever seen. His hair was a lovely golden blonde, and his bright blue eyes shined with passion. She felt at home when she was with him, at home being the most comforting place on Earth. His warmth was like nothing she'd ever felt. Plus the fact that he cared about her like no one else had before. When she grew up, she grasped the concept that she'd lost everyone in her life before she knew them. That made her think she'd never be loved by someone, and the gaping hole in her heart would forever be empty. Somehow, being with Link and growing to know the people around the world filled that hole. She felt complete when by his side and fighting off monsters to protect the people of the world. Even if she inevitably felt like a failure when it came to certain things, she still knew she did some good in the world.
Eventually, they arrived to Rito Village. They put Epona away and then ventured into the small town. The sights were beautiful. All the birds flying around in peace. It was a lovely town. Still, the eerie sight of the untamed Vah Medoh flew just over top of them, threatening their village at any moment. They walked up the many steps, meeting many different Rito's. Not to mention a few travelers at that.
"Two Hylians? What a sight! And a beautiful one, at that!" The boy added, shooting Emery a flirtatious smile. Link hid a glare from behind Emery.
"Thank you," She smiled graciously. "What's your name?"
"Harris, it's a pleasure to meet you, gorgeous." He took her hand and kissed the top of it. She wasn't keen of the gesture, but at least she was making friends. "And yours?"
"Emery," She replied, bowing her head slightly to him. His eyes widened and his lips turned up into a bright smile.
"Emery! As in Lady Emery!?" He questioned. She hesitated before nodding. "Well, it's truly an honor to be in your presence."

"Uh, thank you." She said, wondering if she was going to get anything out of this conversation at all, other than the praise she deserved. Not that she would ever believe she deserved it. Honestly, she couldn't believe someone was actually showing this kind of interest in her.
"Say, do you think we could get away? Just the two of us? Maybe, you'd go out with me?" He asked her with a hopeful gleam in his eyes. He looked her straight in the eyes, and before she had the chance to reply-
"Not a chance." Link stepped in, narrowing his eyes at the boy. He had just about enough of what the boy was selling. He couldn't stand someone other than himself showing Emery that kind of affection. Even if he wasn't showing her that type of affection now... No one else got to if he didn't. Besides, now wasn't the time.
"Link!" Emery scolded as he dragged her off by her arm. She jerked away from him, planting her feet in her tracks. He stopped when he noticed she had.
"What?" He replied, a tone of attitude in his voice.
"How could you be so rude?" She crossed her arms over her chest.
"I was just getting you out of a situation I know you didn't want to be in." He replied, as if he were doing her a favor.
"How do you know that?" She retorted, but in reality he was right. She would much rather be with him, but she'd never get that lucky.
"Fine, sorry I bothered." He replied, and continued up the trail. She gave him a look in the back of his head that shot icy daggers at him. She let out a huff as she stomped after him. Something had obviously gotten his tidy-whitey's in a twist today.
They came across the old Rito and began speaking to him, where he informed them of Medoh's current state. Then, he let them know of the location of Teba, who desperately wanted to rid the skies of Medoh forever. The two raced to get to him before he acted as drastically as said. Upon arrival, he concluded that Emery must pass a test of flight before he'd even consider letting her assist him with taking the beast down. Or before letting she and Link board it. She gladly agreed, and passed the test with flying colors. It was simple for her, hitting all the targets in one go. Even though she was only requested to hit five. Link once again found himself admiring her. He knew now he must focus on the greater things here, so someone didn't end up hurt.
Seeing Emery's performance, Teba gladly accepted their assistance. "I'd be glad to have you on board." He said to them both. "Here, take these bomb arrows, although I don't think you'll be needing extra."
"Thank you." Emery nodded graciously. He nodded back. From there, he took them up into the sky. Link would remain on his back to defend them, while Emery performed her task.
"Alright, here's the plan." Teba began, and they listened closely. "Medoh has it's barrier up again, which means it's impenetrable. You see those cannons on the ends? I'll draw their fire which will make it vulnerable and then you blow them off with your arrows, Emery."
"Got it." She replied.
"Alright, it's showtime." He flew straight for the cannon. Once they got close enough, she flew up. He drew the fire from her, distracting it. She took her chance and shot it straight on. She wouldn't make the mistake of not focusing on her shots this time. Link was going to be fine if she just fulfilled her duty. Easily enough, she got all four of the cannons and Medoh let down it's barrier. She quickly glided down to the entrance, waiting on Link. He hopped off Teba and onto the platform. "Unfortunately, I don't think I'll make this battle." He gestured to his wounded leg. She instantly looked to Link to make sure he was okay. He seemed fine, but still she felt bad. Was this her fault? "Do you think you two can handle it on your own?"

Link nodded, and Teba was off, leaving them alone. They quickly boarded Medoh before it was too late. When they stepped inside, they heard Revali's voice. "Well, if it isn't Little Link. Thankfully you have Emery with you this time, but even with the two of you, will you succeed? You'll need a map of the place if you want to take back Medoh."
"What's with him?" She muttered to Link.
"I remember him now." He replied. "He was never fond of me. He didn't like that I was chosen to be the appointed knight, he always felt as if it should've been him. He never believed in me because of that."
She frowned as Link pushed past her, heading towards one of the terminals. That was a lot like how she was towards him when she met him. She felt she should've been the chosen hero instead of him. Now, he was beginning to think Emery never believed in him to begin with. Just like Revali. "Link-"
"We have bigger things to deal with right now, Emery. Don't forget to focus on the task at hand." He replied harshly. He really was in a bad mood today. She sighed, but he was right. She needed to focus if they wanted to make it out of here alive. She couldn't let anything happen to him...
After getting the map, they discovered they could rotate Medoh's wings to help them solve the puzzles. Getting all the terminals was easy, and now came the tricky part. The main control unit. "Well, maybe you can win this after all. Go to the main control unit to take back Medoh. Don't forget to stay on your game."
That was their usual warning. She wondered what they would face this time. She was going to fight her hardest, this was their last step away from fighting Calamity Ganon and saving Hyrule once and for all. Link placed his Sheikah Slate to the main control unit, and as expected- it didn't work. He pulled back, and each of them readied themselves to fight. Windblight Ganon wouldn't stand a chance with each of them. She stood back, using her supply of bomb arrows to stun the creature while Link got close to swing many hits on him. They continued that until the creature started to teleport away. It was on the brink of death, and this was it's last attempts at winning. Emery missed her shot as it teleported last minute. As she stood back, she saw where it had went. Behind Link, and he didn't see what was coming for him. It began to charge an attack, but but it was too late for her to use her arrows. She ran as fast as she could. "Link! Watch out!" But before he could move out of the way, she blocked the massive hit it had been preparing for.
She collapsed onto the ground, blood flowing out of her. Link didn't see her fall, and quickly swung at the monster, giving it it's final blow. It cried out in terrible pain. The screeches were horrific. Emery could hear it slightly as she drifted in and out of consciousness. That meant Link had succeeded. She'd done the right thing. He was more important in this fight than she. After all, he wielded the sword that sealed the darkness. Even if he didn't have it right now.
Link looked around for Emery after the fight was over. He began to get worried when they didn't group up immediately after. The fog made it hard for him to see around, but after a minute of looking he spotted her body on the ground. His heart sunk, and he dashed over to her. He gently lifted her up, and she wasn't breathing. This couldn't be happening. "Emery," He shook her quickly. Nothing. He spoke more forcefully. "Emery."
Nothing. No breathing, her eyes weren't opening. He glanced down, seeing the gaping wound in her thigh. This was bad, there were too many vital arteries there. He began to call out to Mipha's spirit. She appeared next to him, frowning at Emery's lifeless body. "Y-you have to do something!"
"Link, I don't know what I can do, she's already dead." She said in a gentle, saddening voice.
"You have to do something, Mipha. Anything!" He begged her. She chewed her lip as she knelt down next to her. She glanced up at Link, letting a small sigh escape her lips. She hated seeing him this way. She knew they were in love. Even if it hurt that Link never loved her the way she did, she knew they were meant to be. Besides, if Link was happy, she was happy. He watched as she attempted to heal her. She exhausted all her powers, but not much was done towards her recovery. She frowned sadly at Link before vanishing, knowing she was of no use to him anymore.
She was now breathing, but not very efficiently. She was still bleeding in large amounts, and her wound was in no way better than it was before. Mipha had simply brought her back to life, but for that Link would be forever thankful. She didn't have much time now. He had to hurry and take back Medoh, then get her somewhere with help. He gently laid her down and rushed over to the control unit. There, he took back Medoh and Revali bestowed upon him: Revali's Gale. "It seems even you can't protect the ones you truly love."
Link glared at him, but before he could even think about doing anything, he and Emery were teleported out of Medoh. He picked her up into his arms as Medoh took it's place on it's perch. The last powerful red beam shot off directly at Hyrule Castle. Calamity Ganon was now ready to be fought, but that wasn't even one of Link's concerns. He was rushing to Epona. He laid Emery on top before getting on himself. He held her with one arm while he used his other to control Epona's direction. Her breathing was beginning to slow. How did this happen? And on his watch, too? How was he going to save her now?

Shades of the Moon
I'm rewriting this story! I have taken down Arc 2 and Arc 3 already to avoid spoiling my new novel. The only reason I'm keeping the first 10 chapters is nostalgia; the writing is awkward and the story is not plotted out properly, but it's here if anyone wants to compare it to the new one. If you'd like to read a more professionally written version of this story, I highly suggest checking out my Synergy. Synopsis version too-many-to-count: “I see,” Kiona said. “But . . . you’re changing once again, aren’t you?” The entity considered her question, lifting a clawed hand towards the night sky. They observed the back of their hand idly, watching the glowing orange veins pulse alongside their pitch-black exoskeleton. The wind picked up right then, and Kiona shivered—just as much from the cold as from the savage grin on the creature's face. “That’s right,” the entity said, clenching their hand slowly into a fist. They let out a quiet laugh, staring defiantly at the Moon as it rose from behind the clouds. “We are shades, yet not exactly. Not like the others. Here, in this world, we've become something more. We are the Shades of the Moon.” There was a heartbeat of silence, during which Kiona joined the entity in their skygazing. The light-green Moon loomed over the city, shining like the entity's eyes. It promised otherworldly knowledge and terrible secrets. It promised progress. It promised change. In that moment, Kiona couldn't have imagined anything more beautiful. “Shades of the Moon, huh?” she said, smiling a bit. It had a nice ring to it.
