《Breath of Life | LoZBoTW》Unlovable

Rudania crawled up to the top of Death Mountain and took it's place. They felt the earth shake as he shot off a bright red beam to the center peak of Hyrule castle. Yunobo saw Daruk, who raised his fist to the sky when he saw him. Yunobo grinned and waved until his hand ached. "What was he talking about?" Link asked instantly.
"What do you mean?"
"My sword? What sword?" He asked. She was confused. How could he not remember?
"Do you really not know?" Her face was surprised.
"No, I don't. You have to tell me-"
"The Master Sword, Link. The sword that seals the darkness." She replied.
Emery helped Link walk back to Epona. She helped him on, then took his normal place in the front. She rushed Epona out of Goron City, but she had no where to go after that. He held onto her waist tightly. She was in a hurry, that's for sure.
"I was waiting to tell you," He said into her ear. "I bought that house, to make you not upset at me anymore."
She let out a huff as she jerked Epona into the direction of Hateno Village. "I'm not mad at you, Link."
"Then why are you acting like that?" He asked with an agitated sigh.
"Like what?" She replied, but she knew.
"Just forget I said anything." He muttered. She chewed her lip. She must've really hurt his feelings, because he was pushing her away now, too. He was done trying with her, and it was her fault. Maybe if she wasn't so complicated and frustrating, she'd be lovable. If she didn't have baggage, she'd be lovable. Most of all, if she wasn't her she'd be lovable. There was nothing lovable about her, and this was why she couldn't get attached to anyone. What she was planning would be for the best.
She helped him into the house, his house now. She laid him on the bed, and pulled his bag away from him. She pulled the sewing kit out of his bag. She helped him pull off his bloody tunic, revealing a deep gash straight across his stomach. She quickly looked away, bringing her hand up to her mouth. Tears filled her eyes, falling quickly down her cheeks. She did that to him. If she hadn't messed up, then he would still be okay. He almost died because of her. She was careless, letting her big head get in the way. She told herself she couldn't miss, and she did. This was all her fault.
"Emery?" His frail voice brought her out of her thoughts. "If you can't do it, I can."
"I can do it." She rushed out, wiping her face of the tears. She had to be strong and hold them back. She was so upset with herself for being a failure. Why couldn't she just prove herself wrong? Why couldn't she do something right for once? Instead, she let him almost die on her watch. It was all her fault, those words continuously ran through her head. Over and over. When she turned back around, Link noticed her eyes were all red and puffy. Why had she been crying? She began to stitch up his wound, it took a while. It was so big and wide, she didn't know if she was going to be able to or not. Eventually, she finished it, tying the ends together to pull it closed. She wondered how he'd gotten through that so well. She looked around at his bare body, seeing just how many scars were on him. They were everywhere, littering his sides and his stomach. This definitely wasn't the first awful wound he'd received. She placed her finger over an extremely wide, purple scar. He wondered what she could possibly be doing. "Link..."

"It's okay," He said.
"No it isn't." She replied, bringing her hand up over her mouth again. He watched as tears began pouring out of her eyes once again. He'd never seen her cry, not even when she was in pain. Why was she crying now?
"Emery... What's the matter?" He managed to sit up. She wondered why he wasn't mad at her. Why he hadn't blamed this on her. It was her fault, so why wasn't he mad at her for being so careless in battle?
"This is all my fault," She whimpered. "this happened to you because of me. You almost died because of my carelessness."
He looked at her, his eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. How could she possibly blame herself? He couldn't even fathom it. It seemed she and Zelda were alike. She blamed herself for everything that happened. "None of that was your fault." He finally spoke.
She looked at him, her big emerald eyes brimming with tears. The apples of her cheeks and the points of her ears were red. "You don't understand, I thought I couldn't miss, so I let my guard down."
"Accidents happen." He reassured her. She quickly shook her head, burying her face in her hands. He let out a small sigh. He didn't want her to feel this way. Even if she had done what she said it wasn't her fault. She couldn't have known she was going to miss, and that's all there was to it. He didn't know what to say now, and he knew actions spoke louder than words. He wrapped his warm arm around her, and she instantly fell into his chest, being careful not to touch his wound and make him hurt more than she'd already caused. She cried harder. He held her tighter. After a while, she finally sat up to face him again.
"I'm so sorry." She whispered, and you could hear her heart break.
"N-no- Emery-" He began, his heart wrenching, seeing her feel this way. She began to hide her face again as she cried. He pried her hands off her face with the one that wasn't already wrapped around her cold shoulders. He used his free hand to hold her face and make her look at him. He said more forcefully: "It wasn't your fault."
Her bottom lip was quivering as she spoke. "You don't understand-"
"Yes I do. Don't you think I blame myself for all of the downfall of Hyrule? But still, even I know I couldn't have known just how powerful Ganon was going to be, and just how to stop him." He said, using his thumb to wipe away a tear that fell. More and more of his memories were beginning to come back to him each day. Something reminded him of different scenarios.
"I was being careless." She replied.
"I doubt that, Emery. You're not a careless person. In fact, you might possibly care too much." He gave her a gentle smile. She returned a small one, but not for too long.
"If Mipha hadn't stepped in when she did, despite her powers not being at their fullest, you would've been dead because of me." She whispered, hardly being able to bare the thought. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to rid herself of the image. It didn't work, and she felt nauseous just thinking about it.

"It would've been an accident." He tried to console her.
"I still wouldn't have been able to forgive myself." She retorted. A few more tears escaped her sad, green eyes, and he attempted to wipe them away also.
"I'm not dead though, Emery, so don't dwell. It's all over now, and it's okay." He replied. He wasn't good with words, that wasn't a secret, but at least he was trying. All he wanted was to help her. He hated seeing her like this.
"Why don't you hate me?" She asked, frowning. She pulled away from him.
"Why would I? Emery, I promise you it's alright." He remained with one hand on her shoulder.
"How can you say that? I don't understand you." She stood up, holding her hands together, not knowing what to do with herself.
"Because I know it was an accident, Emery." He let out a small sigh. "You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, you know."
"You should get some rest." She mumbled, turning away from him.
"Where are you going?" He asked, pushing himself up although it hurt.
"Link, sit down!" She scolded him.
"Not until you stay here and talk to me! I'm not going to let you just walk away without knowing it's all okay!" He exclaimed. She'd never heard him speak so loudly before. She knew then that she had to stay. That didn't do well with her plans, though.
"It's fine, I just want you to get better. So please lay down?" She begged.
"No, I told you." He said firmly. "I don't believe that you think it's fine for a second."
She let out a small sigh. "I'm going to change, and I'll be back okay?"
"Do you promise?" He asked. She hesitantly nodded, then walked down the stairs. She opted to leave right then, but she didn't. She couldn't do that to him, seeing how much she'd already put him through. Though, staying might put him through worse.
She took a quick shower to clear her thoughts, but in attempts to do that she had to face them all. She ended up sitting with her back against the wall, holding her knees to her chest. She cried her eyes out, where no one could see her. Where Link couldn't try and give her some words of wisdom. It wasn't even like he was the one with wisdom, it was Princess Zelda who had wisdom.
Right on that cue, she heard a voice speaking to her. "Emery," It wasn't very clear at first, but it got louder. She'd never met Zelda, but she instantly knew who it was. "You mustn't blame yourself for what's happened. You have much greater things to deal with. You are crucial to this battle, Emery. You must find it within to forgive yourself. Please."
Why did Zelda have concerns with her? How did she know what was going on? She had so many questions, but no way to ask them. She let out a shaky sigh, and tried to calm herself down. Zelda was right, but it didn't just make her feelings go away. When she looked in the mirror this time, she was still her, but worse. She was even more of a failure. If Mipha hadn't stepped in, Link would've surely died because of her. If that had happened, she would've failed everyone. Anyone she'd ever met, Impa, the Champions, Zelda, but most of all she would've failed Link. In that battle and in their attempts to save Hyrule, let alone the world.
She stepped out of the bathroom, slowly stepping up the stairs to the bed. She stopped at the top step, not having enough confidence to go any further. She watched as he laid in the bed, starring straight at the ceiling. Eventually, he noticed her standing there. He must've been lost in thought. "Hey-"
"Zelda spoke to me... Does she speak to you too?" She asked. He sat up slowly, nodding.
"What did she say to you?" He asked urgently.
"Nothing important," She shrugged.
"Zelda wouldn't have went out to her way to talk to you if it wasn't important. You just don't want to talk about it." He replied. He had grown to know her so well, and she wished he hadn't. She ignored his comment and sat on top of the bed. She leaned against the headboard.
"What do you want to talk about, then?" She asked. He looked over at her, and she wouldn't look back.
"I'm okay, and you shouldn't be beating yourself up over something that wasn't your fault." He said. She finally looked over at him.
"You don't understand, Link! I wasn't paying close attention to where I was shooting! I was watching you, instead! Do you get it now? It was my fault, and it could've been easily avoided if I wasn't so stupid!" She finally blew up, choking on her words. Tears fell down her face again.
"Why... Why were you watching me?" He asked.
"It doesn't matter..." She sighed, trying to calm herself down but to no prevail. She let herself go, toppling over and burying her face into the bed. She cried loudly. Link chewed his lip, it really did hurt him to see her this way. He didn't even hurt that bad from the battle anymore. Even if she could've prevented it, he still understood it was an accident. He just didn't understand why she was watching him.
He grabbed her bare shoulders and pulled her up from the bedsheets. She instantly covered her face. He leaned against the headboard too and now he pulled her into his chest once more. He grabbed her waist and pulled her closer to him- surprisingly, she let him. He rested his head on top of hers, breathing in her scent. She smelt like strawberries all the time. It was like her. Sweet but she can be sour. He rubbed her arm gently to soothe her. She eventually calmed down, holding onto him as if for dear life. He took his hand and pulled a piece of hair away from her face. Her eyes were still squeezed shut. "I forgive you."
That was all she needed hear.

The Cosmic Interloper
Synopsis: A cyborg transhuman escapes her corporate indenture and through unfathomably unlikely circumstances, she ends up in a fantasy world of full of unique magic, angry people with sharp implements, and the whole flavor-spectrum of divine entities. Hilarity ensues. Features: - No blue boxes or cultivation, this is not a LitRPG nor about martial arts - Hard-ish Sci-Fi meets hard-ish magic - Generally trying to keep this "rational" Rationale: My primary goal with The Cosmic Interloper is to write something that I myself would enjoy reading. Of course, that’s not the only motivation, but I think it’s the most important one for me to keep in mind, especially as the author. In fact, this whole story came about because after consuming oodles of fiction, I found myself craving a very specific type of story which I couldn’t find many examples of. Then I asked myself, “why not write it myself?” and here we are. Disclaimer: In general, while I’m not writing a comedy, I do intend for this story to be funny and a bit wacky or absurd. That said though, I am using this story as a vehicle to explore some potentially dark topics including (but not limited to) slavery, speciesism/racism, and existential questions of self, consciousness, and identity. Still, I’m going to leave the “traumatizing content” tags off, because I don’t feel that what I’ve written so far (or plan on writing) exceeds the threshold that would be necessary for me to tag it thusly. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way she views the world is not the objective truth (if such a thing even exists).
