《The Gifted ( +1 Megan )》A Rather Loud Test

"Uggggghhhhh," Megan groaned, heaving a stack of books over to a table.

"I thought you liked the library?" Ohm said, sliding into the seat next to her.

"Normally, yes, I do. But not for studying! I like being in here for fun!" Megan said.

Ohm shook his head. "How do you find it fun? I really don't understand."

Megan shrugged. "You just need to find a genre you're interested in."

"Boring. I'll pass."

"Okay, but will you pass the test? We came here to study," Megan reminded him.

"Right, sorry! Studying."

Megan opened the first book and mentally prepared herself to die of boredom.

It was here. Finally. The day of the test.

Megan's levels of stress had increased considerably. It wasn't that she doubted her ability to answer the questions correctly, it was more that she doubted her ability to understand the questions.

"What is something is worded strangely and I don't understand? What if I miss a crucial detail? Would that make me fail the whole thing? It probably would!" Megan exclaimed.

"Megan, calm down! You're making me nervous." Ohm said, resting a hand on her arm.

"Sorry. I'm just so nervous!"

"I know. You've been telling me for the past 24 hours." Ohm replied.

"Ah. Right. Sorry about that."

"Don't worry, okay? You're going to do just fine." Ohm told her, smiling.

Megan let out a deep breath. "You too."

"Attention, everybody! In a few minutes, we're going to start the placement test. I expect you have all studied?" The teacher waited until the class mumbled their assent. "Wonderful. Now, it should all be material we covered in class. If you are caught cheating, you will immediately be failed and risk moving down all the way to Class 8."

The teacher placed the tests face-down on every student's desk. "You may begin......now!"

Megan quickly flipped her test and scanned the material quickly. She filled in anything she knew off the top of her head and came back to the others.

Then, an excruciatingly loud ringing noise came from the loudspeakers. Megan clutched her head in pain.

It lasted far longer than what was bearable. Once it finally stopped torturing her eardrums, she lifted her head and looked around. No one else seemed affected...except for Ohm. He met her eyes and gave her a weak smile. She smiled back before returning her attention to the test.

"The final question requires a free-text response. The question is, with new advancements in technology, humans are no longer subject to Charles Darwin's natural selection. Do you agree with this statement? Please write your response on the back of the answer sheet." said a voice over the loudspeakers.

Megan frowned, she didn't know there was a back to the answer sheet. She flipped it over to find lined paper with the logo of the Gifted program. Maybe her answer to this question would determine whether or not she got into the program.

She thought about her answer for a good few minutes, making sure it was worded right and sounded good.

Then she picked up her pencil and wrote.
