《The Lyrics That Defined Us.》someone like you.

I heard that you're settled down

That you found a man and you're married now,

I heard that your dreams came true

Guess he gave you things, I didn't give to you

Old friend, why are you so shy?

Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light

I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited

But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it

I had hoped you'd see my face

And that you'd be reminded that for me, it isn't over

Never mind, I'll find someone like you

I wish nothing but the best for you, too

"Don't forget me," I begged

I remember you said

"Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead"

Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead

You know how the time flies

Only yesterday was the time of our lives

We were born and raised, in a summer haze,

Bound by the surprise of our glory days

"Happy belated birthday to my best friend!"

"Happy belated birthday to my best friend!"

"Happy belated birthday to my boyfriend!"

"Uh, happy belated birthday to myself!!"

Eddy tried to seem cheerful but it seemed like the jet lag wouldn't allow him. Pretending just wasn't is forte. "Okay, boys and girls, let's leave for our rooms now, we'll meet tomorrow at 9, okay?" Soo-Lin, apparently the only with full blown, wide open eyes and an energetic smile, said. She seemed to smile more at Mary. Mary nodded, and Rob had already spun around with his hotel key in hand. Eddy hugged Soo-Lin and Rob a 'goodnight' and left with Mary to head towards their room.

The next morning seemed better. Loads better. There were cupcakes by his bed and a little box packed with blue and pink ribbons. But, something was off again. Mary wasn't there. "Mary?" Eddy called, voice raspy from the sleep. The curtains were pulled, clearly no one wanted him to wake up. His left arm wasn't numb, so she had waken up quite some time ago. "Mary? Babe you there?" Eddy called out again, this time while throwing his blanket off to the side. He got up and started looking about the hotel room. It was pretty big and beautiful. Eddy checked the bathroom, no sign of Mary. Her perfume's smell was there, indicating she got up and dressed. Just as he was about to leave, he found a sticky note, stuck to the wall. Pink one and a note written in blue ink:

Happy birthday Ed! Enjoy those cupcakes. Haha :D

The handwriting was mixed. First one was Mary's for sure, next one was Rob's and the last one was Soo-Lin's. Eddy smiled, clearly the others were up to something. He walked back to the bed. The cupcakes were looking delicious, some a light shade of magenta and the other's a beautiful aquamarine. They were so beautiful, that Eddy didn't want to bite into them at first. But his stomach demanded something. Next came the little box. He opened it, only to find a forty tons of shredded decorating paper. Some deep, deep pink while others a hue of teal. Below the poor papers was small picture, a polaroid. It was taken three months ago when Eddy and Mary went to Switzerland. They had a lots of fun there, if you know what that means. The picture had Mary wrapped up, head to toe in woolen clothes and Eddy smiling maniacally at the camera. Eddy flipped the picture around, to find a little scribble.

"Meet us at the Mio Amore's Cake shop! (Within 2 hours, idiot) We'll be sitting at the back, round table, no 7. =D"

Same pattern, first Mary, then Rob, then Soo-Lin. "What are you guys up to?" Eddy asked while scoffing. He ended up eating all the six cupcakes before leaving. He had taken a quick cold shower and changed into some better clothes. The drive wasn't long, he reached within an hour thirty. He walked in and a smell of freshly baked bread hit his nose. The sweet smell of cake was in the air. Behind the glass displays, there were many different types of foods. Cakes, cupcakes, pastries, cream rolls, even peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Eddy walked past the swarm of people to find the table 7. He reached after a few minutes. "Yay, he's here!!" Rob shouted, startling a few waitresses. "Now we gotta wait for the fourth one." Soo-Lin said, Eddy raised his eyebrows, "Who?" Mary laughed, "Oh don't worry, the fourth one will take some time. I bet we can wait." Eddy was fully confused.

Why was Mary such a sticky and closely stitched dress? Why are her eyes red? Why does she have a strawberry cupcake in front of her when she hates them with all her might? Did she gain a couple pounds? And what in the world is that huge of a box doing on the table.

Eddy sat down. "Uh, what's happening?" But no one paid attention to that question. "Excuse me, could you please bring us the ordered pastry for our dumb friend, Edward right here?" Soo-Lin spoke. Eddy still didn't understand. "Yo, what in God's name is happening? Weren't we supposed to go sight-seeing today?" Mary smiled, "We have time in the evening darling." The pastry arrived. It was layered with alternating colors between blue and pink. Rob cleared his throat. "So, umm, would you like to open your birthday surprise?"

Eddy eyed the box, knowing pretty well that that was the present. But what could it be? "Why not? Let's do it!" He looked at Mary for any hints in her eyes but all he saw were crinkled up, happy eyes and folded arms. So no help from Mary. He stood up, as a form of respect, and began to open the big box.

Finally when the ribbons were off and the lid was opened Eddy was shocked to see just two rectangular pieces of envelopes inside. Just two envelopes inside such a big box?

"Okay, umm." Unsure, Eddy picked up the first envelope. Pastel pink, with bold letters: OPEN ME!

Hello,

You probably know me. What the hell is probably, I'm sitting beside you. Mary is my name and I'm your girlfriend. Haha enough with that, I'm not particularly good with letters so let's get to the point.

Firstly, happy birthday old man. We grow up so quick! I've loved every single second spent alongside of yours and can't wait for more. I really hope you live a long and happy life.

Secondly, dear, are you blind? Have you not noticed I've not been on my periods for three and a half months? What kind of a medical professor are you, Mr. Chen?

With love,

Flippin Flippity Mary.

"What the hell?" Eddy eyed Mary.

And then it all hit. Blue and pink. Everything has been been blue and pink. Mary suddenly gaining weight. Her eating strawberry flavoured cake. Of course, three and a half months. Three months since the trip.

"Are you-?" Eddy couldn't complete as the first tear fell. Mary stood up and hugged her boyfriend. "Yes babe," she nodded. Eddy hugged her back tightly but carefully. They slowly pulled away after some time. "Second envelope time!" Rob shouted.

Eddy looked down. Blue envelope. He opened it, pink letter.

Hello Mary and Eddy,

This is to congratulate you on the news that you are blessed with a baby daughter.

Love and Wishes,

L .L . Hospital

Australia

"Wow! A little Mary running around?" Eddy gasped and squeaked. His hug getting tighter around Mary's shoulders. Rob and Soo-Lin stood up, "Congratulations Eddy and Mary. Don't forget to invite us at the wedding woohoo!" A wink from Soo-Lin was enough for Mary to understand. She was clever and not like Eddy, who took almost the whole afternoon to catch onto the hints. Mary cleared her throat, "Yeah, so. Are you supposed to tell me something?" Eddy blushed. Real bad. He looked down and smiled.

Same socks.

"Yeah, but we gotta wait till we get to the fountain outside the hotel."

An hour later, there they stood. Eddy on his knees and Mary squealing of small fits of giggles. Soo-Lin was holding two secrets. Mary's pregnancy and Eddy's choice of ring. (It was her who took them out to buy all the things, separately, after all)

"So, My lovely, will you do the honour of marrying me?"

"What the hell do you think is the answer?"

Day One of Ignoring Brett- complete.

Day One of a New Family- started.

With a sigh of relief and huge smile, the ring was gently pushed onto the finger. Hopefully, a happily ever after. He had two princesses just for himself, now.

But he didn't see a person in black frowning at them from a corner hand and in hand with a little child. He didn't see a silent tear roll down their eyes, underneath the black shades, as the two pairs of feet retreated back to where they came from.
