《The Lyrics That Defined Us.》don't check on me.

If I'm out at the bar, having a night on the town

Life of the party, pouring shots of the brown

And you see me from the street, but I don't turn around

Would you say 'Hi'? Or would you keep going?

If I told your family that you didn't mean nothing,

If you posted about it, and I didn't even comment

If the songs weren't true, but you still feel something

Would you still come looking for me?

Oh don't go reaching out,

'Cause you can't have everything

Your head and your heart won't feel the same,

Even if it feels like it every time

Don't check on me, if we're not together

And it's probably for a reason, every heart break has its season

It ain't always summer in June

Might run across your mind, but don't worry 'bout me, no

My heart is back in one piece, it ain't skipped a beat, no

Feeling rested up, I ain't missing sleep, no

Don't take it personal if I can't reply now,

I'm distant 'cause I don't wanna be reached now

Won't let the ghosts of our past weigh my future down,

I'm liberated

Energy's like a circle that comes back around,

Reciprocated

Don't shed no more tears, won't get no empathy from me

In the upcoming years, oh, I don't need your pity

Don't check on me

Oh, Don't check on me, if we're not together

And it's probably for a reason, every heart break has its season

And it looks like winter for you

Ain't calling you back, 'cause I let it go

I had to focus energy and just let it flow

And when we ride low, we're already gone

It wouldn't mean anymore to me now,

I know it hurts you so bad, just to see me happy

That I finally moved on, you thought it wouldn't happen,

At times I used to cry, you wouldn't know when I was laughing

But you act like you didn't notice,

No, don't go reaching out,

'Cause you can't have everything,

You can't kill a flame with gasoline

Even if it feels like it every time,

No matter how hard you try

Don't check on me, if we're not together

It hurt.

It hurt, but nicely.

Calm, pleasing, pleasuring pain.

Not where you're thinking, no, but in the heart.

It physically felt good to see him with his eyes blown wide.

It all started when Eddy and his gang went to grab bubble tea the day after his 19th birthday. The same place from all those years ago. Some things never change. Eddy grabbed his favourite drink and ordered one for Mary. Soo-Lin and Rob ordered theirs. Eddy got a special cupcake for the group as a little "thank you" for the day before.

Just as they were turning around to get to their common seat, they saw something they shouldn't have. Okay, maybe not they, but Eddy. A guy, with glasses, short even while sitting, black violin case to his left, a woman before him, holding his hand. It was all too familiar. Who are we kidding, he is already known to us.

Brett Yang.

He...

He was the one from yesterday. He was the one at the bar. He was there, he saw Eddy. But, he didn't even wish? Didn't even wave a hi? And he was sitting on the seat, they used to sit at. All those years ago. Eddy would have almost dropped his drink if it weren't for Mary swiftly taking the cupcake and the milk tea out of his hand. "Dude, Let's go." Mary whispered. Soo-Lin and Rob were already sitting down at their place which was unfortunately right beside Brett's table. Eddy sat down with a sigh, but a smile plastered on his face. 'So she is replacing you, Eddy.' The voice in his head spoke. Eddy scoffed, he didn't care anymore.

And that was not a lie.

He really didn't. He moved on with the conversation the gang had started. And it was around, bubble tea. He gave no damn to the soft, startled gasp he heard from his left. Just completely ignored Brett. In an alternative reality, this would have been impossible. Eddy ignoring Brett. An hour passed by. Laptops were out on the table, and the gang was doing their due assignments. Obviously, cheating off of each other. And laughing quietly when they caught one another in the act. But soon, the scholars were done with their work. All four got up to leave but, wait.

There was a hand on Eddy's shoulder. Too familiar. It was Brett. "Uh, hi Eddy?" Eddy felt his jaw tighten. He shrugged the hand off and turned around. Putting his politest smile which literally screamed, 'I don't give a damn about you anymore, so please leave me alone.' "Hi." Eddy said, the gang was kind of surprised. They didn't who the shorter, violinist was. Brett smiled, on any other occasion or maybe three years back, the smile would have melted Eddy's heart. And made him fall flat on his face for Brett, but now, it just seemed the most fake thing ever. Even faker than violin playing on mainstream TV shows. "Yes, Brett?" Eddy spoke out irritated, causing a shushed gasp from Soo-Lin and Mary snaking her arm around Eddy's torso. 'So he is Brett?' Soo-Lin wondered.

Brett's eyes seemed to change emotions. What is it...

...anger?

"Um, long time no see." Brett tried smiling but Eddy was burning holes in him with his fixated gaze. "Long time no 'good night'" Eddy said, blatantly pointing out that Brett forgot to work by his words. Brett cocked his head to the left, squinting. A classic 'huh?' gesture. "Oh, so you don't even remember. What's the job, Yang?" Eddy would've never known there would exist a day, he would have to call Brett by his last name. 'Brett' just didn't hold any meaning anymore. Brett, himself, didn't hold any meaning anymore. "Job?" Brett asked, slowly getting infuriated. "Never mind. Why are you here?" Eddy spoke out, tone cold as ice. "Holidays." Brett said, curt. "So do you need anything? I have to leave." Eddy said, making the other understand Eddy was not in the mood to talk. Not right now, not ever.

Brett shook his head, "You've changed." He muttered under his breath.

Oh no. He did not just say that.

"What?" Eddy spoke, anger and surprise equally palpable. Brett backed shrugging, the woman he was with cane walking towards them, "Nothing." He said, shaking his head. "Absolutely nothing at all." He whispered. "Right, and that's what you mean to me now. Absolutely nothing at all. Don't talk to me, Yang. I'm better now, better without you. Better without whatever we were." And then he left.

It hurt.

It hurt, but nicely.

Calm, pleasing, pleasuring pain.

Not where you're thinking, no, but in the heart.

It physically felt good to see him with his eyes blown wide.
