The next few months were pretty much the same, the final task wasn't until the last month of the school year. I spent most of my time with my now fixed friend group, or with Cedric or Evangeline.
I'd tried to persuade Evangeline to transfer over to Hogwarts- but she loved France so much she said she'd feel even more homesick than she does now, but she said she'd visit often after the tournament was over.
The final task was just around the corner, and Cedric was slightly nervous - bet then everyone was. We'd started sneaking Cedric and Cho into the common room to have late night feasts infront of the fireplace and we just sort of bonded like that.
It was Friday night, and the third and final task was on Sunday, so we snuck Cedric and Cho into the common room once again. Me and Fred had been nominated to go on the adventure of getting food from the kitchens - because according to George 'they like you two more than us', but I secretly thought he wanted me and Fred to spend some time alone - the sly minx.
We were walking down the moving stairs, and then further down the fourth floor corridor, when we saw a pair of yellow eyes - Mrs Norris.
"Shit." I muttered, nudging Fred to get his attention, and pointing at the cat. He turned around and his eyes widened.
"What are we going to do Freddie?" I asked, and we could hear distant footsteps.
"Make a run for it." He said, and we both sprinted back towards the staircase.
Everyone in the common room would have to wait a bit longer for their pumpkin pasties.
We were rushing up the stairs, nearly reaching the sixth floor exit, when the stairs began to move. I groaned, and Fred frowned. This was just our luck. Now, we'd have detentions it's Filch. We could hear him running up the stairs and cursing when they switched too - he wasn't far behind. He must've seen Fred, because he was yelling.

"Get back here Weasley!" Filch screeched, as we sprinted up the last steps once the staircase moved, and ran down the random sixth floor corridor. He wasn't far behind us either.
We didn't know which rooms where behind the doors, but I heard water running, and so I pulled Fred's hand, and dragged him into the girls toilet.
It must've been abandoned or something, because it was slightly flooded and abandoned. Suddenly, a ghost of a girl emerged from a cubicle.
"Oooo two students out of bed - so scandalous!" She giggled at us.
"You're Myrtle right?" Fred asked beside me, still holding my hand. I'd heard about a ghost called Myrtle, but I'd never bothered to pay attention.
"You're the first person not to call me Moaning Myrtle." She said to Fred.
"Well you're not moaning are you?" He replied.
She turned to me.
"Who are you?" Myrtle demanded.
"Y/N Black." I answered, smiling at her.
"So a Black and a Weasley - Oh! I heard two fifth years talking about you two." She giggled, as she glided past towards the sinks - we followed.
"Who was talking about us?" I asked - I hated people talking behind my back.
"I don't know their names, but they said you looked good together - and you do." She said kindly.
"Oh Myrtle, we're not together." I said shaking my head at her.
"Then why are you still holding hands?" She said with confusion.
I looked down to our hands, and she was right - they were still entwined.
I quickly let go, and so did Fred - both of us blushing heavily. Myrtle giggled at our awkwardness.
"Filch is gone now you know." She whispered.
I smiled at the ghost and said, "Thank you Myrtle."
Me and Fred gave her one last smile, and quickly left the abandoned toilets, making our way to the kitchens.
Once we got there, I was quickly greeted by multiple house elfs.
"Oh Miss Black!" One greeted me, with a smile.

"Kreacher has said such wonderful things about you Miss Black!" Another said.
Fred looked at me with surprise - he'd never been down here with me, so didn't realise how much these elfs seemed to like me.
I kneeled down onto the kitchen floor, and came face to face with a lovely elf called Topsy.
"Hello Miss Black." She smiled at me.
"Hey Topsy - can you please give this letter to Kreacher?" I asked, passing it to her from my back pocket. Elfs could apperate in the castle, and would give Kreacher my letter far faster.
Topsy simply nodded, clicked her fingers, and disappeared.
Within a matter of seconds, she returned, and beamed at me again.
"I have one other favour for you sorry Topsy." I said.
"Oh anything for Miss Black!" She squealed.
"Can we have some sandwiches and snacks? One of the Hogwarts champions is having a sleepover in the common room with us." I told her.
"Mr Diggory?" Another elf asked, coming towards me, and passing me a tray of sandwiches.
"Yes - He says hello to you Misty." This made the little elf nearly cry with joy. Misty was his family's old elf, who they'd set free as they wanted her to earn some money for herself.
Behind me, Fred had been given a tray of cupcakes and a few lemon tarts - he looked up at me and smiled.
Topsy leaned by my ear, and whispered.
"We all think you and Mr Weasley are perfect!" She was smiling so much at me, with her big blue eyes twinkling.
I looked at her and smiled, "I like him a lot Topsy - we're not together, but I want to be." She looked overjoyed at this and began jumping up and down from excitement.
"This will be our little secret okay Topsy? Well - you can tell all the other elfs if they want to know too." I said to her, as I got up and made my way back to Fred with my food.
We said our final goodbyes, and left the kitchens, successfully not getting caught by a certain squib and his psychotics cat.
When we got back, everyone was lying around the sofas and on the floor, laughing. When we came in, they all cheered.
"Thought you'd never come back Y/N!" Lee exclaimed.
"You try sneaking into the kitchens with Filch trying to get you - then bumping into a ghost." I grumbled, placing the food on the table, and sitting on the sofa.
"At least Fred was with you." George wriggled his eyebrows suggestively at Fred and Me.
We all burst out laughing.
"Just a warning - Filch will be after any red head though - he saw Fred's hair, so word of warning for tomorrow." I said as I cuddled up to Fred's side.
"We were going to prank him anyway - we won't be binding that's for sure!" George said enthusiastically, giving Fred a high five.
That night, we ate, sang, played spin the bottle (kissing Cho on the cheek for me), and took many, many shit of fire whiskey. By 3am, we were all shattered and drunk.
Fred swung his arm around me, pulling me close and mumbled something I couldn't hear.
"What did you say Freddie?" I asked sleepily.
"Just said we should get together." He replied, his words slightly slurred.
"What? Like date?" I said, slightly more awake now.
"Might as well, we both bloody love eachother Y/N there's no denying." He replied, pulling me to his chest, and holding onto me.
"Okay - we can get together." I mumbled into his chest.
"Wicked." Fred said.
And after that, I fell asleep in Fred's arms - something I'd done so many times before - but this time, it was different, I was his. Plus, I was very drunk, and drunk cuddles were even better than sober ones.

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.
