It was the day after this new gemling's birth, and Yellow felt like a mess. Her tears refused to stop falling. She couldn't even hold the new baby; she was in an incubator which would give off a gas that she could inhale to get more energy. That gas would've been too little for Blue to sustain herself with, however.

Yellow didn't even know if Blue was actually gone or not. All she could do was wait.

Meanwhile, in the clinic where Blue Diamond's gem lay, Chalcedony was trying to figure out how to get energy into Blue's gem.

Giving that gas to her physical body would've been too little, she pondered. Would exposing only her gem to it work? She thought about it. She had to think fast, because she didn't want to lose her Diamond, and she had a strong feeling that Yellow would never forgive her for Blue's death — if it had actually happened, that is.

Yellow sat in the twins' room, holding Eden. Thankfully, she wasn't being fussy today; maybe she knew Yellow wasn't in the mood for that? Who knows. She took a peek at Eden's gem. It was in the shape of Blue's, same facet, just green instead of blue.

That would probably explain why she's got the same abilities as Blue, where when she cries, anyone near her cries. Verna's gem had the same shape as Yellow's, and no one was affected whenever she cried, which really wasn't very often.

Eden started to coo, then let out a tiny sneeze. She reached her arms up toward Yellow's face. Eden reminded Yellow so much of Blue; she even had her eyes, with lashes that were bolder on the bottom, rather than the top.

"Eden, will you let me see your new sister?" Yellow asked emotionlessly, with a sigh. Eden grabbed the fabric of Yellow's top and began to kick both legs. "Well—" She stood up and put Eden over her shoulder. "—that's just too bad." Eden began to whine and fuss, but Yellow paid no mind. She set her down in her crib, knowing she'd cry herself to sleep eventually.

Yellow walked out of the nursery and to the clinic, where the newborn gemling lay, as well as what was left her partner. She felt pity for the tiny stranger; she probably felt trapped. Chalcedony was off to the side, looking up something on a sort of computer system.

"Chalcedony."

"My Diamond?"

"May I see her?" It wasn't that Yellow was asking for permission, it was more of, "Will taking her out of the incubator hurt her?"

"Yes, my Diamond. She's got enough energy to sustain herself, now." Chalcedony went over to the incubator, opened the small hatch, and handed the gemling to Yellow.

She was swaddled in a white blanket, sleeping soundly. None of them had seen her eyes yet; she hadn't opened them. Yellow pulled at a section of the blanket to peek at her gem. It was basically the same shape as Blue's, just a bit slimmer.

The child woke up from feeling the cold air. And for the first time, she opened her eyes, and Yellow couldn't believe what she saw. Her right eye was blue, and her left eye was yellow. Her blue eye was the same exact blue as Blue's eyes. And her yellow eye was the same yellow as her own pair. Yellow sighed as she looked at them. She could practically see Blue Diamond in this child; it hurt.

The child looked around a bit, probably wondering was what was going on. She let out a tiny sneeze—"'choo!"—then looked up at the one holding her. She looked amazed, actually.

Yellow had a stern look on her face, despite feeling broken on the inside. She couldn't even look at her own children with a smile anymore. It was so sad. She felt incomplete without Blue. It felt so lonely now.

She took in a deep breath, quietly let it out, and put the baby in the cot that was in the clinic. She walked out, not wanting to talk to anyone.

Chalcedony stayed in the room, clicking around on the monitor, trying to find a way to solve all of this. She saw something deep in the files saying, "Reviving a dead one whose gem remains," and clicked it immediately. All she could do was pray that this would work, as that had been deep in the section of Ancient Gem History, and this method could've worked years ago. Who knows if it even worked now?

Chalcedony looked toward Blue Diamond's gemstone, which sat on the bed. She whispered, "Don't worry, my Diamond. You'll see your family again, I promise. You'll be back, and things will be as they once were."
