《The Darkened Dove (SCP-049 x reader)》Chapter 2: The SCP Foundation

Muffled voices could be heard from outside of your apartment. 5:30 had finally rolled around and you had just finished putting away the last of your clothes and personal items. You grabbed your room key and opened your door into the long repetitive hallways. You shut and locked your grey apartment door and set on your way to the elevators.
The elevator doors slid open to where the two guards from before stood ready to escort you and all of the other researchers to orientation.
"Ok, looks like everyone made it. Orientation is on this floor, not too far away from here." The two facility guards turned away leading the five of you away. "The facility's dining hall is also on this floor right over this way." The guards gestured down another on going hallway complete with more bright white tiles and yellow horizontal stripes leading away into an endless stream of doors and hallways. You had no idea how you were going to learn your way around this place. So far everything looked the same aside from the monochrome signs and the occasional green plastic house plants scattered amongst the facility. The seemingly endless yellow lines stopped at one large white wall with a symbol you didn't recognize with large black letters posted spelling out "S.C.P Secure. Contain. Protect" the letters made the grey doors to their right seem so small.
The guards opened the two doors allowing you and the other researchers to enter the room. It was again decorated with the same white walls and cream tiles, there we're plenty of chairs with long desks to go with them. Each desk was long enough to sit at least two people. There was a large projector screen looming above a wooden podium in the front of the room. You took a seat at a desk at on the far left side of the room. The room was big and felt empty with how few researchers were here for orientation. You heard the chair scrape against the floor beside you a woman sat down next to you. Her short, shaggy black hair barely hit her shoulders. She plopped down next to you with confidence despite your startled expression.
"hey, my names Chloe. Sorry I didn't get to introduce myself earlier." She chimed suddenly holding out her hand for you to take. You jumped slightly in your seat, so far no one here had been much for conversation and the sudden interaction caught you off guard.
"Hi, my names (y/n)." You replied collecting yourself and shaking her outstretched hand.
"Nice to meet you (y/n)" she retorted, retracting her hand. A door creaking open caught both of your attention. Another man had walked through the doors and setting down a large stack of papers onto the podium upfront. He had a long, white lab coat on with a grey suit underneath. The lab coat had the same symbol from outside stitched on the right side of his chest. He had messy dark brown hair that almost looked black, he maintained a blank expression while he addressed everyone in the room.
"Hello, my name is Dr. Oakley Sullivan. But you all may call me Dr. Sullivan. Before we begin I would like you all to save any questions you have for when we are finished with this presentation." He cleared his throat. "Now, you all were all selected to be offered this job after we had deemed you all worthy and suitable for this type of job. I'm sure that you all have PhD's, at least a year of research experience and have excelled in all of our tests. Whether you were aware of it or not. But either way it doesn't matter. Whatever happened you all made it here." He started, he voice grew quiet when he said those last few words. You all made it here. Normally it would feel as if you had accomplished something. Something great. When you got here you had felt that way, but now you weren't so sure.

His downcast gaze snapped back up and regained his former deadpan expression. He pushed a couple of buttons on the projector. The machine hissed and the light flickered on and illuminated the screen.
"I have a short introductory video I am required to show you. So, pay attention and take notes if you want to. I guess." He grumbled and stepped away from the projector towards the corner of the room.
The video was completely black and white with background music screeching through the speakers.
"Hello! You have been chosen to be a part of the largest secret agency with facilities spread all across the globe, we welcome you to the SCP Foundation...."
------
The old video was short only about 10 minutes long. But that was all it took for you too feel a hole growing larger in your stomach and the air around you felt thick. The video explained very little on the SCP Foundation and what they do. All you knew is that the video briefly spoke of topics such as the secret agency that is the SCP Foundation and dangerous anomalies that are unexplained by science that supposedly reside here in containment. The video was extremely old and obscure, just like everything else in this foundation so far.
The video ended and the screen faded to black. Dr. Sullivan returned to the stage, taking a pen out from behind his ear he scribbled something down onto his papers. The lights turned back on blinding you for a moment, blinking a couple times your eyes adjusted.
"Alright, now I understand that video was considerably out dated, but it is the best we have provided for you 'new recruits'. You all are now hopefully informed enough to know that this wont be your average run of the mill research project. No. This is much more than that. You see there are in fact creatures here that can, and will kill you if you go in unformed." He stated, his cold blue eyes piercing through every soul in the room. He searched the room for reactions. His shoulders relaxed when he was greeted with nothing but fearful and tense stares from all the new members of the foundation.
"So with that said, my job is in fact to inform you of what is expected of you here. As I'm sure you had picked up from the video you will be researching these anomalous creatures, objects, beings. Anything really." He continued. "These anomalies are to be called SCP'S. SCP stands for Special Containment Procedures and also our motto, Secure, Contain, and Protect." He retracted the screen to reveal a large poster taped against the wall.
"As you see here there are multiple classifications of these SCP'S, on this poster here we have only labeled our most common classes. These will be the ones you will be dealing with most. As you or if you move up in the ranks you may be subjected to SCP'S with different classifications. Anyways, there is Safe, Euclid, Keter, Thaumiel, and Neutralized. All of these classifications are assigned depending on how difficult the SCP is to contain." He explained pointing to each class on the poster.
"If an SCP is classified as 'safe' that indicates that they are easily contained, or we have a good understanding of their anomalous abilities. But keep in mind that safe class SCPs are not always safe-"
------
Chills run down your spine while Dr. Sullivan explained each class. Even the 'safe' class didn't guarantee that the SCP was 'safe'. You felt sick, you knew already that this was going to be a job like no other. But this. This isn't what you had in mind, it was worse than you could have imagined.

"I know that this is a lot to swallow all at once, but as long as you follow all of our instructions and pay attention to every detail. You should be fine. You will all have at least two weeks worth of training with some of our top researchers before you are assigned your own SCP to begin your own research. And even then you will not be alone, you will always have one to two other researchers with you. And you will always have security around you, the numbers of security will vary with each SCP." He further explained. Turning away from his poster and looked back down to his notes. His dark hair falling against his forehead before he spoke up again.
"Alright, as with the SCPs you all have your own classes as well. There is A class, B class, C class, D class, and E class. A class is the highest class, personnel who are A class have complete access to all of the facilities information and allowed anywhere in the facility, B class are any senior administration or mobile task Force commanders, C class is what you will be considered when you begin. This class is for all researchers, security and mobile task force. You will be provided a level 2 security clearance so you my interact with SCPs. Then there is D class.." He paused as if to contemplate how he was going to continue.
"They were prisoners that were facing a life sentence or death row. But they chose to come here instead to assist us with our research. So in turn they will generally be the ones required to interact with SCPs and the ones who we use to further research these anomalies whether that be dangerous or not." His eyes traveled the room, as if searching for any reactions. He must have got some because he sighed and continued.
"I know what you're probably thinking. And although they are horrible people I feel sorry for them too. But they are necessary for our work. When you are using a D class for one of your experiments you will be required to give them as much necessary information you possess to ensure their safety. You will also be required to have an extra guard with you as D class can become violent at times. Finally there is E class. These are any personnel who have been subjected to anomalous effects and need immediate psychological and physical evaluation. This class will be completely quarantined until both their evaluations are completed." He finally finished.
Your brain ached from all the new information you were presented at once. The very air around you felt dense and cold, and you felt as if even the tiles beneath you had changed into something sinister. Nothing felt right here, everything felt wrong. But despite what your gut was telling you, you felt your curiosity spike. You wanted to run, but you wanted to know more. Rubbing your left temple you stayed rooted in your seat, unwavering and ignoring the fear welling up inside of your heart.
"Now that we have all of the basics covered I think we can start wrapping things up. Again, you will all be assigned a doctor to shadow before you do any sort of work on your own. So you will have plenty of first hand experience before you start your work. And before you ask all of your pay checks will be administered at the end of each month, and we have three designated meal times a day along with any snacks or dietary needs you request. 8:00 is breakfast, 12:00 is lunch and at 6:00 you'll be provided dinner. Which also happens to have started a while ago. But there should be enough for the rest of you. So, any questions?" Dr. Sullivan asked only to be greeted with silence.
You did have questions. You actually had a lot of questions. But you couldn't think of what to say, all your history of science and research only to be hopelessly reminded that you only truly understood the tiniest tip of an enormous iceberg. Not only that. But these anomalies or SCPs as Dr. Sullivan had called them were dangerous. You knew for a fact you would never be the same after this, you could die here. You thought of your mom, and how she would never be the same either if something happened to you. You felt horrified. Nothing could have prepared you for this.
The room was still. It wouldn't surprise you if the other scientists were thinking similar things. The opportunity for questions was brief and before anyone could get their thoughts together Dr. Sullivan moved on.
"Ok, good. If any questions come up in the future you can ask me or the researcher you are assigned to. My office is just across the hall. Your assignments will be given to you later tonight. And there are signs posted that will lead you to both the dinning hall and your apartments. And since most of you have turned in your measurements you will have your own uniform and lab coat by the end of the week. You are all dismissed."
Chloe shot up, although her hair hid her well, you could still make out her furrowed brow. You followed pulling at your sleeves and biting the inside of your cheek.
"Well, I don't know what I had expected. But that wasn't it." Chloe finally commented on your way to the dinning hall.
"No. It wasn't what I had expected either." You replied your eyes traveling down to watch the tiles drift past.
A sigh escaped your lips when you finally entered the cafeteria. The smell of tomato sauce, garlic and cheese came in from the kitchen. The room was much more lively than the rest of the facility. There were posters on the walls, tables and chairs were spread across the large room with a booth where you could both take premade meals and request something else. Like Dr. Sullivan said there was plenty left over food.
You grabbed a plate of the lasagna and ignored the tightness in your stomach. You had always had trouble eating under stress, and today would be no different. Chloe plopped down onto a table nearby. There was a couple of the men you recognized from your group already seated there with her. Stepping awkwardly to follow you hesitated for a moment. Deciding between having a table to yourself and following your newfound acquaintance.
"Are you coming?" Chloe questioned raising an eyebrow.
You flinched, "Yeah, sorry." You quickly recovered before joining the small group.
Chloe had already started a conversation with the two men. You forced a few bites down into your tense stomach.
---- Time Skip----
You said your goodbyes early to Chloe and her new friends. You just wanted to go back your room, shower and maybe get some sleep before you started tomorrow. After all if this place is as dangerous as Dr. Sullivan made it sound you did not want to be falling asleep on the job.
You closed your door behind you and locked it. You quickly grabbed some fresh pajamas and your shampoo and conditioner. It'll be fine. Don't worry yourself so much (y/n). You thought opening the bathroom door. The bathroom was small but had everything you would need. A mirror, sink, toilet and shower. There were towels already laid out for you. Getting into the shower you could feel the heat begin to melt away your stress. You hadn't realised how tense you actually were until your muscles finally relaxed. While you were in there you washed your hair, doing your usual routine of shampoo, condition, and wash. Turning off the water you grabbed the nearest towel. You had to make sure that you did not shower for too long. Everyone was assigned a certain amount of time they were allowed to shower in order to save water for everyone else. Also probably for the water bill this place has to pay too.
You got dressed, and brushed your teeth before you went to bed. You did as instructed and set your alarm for 7:00 to be up in time for breakfast and then your new job.
The bed was so welcoming, laying down warm and clean. It was one of the best feelings. You closed your eyes and tried to fall asleep.
~
When you opened your eyes again you were home. Back in your room and laying in bed. Everything was the same as you had left it. Glancing at your clock you were greeted with a blank screen. Weird. But not crazy. Looking out the window you were greeted with intense darkness. It looked like there was no moon out tonight. You tried to fall back asleep when you heard a light tapping at your window. Startled, you turned back to see the perpetrator. You could barely make out the small figure in the darkness. There was a large raven sitting on your window sill. It's silver beak tapped on the glass, only to stop and only tapped periodically. It stared at you with it's dark eyes. Sitting up you stared back at the bird.
The feeling was quiet at first, but you felt the bird drawing you towards your window. Closer to him. You obeyed, stepping onto your carpet floors and abandoning your warm sheets. You approached the window, and the bird stopped it's tapping. You felt your hand reach out towards the glass. Your hand hovered over the glass and reached for the latch to unlock the darkened window.
~
You jolted awake when the alarm clock went off, screaming at you with its programmed long, annoying beeps. You quickly pushed down dismiss. You cringed when your bare feet hit the cold floor of your apartment. A pit in your stomach quickly grew when you fully woke up. Today will be your first day at the foundation, the first day shadowing another researcher, and the first time meeting an SCP.
Taking a deep breath you buried your fear and got up. It's going to be ok.

Hello again! And thank you all for reading! And I'm sorry it took me so long to post this chapter I had hoped to get it up a lot sooner. Also I did not make this video but I got the inspiration for the video shown earlier in this chapter! If you have some time I would encourage you to check it out! It was posted on Litterbot's channel and here is a link to the video!
