《Whirl》chapter 14

To say Josie was shocked was an understatement. She had just arrived at August's apartment. The key he gave her was for the elevator because of course he had a penthouse suite.
It was huge and modern. The foyer from the elevator opened up to a kitchen and living space, a spiral staircase in the far corner.
Josie's favorite part were the panoramic windows that looked over the city. She felt like she was on top of the world, a queen in a palace.
August told her he would be a little late coming from work, but to pick a bedroom and help herself to whatever.
Josie took her time to explore the apartment. There was a huge master bedroom and three large guests. August had one of them as an office. One of the guests had a balcony, so of course that's the one she chose.
She knew August would be hungry after work so she had picked up food from the grocery store to make him dinner. She enjoyed cooking, especially for him. It made her feel like she was contributing in someway. There were small things she could do, and she knew August appreciated them.
August appreciated her no matter what. He had no expectations except for her to be herself, and she loved that about him.
She made them a lasagna. She didn't have any problems finding things in his kitchen. Everything was so meticulously placed and organized.
August couldn't wait to get home. He was hoping Josie had made herself comfortable, and he could not wait to see her. He had been thinking about her all day. Actually, there hasn't been a time since he met her where she wasn't in his thoughts.
He found her in his kitchen. Something smelt heavenly, but Josie looked heavenly. She was in pajamas of course, swaying to some music she was playing on her phone. She was absolutely gorgeous. She looked like she was home, and the thought made August warm all over.

"Hi," he greeted.
Josie gasped, startled. She spun around with the wooden spoon to her chest, "I didn't even hear you come in! How long have you been standing there?"
"Long enough," he chuckled, pulling her in for a hug. It had been almost three days since they had seen each other and he had missed her immensely.
"I made us dinner," she said into his chest.
"I really appreciate that. It smells amazing, but I don't expect you to cook for me."
"I know, but I like to," she said rubbing his back.
August smiled, leaning down to kiss her sweetly. "I'm glad you made it safely. Did you get all of your things in a bedroom?"
Josie nodded. She gave a noise of protest when he broke their embrace. She could stay in his arms forever.
"I'm just going to go change my clothes, and then I will be back," he told her, giving her one last kiss on her pouty lips.
After dinner, they curled up together on his couch. Josie had her head in August's lap. His fingers were running soothingly from her face to her hair as he absentmindedly watched the movie they had chosen. He could care less about the movie, he couldn't get over how angelic she looked laying in his lap.
Josie yawned, "You're going to put me to sleep, babe." It reminded her of the similar moment in London.
August lit up at the pet name. "Babe?" he smiled, leaning down to kiss her nose.
Josie blushed and laughed at the ticklish kiss. "You don't like August so I'm trying it out. I don't know how I feel about it though," she teased.
"You can call me whatever your cute heart desires," he replied cheesily. His mind reeling from the pet name. Is this how normal people felt when their partner called them something special? No one had ever really cared enough to give him one. He thought most of them were overused and annoying when he heard them coming from other people, but with Josie it just felt like second nature.

"Whatever I desire? Okay, cookie," she continued.
August wrinkled his nose. It was odd, but if that's what she wanted.
Josie laughed at his expression, "baby cakes."
That one was a little cringy, but her laugh was contagious and he liked her teasing.
"I actually have the perfect one. My perfect little petunia," she pinched his cheeks, the soft laughter still spilling from her mouth. She looked absolutely beautiful.
August felt like he had conquered the world. Somehow in the midst of his crazy life, he had found a best friend, a partner. He had never felt so good, so care-free and happy.
"Alright, I've had enough of you," he teased back, reaching down to tickle her sides.
"No," she protested, trying to squirm away, but he trapped her in his arms, her sweet giggles like music to his ears. "I'm going to end up rolling off your lap."
"I wouldn't let you fall," he said, easing back to let her catch her breath. He couldn't resist leaning down to press his lips to hers, elated.
