“Excellent,” said Darth Vaita as Jue threw down the angsty teenager before her. “You have done well.”

“We actually tracked down a second jedi,” said Skoti proudly, keeping the Twi`lek in handcuffs. “We used a force neutralizer, she should be ready for transport.” Darth Vaita’s face grew eviler.

“Good. GOOD,” she cackled. “With these two captured, and Darth Burai taking care of the third, we should be good to go.” Jue and Skoti bowed down before Darth Vaita.

“May we be dismissed?” asked Skoti, wanting to negotiate the best price for the Twi`lek before Jue could. Darth Vaita craned her neck.

“I suppose. Don’t fail me this time,” she said forewarning them. Jue and Skoti nodded their heads. The Twi'lek watched in horror as she was brought back aboard the bounty ship to be sold off.

“So,” said Darth Vaita. The girl stood up from the floor.

“What do you want with me,” said the girl, shivering.

“Calm down, Karis,” said Darth Vaita in a soothing voice. Karis, terrified, stopped shivering.

“You didn’t answer my question,” said Karis defiantly. Darth Vaita smiled.

“You have great potential Karis. More than that of any other force sensitive being I’ve come across,” said Darth Vaita. “I want to see just how powerful you really are.” Darth Vaita clapped. Master Turi was brought in by two Super TroopersTM.

“Normally I wouldn’t do this, but I feel like you’ve earned it,” started Darth Vaita.

“I-i don’t know what you mean,” stated Karis, looking at Master Turi’s pain filled eyes. This was the jedi who betrayed them. Betrayed the entire Jedi Ascendancy. She issued the order that made them exiles. She wanted to eradicate all the jedi.

“I know you’re angry at her, Karis,” said Darth Vaita. “I mean, who wouldn’t be. She killed your master.” Karis felt a surge of anger rush through her.

“Good. Use your anger. Use it to fuel you. Embrace it,” Darth Vaita hissed. Karis looked down at the defenseless Turi. It was almost too easy. Karis raised her lightsaber. Turi’s face looked at her with fear. Karis was reminded of the look that Sel had right before he died. Life was so fragile, it could end with the swipe of a hand. She could get revenge for her master’s death. But it didn’t seem natural. People couldn’t be replaced, for no people are completely equal to each other. Karis’s mind flashed back to the time when she and Adala met Darth Burai. She was filled with a similar emotion, but this was different. Darth Vaita was tempting her to the Dark side. She must resist her temptations to end Turi once and for all.

“No,” said Karis sternly. “I won’t do it.” Darth Vaita’s face fell.

“Do it,” she growled. Karis tossed her lightsaber aside.

“No,” she said defiantly. “I won’t be tempted by your offer.”

“Karis, may I remind you it was her who gave you an abusive master?” snarled Darth Vaita.

“Adala wasn’t abusive, just strict,” stated Karis, confused.

“Do strict masters stab their padawans during a fight?” Darth Vaita knew she was pulling at Karis’s weak spots.

“That was my own fault, I was too slow-”

“That's what she wants you to think. That’s what you’ve been trained to think. You’re better than this, Karis, I can sense it.”

“I don’t know…” Karis replied. “Am I really that powerful?”

“That’s up to you,” said Darth Vaita. “Your fate lies in your own hands and what you choose to do with them.” Karis looked down at her hands. Flashes of her Wookieepedia article flooded her mind. Yet, Turi killed her master. Turi sold them out.

“I’ll do it,” said Karis strongly, positioning herself in front of Turi.

“Yes, YES!” cackled Darth Vaita. “Your hatred is strong!” Karis looked Turi in the face. She couldn’t back down now.

“Go on. Kill her,” hissed Darth Vaita. Karis took out her lightsaber. The blade pulsated with energy. The same blade that had killed Sel. The hatred flowing through Karis’s mind was slowly taking control. She knew what she had to do.

Karis tossed the lightsaber into the air and stuck her hands in front of the blade. It spun and came down, slicing Karis’s hands off.

“NO!!!!!! KILL HER!!!!!” screamed Darth Vaita.

“I CAN’T! I DON’T HAVE ANY HANDS!” Karis yelled back at her in agony. She watched as Darth Vaita picked up her severed hands and chucked them at her.

“YOU WERE SO CLOSE! SO CLOSE!” yelled Darth Vaita in anger. She started electrocuting Karis with her lightning hands. Karis screamed in agony, as Darth Vaita walked closer to her.

“You’ve still got some evil in you. I know it to be true. Oh, and guess what? Adala’s still alive,” sneered Darth Vaita. Karis’s face went pale. She had almost killed Turi over the death of her master that wasn’t even dead. Darth Vaita started cackling maniacally. Suddenly, a bright light shone around Darth Vaita as she was lifted into the air.

“You can’t escape the Dark Side,” yelled Darth Vaita before she disintegrated into a puff of smoke. Karis’s eyes bugged out.

“What happened?” she said out loud.

“Reverted to dust, her body was. Needed a new power supply, the force contained within her did. Too powerful, she was,” said Turi, staring at Karis. Master Turi closed her eyes.

“A disturbance in the force, I sense. Altered, the future has been,” she said, with a pained look on her face.”

“The future was altered?” said Karis, putting her stumps up to her face.

“Revoked, the prophecy has been?” said Turi, her ears perking up. “Prosper, the jedi must!”

“What?” asked Karis. “I don’t understand. Didn’t you want to kill the jedi?”

“The future I tried to alter. Convert to Dark side, you were supposed to. Convert the rest, you were supposed to. I did not want that to happen,” stated Turi.

“You were trying to protect us from the Dark Side by killing us off?” said Karis, shocked. “Is the Dark Side really worse that death?”

“Much chaos, there would have been. Millions dead, because of you,” said Turi, sadly. Karis thought back to her Wookieepedia article.

“Darth Sirak…” Karis trailed off. “Killed millions.” Karis shook her head.

“But that won’t happen now, will it?” she asked Turi, hopefully. Turi sighed.

“By you? No. But there is another,” said Master Turi in shame. “Take your place, she might.” Karis could tell by Turi’s tone it was urgent they stop whoever it was that would fulfill Karis’s place.

“Get you new hands, we shall,” said Turi, leading Karis out of the room. “A noble sacrifice, it was.” Karis smiled. Her future really was in her own hands.
