《The Otherworldly Treasure Hunt》Chapter 5 - A New Contender Appears (Part 2)

The area that Vic and Cuttison were walking through was a sight to see.
Previously all that Vic had seen of this otherworld were rain, monsters and flat expanses of grass. Now as he was walking, injured, he still saw rain and he felt there could be some monster around here somewhere, but at least there was some transition from the suffocating flatness from before.
He got to see torn up hills like scars of the Earth and he also got to see Cutt stop and stare at the person laying there.
The human lay spawn over the ground, their entirety covered by viscous mud and grass. It was almost as if they were something other than a person, something cut and removed from the sanitary vestments of society, thrust into the detritus, at least in Vic’s opinion.
I suppose that’s how I would’ve looked when this old guy found me
-but differing from Vic when he was in a similar situation, they were still conscious.
Cuttison had already found an injured person that day.
“Are you injured”
A person whose tribe, judging by the monster he found by the boy, had been decimated by the dammed rain dungeon. He would search for the tribe later, but he had to get the boy to Aerick, and besides the boy looked pretty shaken up.
Cuttison’s tribe was isolationist, they weren’t close to any other tribes and Cuttison wasn’t really close to anyone.
The lady locked eyes with him from their seated position, but they belayed an almost unnatural lack of intensity that Cuttison started to grow cautious before she replied.
“I don’t...”
She petered off but from that Cuttison guessed, she looked like she would survive and also, more importantly, that she was human. Looking at her position Cutt supposed she must of fallen down as this hill broke apart.

However unfortunately, Cuttison was in a rush. He looked at boy who didn’t meet his gaze, he was shivering, and Cutt looked back at the woman who still hadn’t moved, she met his eyes.
“need a hand”
However, she wasn’t staring at him anymore: her gazed moved and the boy had had took a few steps forward.
“uh are you Chinese?” the boy called croaked out unexpectadely.
“What?” the lady called out confused, an almost an offended edge to her tone, yet as Cutt observed, familiarity flashed on her eyes for all but a moment.
“Um, I mean are you from Ear—” the boy added much quicker, his voice cracking.
When Cuttison thought about it, although much more caked in dirt, the shirt the lady was wearing looked to be a similar material to the shirt the boy was wearing.
“yes”
Well, it seemed they were from the same tribe…
Cutt didnt think the luestem paste would hold the bleeding much longer.
“well, come on then, let’s go”
Also it seemed the boy had spat out the bark…
“take this and don't stop chewing, we aren’t that far”

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/

Until You Do It Right
The world ended on December thirty-first of the year two thousand and twenty, precisely at the stroke of midnight. The human race began to be systematically exterminated by the spawn of the System. We were given a chance to defeat them, to take back our place at the top of the food chain. We failed. The first to perish were those who bravely rebelled. The soldiers. The defenders. One by one, they fell. In their final moments, they begged for aid. Nobody replied. The next to succumb were those who feebly cowered. The deniers. The leeches. Together, they fell. In their final moments, they cried out into the darkness. Countless voices replied in kind. The last to decline were those who shamelessly ran. The deserters. The cowardly. Alone, they fell. In their final moments, they whimpered quietly. There was nobody left to answer. The final human to die was a survivor. A runner. As he died, he begged for salvation. His prayers were answered. He was offered a chance to save himself, along with all of humanity, and he took it. This is his story. “I sat in the dark and thought: There’s no big apocalypse. Just an endless procession of little ones.”― Neil Gaiman, Signal to Noise. I am absolutely new to writing and will take any and all constructive criticism. Please give feedback, it is greatly appreciated. I will update the tags as they change, and I hope that you enjoy this little story I'm writing! Quick warning: Seamus is intentionally a flawed character, and this story is going to explore those flaws and perhaps even change a few of them. I do not agree with all of his actions, but it is what it is.

The Archaic Elements
A fantasy world, its own unique power-up system, some mystery aspects to make it look interesting and an MC that should make sense but well messes up, cause plot. Flashy fights. Characters will use their brain, unless it is an arrogant young master that needs to be taught a lesson. The starting is slow and maybe boring. The main MC does not desire great strength or harbor any great ambition. He starts out as a naive, lazy and a boring person. But the story does hold one aspect which will fuel the growth of our MC, which is his boundless curiosity for adventure and his will to explore. The second MC is a reincarnation/transmigration and he has a clear cut aim that he needs to achieve. His past life experiences also becomes a pillar that will help guide the main MC, while his friend also supports him. The writing is slow and steady. I will provide reasonings behind most happenings and keep it a logical story. It's a WIP as I edit the previous chapters even as I release more, so while the content doesn't change, the style and smoothness improve. The current release rate is 3 chapter/week. There is no specific date as I can get sidetracked or forgetful., but I will try to stick to Tues, Thurs and Sunday releases.
