《The Mysterious Secret》Chapter 7

Me and Hannah looked at each other. Our worlds had been turned upside down and now were trapped and worried. Victor was going to have his lab workers test on us, and we had no defense against them. What do we do? What do we do? What do we do? Ideas raced through my mind, but none would work. And the fact that we could not move, nor shift, would give us zero opportunities. Then Hannah spoke.

"I sorry... I'm sorry I got us into this mess. I was wrong to think that we should have gone to the barn. In the end it ended up with us being trapped here... together." She managed to make a frown with her beak, causing me to follow suit.

Then I replied, "Like you said, we're together. That counts for something, right?"

"It does... in a respect." She replied. Then, as I was thinking... one of my ideas popped! I reached with my head and poked my beak into the small lock on the door of the cage. "What are you doing?" Asked Hannah. I was too busy concentrating that I did not hear her ask. I waited to hear a few clicks, then I turned... And surprisingly, the door opened, letting me out! I flew out and as quickly as possible, shifted to my original form, human. I started to search through the drawers for a key, all while Hannah's face was still in shock. My hands clasped around the last drawer and I tugged. No movement. Again I pulled and nothing was evident, but I then saw a keypad on the front. This could not be opened with a beak, I had to be strategical. Or not... I lifted my foot and slammed it down on the lock, causing the plastic to bust open. I put my hand inside and unlocked the drawer, pulling it open all the while. Inside was a key! Now I could hear Hannah attempting to open her cage, but she was in vein. I grabbed the key, ran to Hannah's cage, and put the key in. I willed it to open, turned... and the door opened! Hannah climbed out, shifted to human, and collapsed on the floor. I collapsed next to her. Our breathing was heavy, as we were still in shock of all the recent events. We lied there for a while, too exhausted to stand up. But then I realized that we probably didn't have much time, so I crawled up to my feet and stood. I walked to the door, wanting to peek if we had time. Now the doorknob was in easy reach. I put my hand around the cold, smooth silver and turned. Then the lights turned black, and all I could hear were my shuffling footsteps, and Hannah scrambling to get up.
