BEN'S POV:

I stood in my room staring out of the window letting my mind wander as I absentmindedly watched the Isle of the Lost, the tailor who was fitting me for my coronation suit poking and prodding me to get my measurements. My attention was brought back to the room at the sound of the door opening, I grinned and faced my parents. "Hi mom, pops." I greeted them as they smiled at me.

They smiled at me as they approached the podium I stood on, the tailor bowed respectfully. "How is it possible that our son will be crowned king next week, he's just a boy!" dad exclaimed as they stopped in front of me.

"He's turning 16, dear." Mom replied in a joking manner.

"Only 16? I didn't make a proper decision until I was at least 45" he said to her as he grinned.

Mom feigned being insulted. "Uh, you decided to marry me at 28!"

"Well it was either you or the teapot." dad jokingly retaliated, winking at me again, but upon seeing the look on mom's face he quickly covered up with an "I'm joking" and a laugh.

She rolled her eyes with a bright smile on her face and had turned to my bed, grabbing one of my shirts and beginning to fold. It was silent for a few seconds as I gathered up as much courage as I could, I attempted to step off the box, though I was quickly stopped by the tailor who was measuring my leg, I took a deep breath and finally announced "I have decided what my first proclamation as king will be." Both my mom and dad looked very surprised at this.

"Oh really?" Dad said sounding proud of what I was saying, I knew that wouldn't last long.

"Well, what will it be?" Mom asked sounding excited about the news.

Trying my best to even out my voice, to sound strong and defiant like a true king I replied "I have decided to give the children from the Isle Of Lost a chance at a normal life, here in Auradon."

Mom had dropped the shirt in shock at the news and dad was visibly mad, I tried not to gulp anxiously and held their gaze as the tailor gasped and hurried out of the room, the guards shut the doors behind him.

"The children of our sworn enemies, living among us?" Mom placed her hand on dad's arm which visibly calmed him a bit.

Mom smiled at me "Who are the parents?" I could tell she was trying to support me and the thought made me smile and gave me a boost of confidence.

Stepping down from the box I replied carefully "Well we should start off small, only with the ones who really need our help." I watched them as they anticipated the answer. "I have chosen the children of The Evil Queen, Cruella, Jafar and... and Maleficent!"

My dad was outraged "MALEFICENT!" he roared. "She is the worst of them all!" I sighed. "They are guilty of unspeakable crimes!" He exclaimed.

"Their children are innocent dad!" I retaliated, I didn't want to tell them the real reason why I wanted to bring Maleficent's daughter over to Auradon, they didn't need to know.

"I gave you a second chance." My mom reminded him with a comforting smile as he went to argue.

He took a deep breath and sighed "I suppose the children are innocent." Smiling in accomplishment I was approached by my mom who gave me a worried look. "Are you coming, dear?" Dad asked as he turned to leave the room.

She turned to him and shook her head. "In a second!" He nodded and waved his hand to us in a gesture of farewell before he left the room "Is there something else?" Mom asked as she led me to sit on my bed with her.

I took a deep breath and stared down at my hands "Honestly?" I asked, she gave me a nod and I sighed. "I think Briar could be on the Isle, with Maleficent and her daughter, Mal."

I felt my mom tense beside me and placed a supportive hand on her arm. "How do you know?" She whispered, tears in her eyes, it made me wish I hadn't said anything, I know how much it hurts her to think about my sister, it hurt us all.

"I have a feeling, I know everyone thinks she's-" I paused to take a shaky breath. "Gone, but I know she's okay. She has to be."

Mom smiled and wiped away her tears, standing and nodding her head. "You have my support, find her." At that moment she looked so strong yet so weak, so brave yet so scared and all I could do was pull her into a hug.

"I will," I promised.
