《The Crimson Castle》Chapter 10

Claire had never done any drugs before, sure she had gotten into her dad’s liquor cabinet late at night and tried vodka a few times, but nothing like this.
“Where did you get this?” Claire asked as she handed the vial back to Mel.
“I got it from a friend at school. It didn’t come cheap.”
“Have you ever tried it before?” Claire asked.
Mel couldn’t help but laughing out loud. “You are the one that got me into it! Nowadays I usually try to trip at least once a month, if I can get my hands on any of this stuff.”
Claire was starting to get the impression that the previous Claire was much different. For starters she had a boyfriend, and now she learned that she used to do drugs? And even got her little sister in to drugs!
“Yeah, I don’t know about this.” Claire said
“Oh my god, are you serious? It’s really not a big deal! Here, let’s head to my room and I’ll get the chemistry set out.” Mel said as she grabbed Claire’s hand and they both exited the room.
When they were in Mel’s room, Mel locked the door and they both sat down on Mel’s bed. Mel grabbed something that looked like a chemistry set and a bunch of filled vials from underneath the bed.
“Most of the poor folk get addicted on lesser potions. But, we aren’t losers like them, we can use the high quality stuff! Mel said.
Mel took out a mixing glass. “Here I’ll show you how to make Delectae. I make a good brew. Ironically, you are the one who taught me now, and now I’m teaching you. First you have the ingredients.” Mel reached for specific vials and continued. “Temporary Love Potion, Temporary Truth Potion - which is quite rare, Temporary Health Potion; all of these ingredients you can buy legally.” Mel held out the Delirious Vial. “This one, Is strictly black market. It’s easy for people from the noble sector to get, though.” Mel poured different amounts of the ingredients into the mixing glass. She then started to stir it in a circular motion. I don’t know if you know, but potions are dose dependent. So for example, if you took only a quarter of the truth potion, you might be able to resist telling the truth, although the drug would certainly try to compel you.

“Now this stuff is very potent so we just need a little bit to get high.” Mel poured a little bit of the concoction into a shot glass. “This one is for you. I gave you a very small dose. You should still have a good time.” Mel said as she handed the shot glass to Claire.
“How exactly will this make me feel?” Claire asked skeptically.
“Relax, you need to lighten up, this will do wonders for you. It just makes you feel good and you like to feel good don’t you?” Mel said as she playfully bumped shoulders with Claire.
“Okay, but are there any health risks?” Claire was still not convinced.
“No, not really, especially at the dose you are taking. I have already used all these ingredients before, so I know they are legit. Plus, the only really dangerous ingredient, the Delirious potion, I just put a drop in. Poor people literally use small drops of poison potions because they can’t afford some of the ingredients. Just trust me, I’m you sister, I would never try to do you harm.” Mel said as she looked at at Claire with puppy eyes.
Claire couldn’t believe that her sister was trying to get her to do a drug. She would have never imagined this scenario in a thousands years. But here she was, in a different world with her sister peer pressuring her into taking drugs.
“I don’t know Mel… I’ve never done anything like this before.” Claire said
“But you have! You just don’t remember it!” Mel replied.
“Does dad or mom know about this?” Claire asked.
“Of course not, they would probably kill us if they found out.”
Claire was not emotionally or mentally ready to try a hallucinogen. She had to find a way to excuse her self. “Well, I don’t think I’m ready for this, plus I have a lot of homework to do.” Claire lied about the homework.
“Oh don’t be such a wimp. Here I’ll take mine first.” Mel poured a generous serving of the concoction into her own shot glass. “Bottoms up” Mel said as she swallowed the liquid drug in one go.
“Are you going to be okay? How long does it take for it to start working.” Claire asked. She was really worried about her younger sister.

“It starts working pretty quickly, I can already feel the effects coming up. It feels a-mazing.” Mel enunciated the last word to emphasize it.
Claire had a hard decision to make. On the one hand she had been down lately because she was stuck in this world and she missed her real family and her friend Miranda. This family was close to the real thing, but there were important differences. On the other hand, doing drugs would not help her get back to the real world, it might cheer her up temporarily but she needed to try to beat the game. It wasn’t really clear to Claire how she would return to the real world yet. That depressed her, what if she was going to be stuck here for the rest of her life? Never seeing her real family or friends again. Claire thought about it for a bit. “Okay, maybe I do need something to cheer me up. Just this once.” Claire thought.
“Alright, I’ll try it.” Claire said as she drank down the liquid drug. It tasted like orange juice.
Mel with a full grin said “You are in for a treat.”
Claire could feel the effect of the drug affecting almost instantly. The world around her began to look even more real than it did before. Colors were more vibrant than ever before. Claire had her own personal light show in whatever direction she looked. wherever Claire looked it was like she was focused in on that one thing only. There was a growing sensation of calmness that started in her gut and was beginning to pulse through her body. It was coming in waves. “Wow” was the only word Claire could say as she fell back on to the bed. Mel laughed when she heard this. Claire couldn’t help herself from laughing from the sound of Mel’s laughing.
They both laughed for a minute and then calmed down a bit.
“See this isn’t too bad” Mel said chuckling sporadically.
“Yeah, not too bad” Claire said in between giggles.
Claire’s thoughts had a focus and intensity that she had never experienced before as well. She felt part of this world, not separate from it. Claire thought this would be a good time to probe for information.
“I’ve got a question Mel.” Claire said.
“Shoot”
“Who did I hang out with before I was, what’s the word for it, amnesiaed?”
“Hmm, you hung out mainly with your boyfriend Duke Gibby and his friends I’d say.”
“Really? He seems like a douche.” Claire responded.
“You seemed to like him before. In fact, there were rumors going around that you two were going to get married.”
“Weird. I don’t seem to like him anymore.”
Claire and Mel talked about various topics including fashion and food until suddenly someone knocked at the door.
Mel and Claire looked at each other with anxiety. If it was one of their parents they could get into real trouble.
“Who is it?”Mel asked softly.
“It’s me, Emily.” the voice from outside said. Claire and Mel both took in a sigh of relief.
Mel stood up and went over to the door to unlock it and then walked over to collapse on the bed again.
Emily, the servant, came in.
“S-sorry to bother you two, but there is someone at the front door looking for you Claire. He wants you to come down to talk to him.” She said.
“Who is it?” Claire asked.
“High Duke Gibby Rasim.” the servant responded.
“Tell that loser Gibby, Mr. High Duke himself, to go fuck himself.” Claire laughed uncontrollably. “And use my exact words!”
“Yes miss.” Emily said as she left the room.
Mel and Claire laughed together. Claire was laughing probably harder than she had ever laughed before. She was glad she was bonding with her little sister or better put, this representation of her little sister. They talked for a bit longer, Claire learned more about her sister in this world. Eventually, Claire was just talking out loud to herself as Mel had gotten too tired to stay awake. When Claire noticed Mel was asleep Claire became sleepy her-self. She got out of Mel’s bed and went directly to her room where she immediately fell asleep on her own bed.
