《Eternal Luck》To Free My Son

"Thank you, Fairy Darkchild!" little Ryatt said while staring at the card incredulously. "Ohoho," I chuckled, pleased with the boy's word choice. I looked at Kiya Prozen and said, "You’ve raised quite a brave and charming boy. Don’t worry, Lady Kiya. Internal Affairs will immediately receive my report. This matter will not end here." The faces of all the officials behind us turned sour. "Thank you, Lady Supervisor," Kiya Prozen replied with a gentle smile.
Her thin face combined with her big cheeks and deep dimples were striking. Even though I was another woman, I still felt shy and giddy in the face of this gorgeous woman. "Mn," I smiled and then glared at Ria Bookend and his cohorts one last time before departing. "Let’s go, Lucky," Kiya Prozen said from behind me, also rising to take her son by the hand. "Miss Prozen...I mean, Lady Raizen, we are not finis…" Ria Bookend became extremely angry when Kiya started to leave as well and raised his voice to boom across the hall. After all, they had yet even to deliver the verdict! How could the boy just leave? Ria's heroic pressure spread out aggressively. Kiya stopped walking, and suddenly an oceanic wave-like pressure crashed down onto the shoulders of everyone but her son. Outside the hall, even I was forced to pause by the sensation of a viper staring me down. I looked back in shock. "That woman…she was actually so powerful?" I was stunned. The mother possessing this level of strength made it clear they didn't have a humble background. "I must make this report immediately. We have to secure that child for the World Government!" Inside the hall, Ria Bookend and the other officials were staring with wide eyes at the no longer meek and gentle Kiya Prozen. Kiya’s clothes fluttered without the wind, and her beautiful blue eyes seemed to be shining with a soft golden light. Every official in the hall felt as if a superior life-form had just descended, and many of them fell to their knees while shaking uncontrollably. However, in the next instant, that terrifying pressure vanished without a trace.
Mr. Bookend’s pants now had an additional wet spot on them. "For you to not kneel under the pressure of a tenth of my power base, the Wonder Corporation’s new valor pill can already be called a success," spat Kiya coldly. "Do not think that I care to play your trivial mortal games. I only felt curious about my husband's work. If you do not want my son here, then we shall leave. However, if you dare insult or disrespect us again, I will not be so tolerant." After speaking, Kiya had already dragged her stupified son out of the building. The officials all stood in a daze, as did I. "T-th-that woman…that wave of power," stammered the silver-haired, hunched-back woman in fear. "That was profound aura! She is a profounder, just like that man! We’ve been duped!" "We accomplished our aim, but we just offended two major powers," sighed the middle-aged man in his deep voice. "It definitely wasn’t worth it." ------- — New Origin City Inner Sector, Governmental District Kiya's Heart: Inside of a sleek black luxury hovercraft, I poured my son a drink while Susan and I laughed and drank in the extended back seat. The driver glanced at the rear-view window and smiled before raising the heavily tinted window to give us privacy. "Magus Kiya Prozen, I truly had no idea you were so powerful," smiled Susan Darkchild, adding a title to my name out of respect. I accepted her flattery graciously, allowing her to pour me more wine. Susan smiled, "It is truly my honor to have met you today." "If only we could have met under warmer circumstances," I rolled my eyes at my son, who was bouncing around the back seat like he had discovered a new world. I swear it was only times like this that he showed the regular emotions a child should have. He was truly too excitable when it came to nice things.

My son had never been in a luxury vehicle before. This was not because our family could not afford it. This was because Marc decided to have Ryatt go without luxurious things to temper his humble heart. In Marc’s words, this was the only way for Riot to one day discover heroism. What a load of horse shit. I knew that it was bullshit. I had truly let Marc get away with too much in my charmed state. I poured Lucky another glass of spirit fruit juice and watched my little boy’s face light up with glee and surprise as he drank it. This scene left Supervisor Darkchild rather confused. Either this kid loved cars and fruit juice a LOT, or he came from an impoverished family. Since Supervisor Darkchild knew that the latter was completely illogical, she could only accept the former. "This brand of spirit fruit juice is called Eastmarch. Do you like it, young man?" asked Supervisor Darkchild as Lucky ceaselessly begged me for more. It was moments like these when I sort of missed auto-pilot.
"It’s really great, miss pretty fairy!" Ryatt said excitedly. However, I quickly rapped him on the head. After an *ouch*, my son smiled mischievously and said, "Sorry. It’s really great, Fairy Darkchild!" "Lucky, you…*sigh*, my apologies Supervisor Darkchild," I said apologetically, exasperated by my son's lack of decorum. "Oh, not at all, Lady Magus," Supervisor Darkchild didn’t dare accept an apology from a profounder. "Actually, the place I’m bringing you and your son too is a bit of a hot topic these days. One of the profounders of the World Government has arrived at our office for the last leg of his station’s training. While he’s here, he has decided to accept a new disciple or two for his school. Since he’s willing to pick up a humble disciple, this disciple would also have access to the resources of the World Government." "Are you recruiting my Ryatt to be that disciple on his behalf, Miss Darkchild?" my voice was rather plain and lacking its previous respect as I sipped my wine. The woman's words led me to believe she had an agenda in being so kind and easy to speak with. I hated being manipulated into decisions the most, so I played the simplest card. One that was actually true. "Unfortunately, I’m not sure my husband would be very pleased about that." "I wouldn’t dare, Fairy Prozen!" Supervisor Darkchild only became more respectful and pleasant upon sensing my displeasure. "I wouldn’t even have the authority to do such a thing. What I want to do, is introduce Ryatt to our profounder personally. After all, Ryatt is a talented child, and our profounder happens to be my own fiance. I’m very certain Ryatt will not remain among the humble. I just want to be a part of his success." Supervisor Darkchild’s face became more serious at this moment, "As Ryatt already has you and your husband at his back, I imagine you don’t need much assistance in his grooming. However, if you have any…challenges that prevent you from attending to his grooming, this could be a wonderful opportunity for him to join a new school. A real school for mana training." I fell silent. Obviously, this woman was not a fool. Supervisor Darkchild could sense that something wasn’t right about our situation. Why would such a talented child be at a humble school? Especially one with profounder parents. This was something most people would ask if they thought about it. On top of that, I even came to fight for a chance for my son to stay enrolled. Why would a profounder go through such trouble? I would be just as suspicious as I knew this woman had become. "Ah! Mom, can I have more juice? " my son suddenly popped up in-between the two of us with an empty glass. He turned his head to the right and said, "Oh yeah, Supervisor Darkchild, are we really going to meet the profounder?" Hearing his mother’s change in attitude towards this woman, Ryatt’s attitude subconsciously changed as well. I smiled smugly, thinking my little brat was just too cute today.

Supervisor Darkchild only felt bitter upon noticing this. However, she smiled sweetly at my son and said, "We definitely are! He should have already finished assessing new candidates at the gates. I heard he picked up two new students, which is very surprising! This morning he wasn't optimistic about finding a worthy humble student. It's only because of the alma mater that he accepted this assignment. He must be in a good mood if he actually picked up two students. This is the perfect time to interrupt him." "Mom, please~~," my handsome little boy looked at me with a pleading gaze. I felt my frozen heart melting in an instant, much to my annoyance. Ryatt pouted and looked at me with dewy eyes, "I only had one chance to see the profounder, and all my friends had to go without me because of this stupid hearing!" Exposing ourselves this much could lead to many repercussions, as I was supposed to be incapable of certain actions and decisions without Marc. However, things concerning my kids were always something that could alter the curse's effectiveness. It was a thin line.
To free my son, I had to walk carefully without looking down.
I had never let Lucky roam around the city, as I didn’t want to upset his step-father. Lucky was completely unresigned, but he knew he would only be allowed to see the profounder if I agreed. He was incredibly obedient to me, even though I didn't believe I deserved it or had earned it much lately. I looked down at my son and released a soft sigh.
It was true that he had begged me for a long time about going to see this profounder.
Considering the injustice my son suffered earlier, I couldn’t think of a single reason to reject him. However, in normal circumstances, the curse would force me to reject him anyway.
How should I react?
Rather than responding, I just turned my head to gaze out of the window. The Provincial Supervisor smiled and took my actions as tacit agreement. I suddenly felt quite fond of this intelligent young lady. An hour later, the hovercraft game to a stop inside of a large military base. Supervisor Darkchild escorted us to the third-largest building in the base. "Lieutenant Colonel Flash Northson is our World Government’s youngest power refiner to reach the profound state," Supervisor Darkchild smiled as she explained the profounder's background. Darkchild spoke more to me than Lucky, as she knew my knowledge of the world should be more profound than her own. "At age 31, his valor heart evolved into a profound heart, allowing him to become a real Wondergod. After that, he used less than ten years to reach the profound state as a power refiner. His father is a true divinity born at the profound state, while his mother is one of the World Government’s most influential great generals. Both his parents are at the Mana Disciple level of power. You can imagine his talent." I smiled but remained silent as she led my son by the hand. Lucky was annoyed by this, but I refused to let go. I definitely couldn't risk him wandering off somewhere. Lucky had grown up a lot, but children would always be childish! I didn't want him talking to a single soul more than what was necessary: the fewer people who saw him here, the better.

The Coles are probably the definition of a small dysfunctional family, even if they weren’t the worst in existence; they would probably be lauded as an example of the term. The Coles were a small family though. The father, Oliver Cole, was an asshole ex-football jock who bounced around in small paying jobs after wasting most of his life drinking, drugging and whoring. The daughter, Stacy Cole, was smart, but had many issues including anger, trouble with authority, and occasional suicidal thoughts, and was kicked out of many a school for disruptive behaviour. The son, Mike Cole, was innocent, and tried his best to be kind to anyone and everyone, however his own speech impediment, and slow nature only aided people to bully and belittle him, including his own father. The Coles were indeed a dysfunctional family. At least they were, until they got to the small town near the border between the United States and Canada, Sanguine. Welcome to Sanguine. You will stay. With the exception of the first chapter, each chapter only follows one character. The first chapter is the only chapter in which I will include 'Sides' where it follows a different character. This is a short Lovecraftian story, it won't go above seventeen chapters. Note: the book cover is my first attempt, it might not even remain like it is, I was just tired of seeing the standard 'no cover' thing on it.
