《Just a Lowly Monster》Truth

Lessons with Nyx began the next day. After I finished my chores, Nyx brought me into a large library full of scrolls and ancient texts. Almost immediately, she began talking.
"The first thing you're learning today, is of this world. Right now, you are in my domain inside Tartarus. This is the depths of Hell where the strongest monsters and evilest beings are imprisoned. This mansion is in my territory Any living things in my domain are my subordinates and reside in the Dark Plains. That's where I picked you up from. Above Tartarus is the underworld. One of the younger gods, uhh, Hats? Heyd? One of them rules there. Then there's the surface, or earth. That's Gaea's territory. Then the sky which is Ouranus' the last I checked."
"…" I could feel something nagging at me as she described the world.
'Hey system, does Nyx count as a greater god?'
'Yes host. As a primordial, while her ranking is on the lower end of the multiverse's god standings, she is still considered a greater god.'
"Nyx-sam-sensei. Could I please ask a favor for your pupil?"
"Cheeky brat. Go ahead. Though I won't guarantee an agreement."
"Could you check if you can do anything about my sealed memories?"
She tilted her head in confusion. "Sealed memories?"
"Yes, sensei. A while ago, I found out that the majority of my memories have been sealed."
"Very well. I shall see."
She extends her divinity into me and I begin squirming as it feels like she's breaking down my brain. She starts to mutter under her breath and my brain suddenly flares in pain. I grunt and duck my head. What's going on? I grit my teeth and hold my head. I wasn't prepared for the recoil of her tampering with my mind. As I lose my consciousness, I groan and signal the worried Nyx to continue. I thud on the floor, and before my eyes close, I hear Nyx shouting.

"Reiko-san. Reiko-san!"
I open my eyes. There's a girl shaking me. She has long, straight black hair. She's wearing knee high white socks and a checkered skirt. Ah. What's her name? I can't remember. Wait! Su, Su, Su, SUZUME.
My…childhood friend? What is she doing here? AH. My head hurts.
Suzume stands over me, concerned.
"Etto, let's get you to the nurse. Reiko-san did you stay up too late watching anime."
I frown. Anime? What is she talking about?
"Ne, Suzume, where am I?"
"Eh? Are you okay Reiko-san?"
"What happened?"
"We were walking home when you suddenly fell down. I was so scared Reiko-san. You meanie!"
She fake pouts at me and I can't help but laugh. I reach into my pocket and feel a hard rectangular box? I take it out and a screen similar to my status, albeit smaller, flashes. On the screen is a picture of a woman with a brown bun pointing her sword at me.
Then as if the dams break, a flood of memories pour into me. I scream and fall to my knees. Suzume rushes to me but my world goes pitch black again.

'Soft'. I'm lying down on something incredibly soft. I open my eyes and see a face I would never expect. My teacher and master, Nyx. She has a worried expression as she looks down on me. Yep. The soft things were her thighs. I just received a lap pillow from a goddess.
Putting that weirdness aside, I think about what I could only assume was a dream. I shiver, thinking about Suzume. I wonder what she's doing now. Interrupting my thoughts, Nyx gently lowers my head off her lap.
"Hey you okay? I tinkered with the seal and then you suddenly collapsed."

I nod slowly. Thinking back to the information that flooded into my head, I almost jumped in excitement. 'That's it' I almost shout.
My stomach churns as I think about what I just found out. In my past life, I remember reading about something called mythology. There were tales of gods and monsters dating back thousands of years. And now, I was living amongst them. On this Earth, those legendary beings were very much real. In front of me was living proof of them. At my revelation, I could only shiver as goosebumps exploded on my arms.

Solstice Anthology
A collection of short stories I've written over the past few years, the centerpiece being "Solstice" itself: On the Winter Solstice, the wind whispered. It roared and blew across the world, and reached even the Heavens above. With it, the great cold of winter flooded across that higher plane, and the gods staggered. They felt the golden dust of their divinity drift away from them, and the message of that wind became clear… This Winter will never end so that the Earth will.
