Teardrops cascade down my face, cutting through my makeup.

I’m inwardly cringing at how messed up my face must look, but… I can’t help but shake the sense of loss that’s overcome me. Everything felt warm and familiar, and… safe. And now it’s just… gone. I wonder if these are tears of frustration, or loss.

But what did I even lose?

I look over to Purple, and see her wiping her eyes as well.

What did… we lose?

I clear my throat.

“... That was… magic, right? A spell?”

Purple gingerly picks up the cards, and nods.

“I wonder…” I move closer to her. “I wonder what it was.”

“... She called us, her ‘legacies.’ She must’ve been involved with something, and now we have to continue it.” Purple started to shuffle through the cards. They’re all… blank.

At the back of my mind, I’m thinking - a lady dies probably in front of us, and leaves behind two crying young adults, and a deck of empty cards…? Uh…?

And I’m about to voice this thought, when Purple stumbles upon two cards, in full colour;

“‘The Hermit,’” I pluck the upside-down card from the deck, holding it between my fingers.

“... and ‘The Devil.’” she takes the upright card, and putting aside the rest of the deck.

“These are tarot cards, right?” I eye them curiously. “You can, like, tell the future with these?”

A grin spreads across my face, trying to change the mood. “We could use these to… predict who we’re going to marry…?!”

Purple wrinkles her nose. “You want to predict who we’ll marry with two tarot cards?”

“Depends, is it possible?”

“Why do you want it to be possible?”

“You don’t wanna get married one day?”

And Purple sucks in a sharp breath. “... why are we talking about this?”

I go quiet.
