Chapter 2

*In the Grandmaster’s office*

“Konoe-sama I don’t think this a good idea.” Negi stated. Behind him, Sage was frantically destroying Konoemon’s furniture.

Konoemon sweat dropped at the shear destruction happening behind the young mage and how nonchalant he was about it. “It’s not that bad. Every month you swap rooming with your students the more time we could figure out your living situation.”

Sage stomped over to the man and yelled, “Are you nuts? Why would you board a young man in a room with young women? I don’t care if it is my brother or not, that is a recipe for a child! I also don’t care that every month we will swap the dorms we are in for someone else. That is a giant recipe for children!”

Konoemon laughed. “Hoho, it’s fine I believe. I bet Negi isn’t that type of man.”

He gave a nervous laugh. “I can only promise they won’t be pregnant Konoe-sama.”

A silence permeated the air until Sage screamed, “I told you it’s going to be a problem!”

The older man leaned back in his chair. “Yes, this will be an issue, won’t it?”

Negi waved his hands. “It’s fine. We can sleep in the forest. I told you we are used to it.”

The elder mage shook his head. “I can’t do that either. I guess I have to take your word Negi.”

The red head blinked. “My word on what?”

Konoemon leaned forwards. “Not impregnating them of course.”

“WHAT!!!”

*Two Hours Later; Near the Cafeteria*

“I can’t believe his is serious. I mean how reckless can he get?’ Sage exclaimed to her twin. The duo was heading to the cafeteria for a few munchies then were going to their new dorms.

Negi shook his head. “I don’t understand. I really don’t. He basically gave me permission to lay with Konoka-chan.”

The twins sighed, exasperated. They hoped nothing else would surprise them when they finally reached the door to their destination. Negi opened the door, ready to see a of food plate waiting to be made when a loud pop and bright colors flashed his eyes.

“Welcome Springfield Sensei’s!” The class of 2-A, Takahata and Shizuna yelled. They planned a party for the new teachers and were ready to see their surprised faces only to see a shocking sight. Negi was in a combat stance with the fiercest face they ever seen and he was holding his staff in an unnamed martial arts style. Meanwhile, Sage pulled out a composite crossbow. She was ready to shoot at any moment.

They stayed that way for a while the relaxed when they realized the class wasn’t their enemies. Negi started to laugh nervously while Sage just folded the bow back and clip it to her side.

“Ah! Our apologizes! Sage and I have been in war for such a long time. It’s a habit for us to be on guard.” He pulled Sage in for a one arm hug. “She has been a bit more affected than me. She actually has permission to bring a crossbow as long as she doesn’t hurt any innocents.”

Yotsuba Satsuki smiled at them. “It’s ok Negi-Sensei. Have one.” She offered them a meat bun.

He thanked her and took a small bite from the meal. Then he froze, making them wonder if there was something wrong. Sage was about to touch him when he took her meat bun and her wallet.

Negi shoved 35,000 yen in Satsuki direction. “I am paying for meat buns every day for lunch. When the amount of meat buns exceeds how much a I pay you, call me.” Sage did not question his actions and wrote down their phone number for her personal use.

Satsuki was surprised by their uniform and intense actions but she was able to hide it. “Ah. No need Negi-Sensei, I’ll bring you meat buns anyway.”

Negi stared at her for a moment then placed the money in her hands. “No such thing. You need to be paid for you work. Your food is flavorful and comforting. It would be insulting if you do not take my money.”

She hesitantly collected the yen and gave them a deep bow. “Thank you for the business.” Then scurried away to serve food to the others.

Asuna said, surprised. “Wow. You spent a lot of money at once.”

Negi nodded his head while munching on his meat bun. “Ah! Yes. We did much work during a war. When we found our sister, she was able to take our funds and invest heavily. We take a percent but we don’t use it often. It feels good to buy something so frivols.”

The rest of the party was spent with the twins socializing with their students. Yukihiro Ayaka surprised them with a brass bust of both of the teachers. While the twins were wondering how was it possible for its existence, a certain bell wearing redhead started a fight with her. Miyazaki Nodoka brought the twins coupons to the bookstore she works part time at. He was thankful and gave her gentle hug. The blue haired girl was not used to close contact with a male then fainted in his arms. Ayase Yue gave him a cherry and cod flavored juice box as a present. The class was prepared to see their teachers throw up but they drank their box and ask if there was more. The stoned face girl gave them two more boxes and walked over to her friends, pleased.

Negi was feeling a bit overwhelmed with the amount of people trying to get to know him thus causing him to leave and take a breather. While he was out in the garden, a small pigeon came to him with a note in its beak. He gave the pigeon a cracker then read the note. The note was blank par two numbers in the center. It took him a moment to realized that was the numbers Negi and Sage was assigned to stay for the month. He sighed, de-aging almost four years from releasing his tense face. He stared at the note a few moments longer then shoved it his pocket. He placed a fake smile and returned to the party.

*Two hours later, Hallway*

“Ah, I forgotten how it feels to be around people our ages again!” Sage exclaimed while stretching.

After the party Negi decided it was would be best if they collected their items and decided who takes what. After thirty minutes of removing items from Sage’s magically enhanced backpack and storing items in suitcase for Negi, they were ready to move in. She took his staff while he had her crossbow clipped to his side. It was unusual but there was a reason to it. During the Flaron War, they begin a ritual of passing off their personal items to the other. This was a represent they would come back to retrieve their beloved item, coming back alive.

The male redhead nodded silently; the gathering drained him of much of his energy.

Sage kissed him on the cheek then left to find her dorm. Negi was pleased he wrote the number on her arm or else she would have been lost.

He quickly navigated his way down the long hallways and until he reached his stop. He glanced at the note then at the room number for a quick confirmation; he eventually knocked on the door gently. He stood there, listening to the sounds of feet shuffling to the door and the slight chime of bells. The door opened and a surprised Zazie stared into his impassive eyes. She blushed as his dark red eyes swept her body, focusing on her jester hat with bells for a few seconds then back at her eyes.

“…” Zazie gestured at his eyes.

“I’m surprised you remembered. Yeah, my eye changes color based on my mood.” She had noticed his eyes were a bright red earlier and now are a dangerous dark red.

“…?” The dark skinned girl pointed at her door.

“The old fool told me to room here for a month. If you don’t want me here, then I could leave.”

She held his hand and led him to the living room. He was mildly surprised to see Kaede and Mana sitting at futon with a mini grill discussing magical weapons. He noticed Mana have already aimed her pistol at his head, cocked and ready to fire while Kaede had a sword to Mana’s throat.

He chuckled. “I guess this a good time to say, ‘I’m famished’.” He saw Mana grip tighten and Kaede’s sword grow closer to the half-demon’s neck.

The mage sighed and sat down with the barrel of the gun at his temple. “You know I had nothing to do with what happened that day right? You know this due to me being preoccupied with my fight you.”

Mana said nothing but her grip loosened. Negi continued. “I may know who killed him but I have not spoken to that person for years. In fact, I try to avoid her myself. That was an unauthorized move. If I knew I could seek legal action, I would have her arrested for the unnecessary murder. Unfortunately, she went by a codename and I could not find enough evidence to place her under arrest.”

She held her arm in that pose for a few more seconds, trying to build the nerve to shoot him then dropped it. She glared at him and demanded. “Tell me all you know.”

He smiles at her. “Of course. She is a demon and noble. The issue is most of the noble demons and their children were involved in that war. It’s hard to tell who killed Payki but I can tell you she is not a minor noble. I am not telling you who she is outright because she will kill you.”

Mana cursed under her breath then stocked off to her room. She gave him one last glare then a small nod.

Negi dropped his smile and let his bags show. He turned to Kaede then asked, “Is she always that intense?”

The ninja shook her head. “No ~ue.”

The teen mage sighed then laid on the floor. “I would use magic to summon my storage room but I’ll sleep on the floor. I’m too drained.”

The young woman patted his forehead then retreated to her bed.

He stayed there for a while then muttered in Latin. “Someone is watching us. A demon.”

He grunted when he stood up then left the room muttering about shipping pieces of demons back the capital.
