《A Collection of Short Stories: Quiet Girl》27. Opportunity of a Lifetime

Money wasn’t part of the reason why Cassie wanted to help Brayleigh do this, honestly she really did just dislike bad wording. Like that texting shit was fine, but when people really do think the correct way to say hurt is hurted that’s where she needs to take a stand and if Brayleigh’s song was gonna be her starting point, then she would give it her all.

Cassie texted Brayleigh that she was outside his apartment and he let her inside. She got inside his home and noticed that it looked like a typical guy’s place. She had never been here before so she took in her surroundings but quickly heard other voices… ones she recognized.

“Uh, is anyone else here?” She asked walking behind him.

“Yeah, are you not okay with that?” Brayleigh said with a smile.

“No, it’s actually just because it’s related to something I wanted to ask you. What’s the company that asked you to compose this song?” He smiled as they kept walking and what she saw answered her question.

“It’s actually CirclePoint. I can't believe they took a shot on me, especially with a debut album.”

“We were shocked too!” Terumichi said.

“But to know you were the help Brayleigh said he was gonna get, it kind of caught me off guard." Amai chuckled, "What if one day we’re all famous whatevers and people ask if we knew each other before?” They all went on talking about this scenario, meanwhile Cassie just stood there in complete disbelief that they were all here. Brayleigh’s house, with Terumichi and Amai? I gotta get out of here.

“But let’s get to work, Cassie only has today off.”

“Oh, what story are you working on this time?” She gave Terumichi a small smile.

“Ask her about that later," Amai interrupted, "I’m curious too, but we’ll get too invested if we ask her now.” Terumichi chuckled and pulled himself up further on the bed.

“Okay, why we’re all here is because Michi needs the lyrics to be good so he can actually sing them, which is why I called Cassie to help with rhyme and anything else. I’m working with Amai on the beat, so it’s something he likes or that can actually be danced to well.” Brayleigh explained the break down.

"Speaking of which, Cassie, do you think you could read what I wrote and see if it makes sense?" Cassie smiled at him and nodded as she took his notebook, Terumichi then smiled and moved to sit closer to her. This earned a sneer from Amai. "Hmm?" Terumichi asked. Amai sighed and said nothing, him and Brayleigh moved to his desktop and they all went to work.

After a few minutes, Cassie explained the lyrics were fine in her opinion, she barely had any complaints about them aside from her usual hatred of certain words. They were able to finish pretty early and left Brayleigh to the finalization of the demo.

“That was easier than I thought.” Amai stated leaning back.

“Because it’s a song I already composed years ago. It was worked on countless times before this.” Brayleigh explained.

“Still, I can’t wait until it comes out. Maybe we’ll even get a cool teaser with the song on it, I hope if they do that I’m the one they use the song with!” Amai said.

“How about me? I’m the one who has pretty much all the vocals in this song." Terumichi explained.

“As you always do Mr. Line distribution.”

“It’s not my fault and you know it.”

“I know Michi, but I gotta give myself an edge somehow. I think this is the best song on the album, so if I’m paired with it, naturally people will begin to like me more!” Amai said with a puffed chest, Cassie found herself giggling. Amai looked at her. “What are you laughing for?”

“No reason.” It's just that you really think people don’t like you? The life of a beautiful person I guess.

“Well, I’ll be working on this for a while so you guys can leave if you want.” Brayleigh said, then that’s my cue to leave. Cassie got up and was about to dismiss herself when Terumichi grabbed her arm.

“You’re really leaving?” He said with a tenderness in his voice.

“Yeah I-” Shit, I forgot what I was gonna say!

“See? So you can stay over with us for a while longer then.” Cassie wanted to say something else to him, but what could she? She dropped her bag and sat back down getting looks of approval from all the boys in the room.

You better be glad you guys are pretty.
