《A Collection of Short Stories: Quiet Girl》26. Help Around the Office

What was going on? Why did Ankara need her help specifically? Cassie had been asking these questions to all of her female friends and so far they all had the same answer.
Office sex.
No. She thought, this wasn't going to be that and even if it was... No! Her and Ankara's business was professional, no way in hell was she gonna screw herself over some good looks.
Cassie thought this while walking into the building and once there she made her way to the floor he was on. She found his office door and let herself inside after announcing her arrival.
Ankara looked up and gave her a big smile, he set down the papers he was holding onto the desk and tried to walk over to her. This would have been possible if it weren't for the papers that threatened to become the floor. Shit was everywhere and Cassie's OCD wasn't standing for this.
"Sorry about the mess," He said after a while, "But I'm glad you agreed to help me with all this." She smiled and removed her bag, setting it down on the only clear space in the office.
"Of course, but... what exactly am I doing to help you?"
"Really I just need you to help me clear all of this out. These are papers from last year and with how much more work we're bringing in, I don't exactly need it." She nodded and picked up a random pile. "Anything with last year's date on it is put in this pile, I'll review it later and see if I really need it." Cassie nodded and began to look at the papers. Well suck it, you bitches were wrong, ain't no way we're having sex in this mess... should I really be happy about that?

...
Their cleaning went on for nearly half the day as she had arrived here early in the morning and now it was late in the afternoon. Cassie felt like she had paper cuts over her... everything from how much paper she shifted through, but their work went well as eventually they could see the floor again.
They kept working until late into the night until eventually they had gotten everything sorted. Ankara would just have to decide if any of this was worth keeping, which in Cassie's opinion wasn't.
Cassie still sat on the floor and stretched her stiff limbs, she heard Ankara laugh and she looked to him.
"I really have to thank you somehow for this. I hope I didn't get in the way of any work you were doing." Even if you did, I don't work on shit until I'm nearly passed out from sleep exhaustion.
"No, I wasn't doing anything today, I wanted to give my eyes a bit of a break. Physical paper is a nice change of pace." He laughed with her.
"Still, how about I repay you somehow?" No.
"Oh that's alright." Cassie said politely
Ankara nodded, "If you insist, but don't think twice about ever asking me for anything." He was walking closer to her, "I'll help you no matter what it's for." Cassie gave him a sweet smile, but internally she wanted to jump out the window. The floor was only ten stories down, she'd be fine, better than she was in here at least.
"Okay, I'll be sure to remember that." Cassie hoped she didn't sound to panicked. Ankara smiled at her and Cassie moved to get her bag making the worst expression she could while having her back turned.
She then began to make her way out the room and the building. By the time she got back to the entrance and onto the street, Jessica called her.

"Hey?" Cassie said as she answered her phone.
"So was I right?" Jessica's voice was confident. Cassie sighed.
"You're so invested in my... whatever this is. Why do you care so much?"
"Because I love to be right, plus I wanna know if Ankara that kind of guy or not."
"Says the girl with a boyfriend."
"That's exactly why I want to know, I'll never get the chance to find out for myself." Jessica explained.
Cassie sighed again, "Well anyways, no we didn't do anything..." She stopped walking, "But he-"
"Yeah?"
"H-he wanted me to ask him for some kind of favor for helping him out."
"You turned him down didn't you?"
"Fuck else was I suppose to do? Say, hey your cock had been on my menu for quite some time, think I can get it here?"
Jessica laughed, "That sounds terrible, no wonder guys just like you, you could never flirt with anyone." Cassie groaned slightly and just thanked the fact that she was alone on the street and hopefully no one heard that. "Still, you know you like these guys so why not just date one of them already?"
"Okay, obviously you forgot who you're talking to. I don't know what I'd do if any one of these people asked me out, let alone asked to fuck me or even marry me. Honestly I think my heart would just stop working... that or they'd be so offended by my lack of facial emotion they'd think I got an insurance plan out on them."
"Okay, I doubt if they'd ever think that and besides you do show emotion. Only when you're totally comfortable, so let one of these guys do that!"
"Jess no. Drop it because it'll never happen." She sighed.
"Alright, but don't come crying to me if you die alone."
"At least I won't be a cat lady." Cassie said. Jessica laughed before hanging the phone up. Cassie put hers away and just shook her head as she resumed walking back to her apartment.
