《A Collection of Short Stories: Quiet Girl》14. Double... no, triple Date!?

"So you mean to tell me that somehow Chris asked you out on a date and wants me to be there with you?" Quana asked Cassie.
"Y-yeah... of course he wants you there!" Quana laughed.
"I hate him and he hates me, why would either of us want that?" Cassie shrugged. "Well, unless you give me some kind of reason as to why I should be there I won't go."
"Quana please! I can't be on this date alone."
"Then just decline him."
"How can I?"
"Like this: fuck off Chris."
"You know I won't say that, besides unlike you I actually think he's cute."
"So then you won't go out with him why?"
"Because that's crazy! Maybe I should just admire him from afar and leave it at that." Quana laughed.
"You're a train wreck Cassie. Look even if I go, all he's gonna do is be making googly eyes at you and I'll be a third wheel, so how about we just make this a group date and I invite Keris."
"Are you sure Chris just wouldn't use that as an excuse to get alone with me, because there are too many girls around?"
"Probably, he's a loser like that so I wouldn't be surprised. So how about I invite Hayate too?" Cassie wasn't too sure about that, but him and Chris were friends so maybe this would go well in the end.
"Alright then, but you better not be late!"
"I won't be. Now, can we go back to picking a place to eat?"
...
The afternoon came and Cassie and Quana met up where Chris had invited them too, however, Chris was late and Hayate had shown up around the same time Keris did. So now they were all just waiting on Chris.

"Chris invited you, but is keeping you waiting? Maybe we should just leave already." Hayate said.
"No, I think he'll be here." Cassie said.
"Even if he does he's still late," Hayate crossed his arms, "That's something a girl shouldn't want in a guy." Who said I wanted him?
"See, this is why I said we should just go without him." Quana said.
"You'd say that even if he was here." Keris said.
"Yeah! I'd hate to ruin my day by seeing him." Hayate laughed at Quana's comment.
"Way to talk shit behind my back." Hayate turned to see Chris approaching them.
"You know I'm naturally this blunt, I'll tell it to you again if you'd like." Hayate said.
"I second that." Quana said. Chris turned away from them both and focused on Cassie.
"I swear the only person I want in my life is you Cassie." He clung to her causing Cassie to try and remove him from her arm.
"Come on Chris we're in public."
"Yeah and PDA is my specialty." Hayate got between them and managed to get Chris off her.
"We're supposed to be out here on a date and right now it just looks like you and her just got married." Keris said. Without another word Hayate grabbed Cassie's hand and began to drag her off. Come on, not you too!
"Hey!" Chris said, running after the pair. Quana and Keris looked to one another and just sighed.
...
This group date turned into Hayate and Chris competing to see who could get Cassie's attention the most, and even after bringing it up, the males insisted they were just playing around. Quana sat resting her head on her hand at the table, Keris just held back some laughter as Cassie sat between Hayate and Chris with the look of pure terror on her face.

"Come on you guys, whatever the hell this was supposed to be turned into a boring night!" Quana complained.
"Yeah. It's late, maybe we should just-"
"No, we didn't get dessert Cassie. I heard there's this new cake shop nearby." Hayate said.
"Cake?" Hayate glared at Chris, "Forget that, we should just go to a convenience store and get a bag of candy!" Quana said.
"I really appreciate the gesture but-"
"See? She doesn't do that. So the cake shop it is." Hayate said.
"She'd want something to snack on over time." Chris and Hayate got up and began to pull Cassie.
"You know, you could ask us?" Keris spoke up. Cassie glared at her, You couldn't have said something before? Keris smiled at her look, but went on. "If anything, I personally think Cassie would want some candy." Hayate smiled at her.
"Screw that. It's bad enough I barely got anything out of this, if I'm gonna be here any longer, than I at least want something tasty to eat for a while and candy isn't good enough." Quana went over to Hayate's side essentially making Cassie the last deciding factor in what they did.
"So, what do you say Cassie?" Keris said with a devious tone in her voice. Cassie wished looks could kill, but she knew she couldn't answer.
"Uh... well I-I don't mind either way." Chris just smiled at her and reached out to touch her cheek.
"You're always so sweet to us, but if you can't decide we'll just do it for you." Cassie's mouth opened but Chris went on. "We're getting candy!" Chris grabbed Cassie and ran out as quickly as he could.
"He did that on purpose!" Hayate ran out after them, Quana and Keris calmly left out.
"Why'd you pick sides like that anyways?" Quana asked.
"Oh, because I wanted to see what would happen. I knew she would just stay in the middle, but I didn't expect Chris to do that."
"Well either way I'm getting some cake now and I'm sure Hayate is going to beat him up. This will double the good night if that happens!" Quana then ran off, Keris simply smiled and calmly walked to meet up with the rest of them.

How far will those ripples spread? - Author's Note - This story starts quite slowly, and takes until about Chapter 16 to get rolling. I wrote this to be the kind of story you can really get into, where the world and characters are fleshed out and when the action happens it makes sense and hits hard. Thank you for reading. Update Schedule: Every Wednesday and Sunday at 5PM PST (8PM EST)

YAOS 1 - Limitless Adventures - Yet Another OP Story Book 1
December 23rd 2018: Book 1 is now up at Smashwords and at Amazon. December 30th 2018: V1.1.2 of YAOS Book 1 is out, some content additions, fixed typos. Amazon's enhanced typesetting now displays tables properly. YAOS is shown through the eyes of some genius athlete getting OP inside a VR, ah wait, Full Immersion game, ?F.I.O?. Not a Hero, not a Nerd, just a driven individual paying for mistakes made, biding time until he can return to the Real World. He isn't defined like you'd normally do it, you can pick his looks and name all on your own, just like you do in video games. Believe it or not, keeping his looks undefined is harder than you think. His backstory isn't expounded in detail, but it drives his choices. Book 1 isn't about depressing sob stories but about fun and rushing forward, pursuing new horizons. Oh, and you'll end on a cliffhanger! Well, most serials do, so you will probably expect that without being told explicitly. But it isn't that bad, there's a lot of reveals and more to come once this book, that is the first in a planned three-part series, is finally ready for release on amazon et al. The published version will have: 1.) Godawful speaker tags, I hate them, they make you stop thinking and speed up editing so much. In hindsight they should have been in to begin with. But I stand by my goals proclaimed earlier. You guys should think while reading, that is the whole point of the exercise. Apply the knowledge and ideas, improve yourself, get creative! 2.) Pretty colored tables, the damned blue boxes, a lot of work, 69 in one book. Finally fixed amazon's centering issue. Can't say I liked the hours needed to debug that. 3.) The promised Mitara chapters. 4.) A cover! 5.) And lastly, updated polished versions of several chapters. MC shares more of his past, some terrible chapters (esp. 32) finally work. Some new scenes, minor rewrites in parts. Text flow and other issues. The current challenge is to maintain essential ambiguity while satisfying people wanting to know more without thinking three steps ahead. Balancing one with the other is tough. The smut which was in remains, but the story told is not to be superseded by it. A 15+ rating for the first book is also important, not to mention, YAOS wasn't meant to contain any smut to begin with. If the Author can turn to writing full time his output should increase, so please support YAOS #1 once it does finally release. ~Thank You~ No maps so far, that should be in, but is really hard to get done right. Again, tips are appreciated. Update September 2017: Stubbed chapters, sorry guys, currently don't have time to upload them elsewhere, polishing book 1 and 2, writing 3, takes precedence. Book 1 is in heavy editing, too much to keep synced and continuing editing. I'd need a site which offers JS-free rapid managing of chapters and comments. Coding one myself or setting a premade up is out of scope until I'm done with the books. RRL-old offered that, nuff said. This is only here because the author believes in fairies, nobody reads this, most likely. October to December 2017: Life threw some curveballs. February 2018: Book 2 draft 1 completed, at ~150K words. Book 2 is fairly epic in scope, requires 1 rewritten chapter, some editing. Tables and miscellanea are in, but needs at least a grammar pass. March 2018: Book 3 at 28k words, first arc, rest needs serious planning for spin-off and satisfying conclusion. July 2018: Yet another proofing/editing session of books 1-3, 101+ chapters, ~300k words. B3 at 48k, starts out great, but no ETA, no wordcount limit, in flux. But prioritizing my writing cannot be done, I hate the delays as much as you, but you will prefer the whole released in a timely fashion rather than wait. Knowing myself how excruciating waiting can be, at least you'll get significantly polished versions and an ETA on book 2 by release of book 1. December 23rd 2018: Book 1 is now up at Smashwords and in the process at Amazon et. al.. . To all who wait patiently, offered feedback, thanks again!

He ran into her at street theater. She was a force of nature, not a casual first time hire. She brought the house down with her performance, literally pulled the audience to their feet in standing ovation. Her performance was too real, unnerving, deeply unsettling to him. He spent all his energy keeping up with her.At the end of the play, she snatched her earnings from the director's hands and ran away, leaving a trail of questions behind her, the most burning one in his mind was:Would he ever see her again?____________________This ongoing novel imagines a world that our younger generations inherit after a series of successive presidencies in the same vein as the current model. There is no need for erecting walls, as the biggest divide created by humanity - that of social class - takes care of a post modern segregation. The poor are literally marginalized into slum-like townships and tend to be of color. The names of these townships would be enough to tell you their story. The rich, well, remain happily oblivious in the big American cities. In this world find a mysterious girl whose identity must be hidden or she would be hunted down and a young street actor who falls for her intrigue. Discover how they survive, born into a society not prepared to give them a chance. For them, the dystopia came without an apocalypse.
