Defiant’s Edge (Black Iron Empire) - Valtir 1497
A deep insidious hunger invaded the deepest recesses of Markus’ entire being after vaguely remembering about that mysterious tome that just flew into his hand. It was like every cell in his body screamed for sustenance and he didn’t understand what could help alleviate the pain. The only thing he understood on an intimate level with this new sensation was his desire to eat and consume sustenance.
There was only one problem with that.
Everything around him was empty and black.

“Huh?” Markus asked himself as he looked at the prompts in his vision which confused him greatly. “Didn’t the examine show it was a skill tome…?”
“That is what it appeared like, youngling,” an unfamiliar male voice replied from behind Markus. “Yet it was far more different than anything in that constructed world.”
He turned to face the source of that voice, but was not expecting to see a handsome elvish male dressed in some kind of regal priestly robes with a medallion showcasing a magenta spider web symbol in a black background. The only thing he noted was the three pairs of pure blood red eyes looking directly at him as if being observed by a spider. Strangely, he felt a deep bond with this figure as if he was his father…
“Well, I could be your father though I wouldn’t treat you like garbage like that human prick who only managed to get it up on a fluke for a gobliness bitch,” the man replied as he intentionally insulted Markus’ parents. “Before you even think about it, yes, I can read minds. Yes, it is an invasion of privacy and no I won’t apologize for it since I wanted to understand a new child of mine.”

Markus was beyond shocked at the response he received from this person, but somehow pieces clicked into place in his mind faster than his consciousness could keep up with as he realized who this was.
“Xaradel…”
Xaradel nodded. “Yep. It is a pleasure to meet you, young Markus Reeves. Unfortunately, we don’t have time to dawdle around forever as there is business to discuss. First off, you are the only person in Cruxborne Legends with this Class and it cannot be taught anywhere on Valtir. For new skills outside of what was inside the tome, you need to utilize the [Dimensional Jump] racial ability and lock onto the dimension ‘Maelstrom of Oblivion’ which will take you to someone with the ability to help you. Secondly, you must never tell anyone of your true Class. The reason isn’t going to be immediately obvious yet, so bear with me on that. Luckily, your companion already understands this situation better than you think. Lastly, I’ll be giving you a goal to strive towards if you so desire it.”
“What goal?” Markus managed to ask despite the small info dump.
Xaradel gave him a wicked smile in return. “Why, to return to Earth, of course! You might not understand this at all yet, but you aren’t able to log out of the game.”
“WHAT?!” Markus roared. “WHAT THE FUCK?!”
“Heh, you can’t log out of the game since you found that tome and the Class won’t let you return to Earth unless you get permission by a Primal Power to jump there,” Xaradel explained with a knowing grin. “This won’t be easy to trick your way out of, Markus, since Earth hasn’t been integrated by the Eternal System yet. People will die that day while some flock to this game for safety and the rest are left to deal with what comes next. There will be ways to save those who die, but until then, you have to play this game as intended with an overpowered Class for this world.”

Markus’ mind started to break down that information Xaradel was providing him, but even with a measly 300 intelligence score which let his mind work thirty times faster than a normal human, it was still a daunting task. He didn’t understand why all of a sudden his entire concept of reality had been turned upside down like this nor why he was suddenly thrust into his situation where impossible things were happening right in front of him, but the only thing his mind could do to help streamline the flow was simply take it one step at a time.
“Okay, let’s take this one step at a time please. First off, I’m essentially trapped in the game and can’t go back to earth until I obviously complete some kind of daunting task for you,” Markus began explaining. “That usually means I have to accomplish a horrendously difficult objective that carries a very high chance of killing me in the process if done improperly if any of the fantasy books can be trusted. Now that we are in a time crunch, let's just get the task made known and get to work.”
Xaradel smiled happily at Markus and then snapped his fingers. This act returned Markus back to Valtir and assigned him a new quest.

“Holy fuck,” Markus remarked after reading the quest description and rewards. Once he regained his wits from the shock, he opened up his Class information in his codex.

The Good Necromancer
Hundreds of years ago, shortly after the Great Cataclysm which destroyed the Ancient World, was the Age of Heroes. One of these great heroes started off in the most hated profession of the time, Necromancer. Join him and his comrades as they accomplish the first of the Good Necromancers legendary tasks. ***** So, quick update for those who pay attention to this section. I'm finally coming out of finals for this semester, and I plan on getting the whole already posted section revised. It's taken me a while to change the necessary things, as I had to start all the way over, but I've at least got the rough drafts for all the revised chapters. These should be going up within the next week or so, still have to go to work, but I am here, I haven't forgotten or dropped the story. Just trying to make this the best work that I can produce. P.S. I will be releasing additional stories. They are all going to be in the Good Necromancer world, however the others will give you an idea on how humans in other locations survived and have thrived. Or not. =)

Carus - Libertas
participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge and also having a go at NaNoWriMo this November. This was a first draft published as it was written for Nanowrimo November 2020. A little rough around the edges, I hope to come back and edit at some point, and then continue the story on. In the grand scheme of things Elias was nothing special. Which was why he was surprised by a random company on a new colony planet buying out his contract. That was the problem with the large companies that ruled the colonies, once they owned your contract, they owned you. Imagine the greater surprise when he learnt that the new company held the promise of freedom. Not from the constant battle against the Swarm that were also trying to claim the colony planets for their own. Nor from the Crust, the mysterious substance that covered the same planets and held the resources they all fought for. No, the freedom from being oppressed by those with more power and to finally decide where to go and where to set down roots and call home.
