"What's going on?"
Michael couldn't help himsel from asking this out loud.
(Why are messages appearing in midair? And what's this about skills and jobs? It's almost like i'm in some kind of game...)
Then Michael remembered what that thing said.
"(Ah, is this on? Now it's on. Hello dear, dear participants to our game show! You have all been selected for either your strong mental fortitude of resisting everything that happened, or you stopped it from happening in the first place.)"
"Game show"...
"Game..."
Just as Michael was about to scream at the fact that all of this was a game, he suddenly heard a voice.
[User has lost control of feelings, heart of steel has forcibly calmed his emotions.]
And just as his rage was building up at an incredible pace, it dissapeared even faster. All of his emotions, just dissapeared. He wasn't sad, mad, happy, or anything. It was like a bitter fruit, no taste, no emotion. He calmly thought it through instead, he remembered the voice saying something about faster thought speed and something about parallel thinking. And he noticed, that he could use it. He had never succeded in it before, but it worked now. He did a square with his right hand, a triangle with his left, a circle with his right leg, a star with his left, and doing thinking all of this over at the same time. His conclusion of the tests on the parallel thinking was that it was like copying his mind. He could copy his mind, and send that copy on a specific task, they will not question what Michael wants it to do. When Michael didn't want them to continue on their task, or he they completed it, they would return to his mind, and he would recieve their memories. The faster thinking makes it way easier to do calculations as well, it had only taken at most 5 seconds to do all of these tests. He had alsoo recalled something about emotion control, and when he attempted it on himsel,it worked. He made himself happy, sad, mad, annoyed, bored and many other emotions. He could also make himself ver dizzy with it, since he could do it to others, he could use this on enemies. Making the enemy dizzy in the middle of the fight, will make it much easier to beat them. He also had some other ideas on how to manipulate the enemy with emotions, or how to beat them easier. He could make them feel loyalty to him. He had already wasted a few seconds thinking about this. The timer had already appeared again, and there were only 4 minutes and 51 seconds left. Most likely, another wolf or 2 would appear when the timer reached the last few seconds. Michael started analyizing his surroundings, he was in a clearing, the corpse of the wolf was still there. It didn't dissapear like in games. Michael walked up to it, and pulled out it's teeth and claws. He gathered some branches as well, He spent the remaining time on attaching the claws to his knuckles, and the teeth to a stick. When the timer reached 5, 2 wolves started appearing. As soon as the timer reached 0, Michael tried to manipulate the wolves feelings, he made them feel a very strong loyalty to him. The wolves at down, and looked up at him, he walked up to them, and started petting them. He wanted to see if he could keep the wolves, and use them as tools for survival. After around 5 hours of spending time with them, and getting a close bond with the two of them, the timer appeared again. The timer started at 10 minutes, counting down.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
