《Bastion Of Heroes》Chapter 16

King Kong’s voice grew smaller and smaller as Seth jumped from building to building on his way home. Fortunately, King Kong didn't have the speed to chase after him. The sun was still rising, indicating that it was still early in the day.

As he ran from rooftop to rooftop, Seth recalled the previous night’s fight if it could even be a be called a fight. It was completely one-sided. If the fight was timed, the whole thing took less than a couple of minutes. Mr. White overpowered both Seth and King Kong completely. It was as if a predator was playing with their prey the whole time.

He ran some simulations in his head, different actions he could have taken. Unfortunately, no matter what he did, he couldn’t think of a possible scenario where they walked out unscratched. He was completely outmatched in every way. Even with the unexpected help of King Kong, there was nothing that could possibly be done.

They could have been killed.

That very thought made Seth’s blood run cold. He could feel his hand tremble just from the realization of death. Sure, there was a times when he was training where he though his master might kill him but facing the reality of actual death was terrifying.

However, there was one important question in the end. Why were they let off in the end? The two teenagers were at the mercy of Mr. White. Was it a whim that they were let go? Was there a purpose to letting them go? Could he have wanted to track them down for a kidnapping? Could Mr. White have been waiting for them to wake up, so he could stalk and kidnap them? Suddenly the trick that he used to get away from King Kong was beginning to look like an actual possibility. Seth couldn’t help looking back a few times to see if someone was following him. He could feel his thoughts spiraling out of control, so he decided to just stop thinking and pick up his speed.

Lost in his thoughts, the abandon office buildings Seth was traversing quickly became household rooftops. Seth could see a few people awake and going about their business. Luckily, none of them was looking up for they would have seen the strange sight of a boy running across the roofs. Seth was able to quickly get to his home without any obstruction.

Like a spider, Seth quietly slid open his room window. The first thing he checked was his room clock. His phone was still not working, not that he had paid much attention to the machine as he rushed back. 8:04. Woah, made it in time. My parent should still be sleeping, thought Seth. If they weren’t, they should just about to be waking up for now.

Seth hurriedly changed into his pajamas, trying to get rid of any evidence of anything happened last night. He threw the face mask into the trash, surprisingly having to have survived the abuse from last night electric shock.

The next order of business was his still inoperable cellphone. The screen was still black and none of the buttons worked. Maybe if he smacked it a few times? Not that it could be logically explained, but some machines needed a good smack to work. He had seen it happen to some old electronics before. Seth gave the phone a few light hits and smacked it a few times on the table. He didn’t want to use too much force that would cause the screen to crack or break the phone even more. He also wanted to avoid making too much noise in case his parents just happen to be up for some odd reason. There was no justifiable answer why the sixteen-year-old boy is awake earlier than his parents on a Saturday.

Soon Seth gave up on his phone working. He’ll have to head to the shop and see if it can be fixed or buy a new one. Maybe the warranty still worked for it? He forgotten how long the warranty lasted and how long he had the phone. Seth decided to do the next most important thing.

Sleep.

“Seth? Are you awake?”

Seth barely registered the voice that he heard. His body was rebelling against his brain in it's command to wake up.

“I just like to let you know it’s 12 already. I have some things to take care of, so I'll see you later tonight. Your dad is still sleeping. I left you some food on the table for lunch.”

That immediately woke him up. At least enough for him to realize it was his mom talking and she had just left his room. Seth had not plan to sleep until the afternoon, he had wanted to get up by ten o’clock.

Seth quickly got up from bed and changed his cloth. He could hear the downstairs door closing as his mom left the house. He collected his phone and wallet and put them in his pockets. Then he went downstairs to eat lunch. The door to his parent’s room was still closed as his dad was sleeping.

Seth's dad was a manager at the company he worked at. He often had to stay late to make sure everything was completed and satisfactory. His mom on the other hand worked as a planner in the government. There were also many times when she had to stay late due to incomplete or mediocre projects. His mom was a bit of a perfectionist in that way. If she did not find everything up to par, then she would stay late to make sure the plans were flawless. That had been a bit of an issue for Seth as he was growing up since his mom would make sure everything he did was done to perfections, even the chores. She would go over everything he did with a meticulous eye, and he would need to redo everything if she found something wrong.

After quickly finishing his lunch, Seth set out from his home.
