《The Celestial Venture》Chapter 6 - Earth Time

Entering the library, Kree looked around. Like on the outside, the building was round, and unsurprisingly, there were filled bookshelves everywhere. There was a small clerk table and entry area, though it appeared empty for the moment. Approaching the table, Kree clicked on a small bell, before hearing some movements from within the library.
"Just a second!"
After the voice called out to her, it took a few minutes, before a snake-like woman appeared behind the counter. Upon seeing Kree, a pair of wings appeared, as her figured turned more similar to Kree's, only with brown hair, red eyes and her wings were pitch black.
"Hello darling. Aren't you quite the sight? Mutated human? Or something else?" The librarian asked, her gaze moving over Kree as if she was trying to swallow her whole with just looking at her.
"Erm, not a human at all. I'm a Fraelian, from the planet Re'eva. Kree'aria is my name," Kree introduced herself, doing the circle with a fist "I was hoping to gain access to the library."
"Kree'aria, a pleasure. I'm Sybil, a Celerian. And I do not believe we had the pleasure of meeting a Fraelian before. But then again, me and my sisters were only here for 50 years, so how about I look it up for you?" Sybil asked, shifting her gaze to the computer on the table.
"Ah, that isn't-"
"And it seems there was one! Over a century ago. Requested access as well. Though it seemed he dropped the request too a couple of days after. Unusual," Sybil said, glancing up at Kree "How long do your people normally live for?"
Kree scratched the back of her head. She didn't think it would become a full blown interview the way Jarvell presented it "I think our average lifespan is around three hundred years? But there have been cases of Fraelians reaching the age of 500 even."
"Ohh, very good. Long-living species. Most ones I've encountered since coming here were short-spanned," Sybil said, before turning her full attention back to Kree "So, you wanted access. Were you told of what is required for entry here?"
Kree nodded, watching as a microphone was placed on the table, and a chair appeared behind her. Sybil gestured for her to sit down "Good. You just need to tell it into the microphone, and once done, it will likely take up to an hour to process if your story is already in store or not. If it is, then you will not gain access. Simple as that. And you are allowed to try as many times as you wish." Sybil said, before sitting in her own chair behind the table, and pressed a button, which made a small red light on the microphone appear. Sybil gestured for Kree to start.
Nodding, Kree brought herself closer to the microphone "This is the tale of the Celestica. It begins-"

Twy'la kept glancing over at Jarvell, only to look away whenever he seemed to turn his gaze towards her. This occured a number of times, before he sighed.

"You know, I'm just trying to help out here. You don't exactly seem like the confident type like your friend." Jarvell said.
"Acquaintance, not friend. And just because I'm not confident or outspoken doesn't mean I can't handle myself." Twy'la said, sounding annoyed.
"Maybe not back at your home, but drifting into your mind? Talking so quietly? Both will lead you to be robbed and left on the street. Even if this is a haven for many aliens, it doesn't mean everyone will be nice to you."
"Well, I'm sure I still would've managed even without you! Tr'la. No one asked you to help anyway."
Jarvell shrugged "Maybe not, but I like to think that being nice to another you just met is common sense. And maybe you haven't asked, but your friend asked me to look over the little guy."
"Then you could've also just waited outside the library for her!"
"Do you want me to head back and leave you be then? I can do that if you p-"
"Don't."
Jarvell turned to look at Twy'la, who just stopped in her tracks, her gaze fixed at the ground. He walked back to her and tapped on her shoulder with one of his two free hands, making her look up at him.
"I'm not going anywhere. Just stop arguing about not needing help," Jarvell said, before turning back "Now come one, we're almost there."
Nodding, Twy'la just walked in silence after him, not giving any further complaints to him.
The two of them continued to walk for another five minutes, before they entered a small store, where Jarvell almost touched the ceiling with his head. It had a lot of pictures spread across the walls, and a whole lot of information pamphlets spread around. Behind the main counter, was a little man, half bald, who was sitting with both legs on the counter. He briefly glanced up at the two, before looking back at a newspaper he was holding.
Jarvell waved to the man "Yo, Joe. Got someone who wants-"
"To find a new home, yada yada. Look at the pamphlets and let me know when you see what you want," Joe said "Everything there is out here are places that are currently accepting outsiders."
Twy'la's expression turned both annoyed and unsure. She was supposed to just choose for herself? She didn't know what she wanted! Looking at Jarvell, he shrugged, and the two started to look over the pamphlets.
"Are you comfortable with hot planets? There are a few that can make for amazing homes if you are." Jarvell asked.
"I don't know."
"Then what about a frozen haven? Harder to live at for most, which means more seclusion, and privacy, and the folks on those are normally more hospitable."
"My home was rather cold."
"Then maybe not. What about the flora? Want a more tree-filled home? Or perhaps grassy fields? Or perhaps a desert? There are also planets which are almost entirely water."
"I don't know what's a tree, or grass, or a desert."

Jarvell just started feeling at a loss, and looked down at Gum, and the Gelac just stared back, clearly not following the conversation. Hearing someone stand up from a chair, both Jarvell and Twy'la turned to see Joe come from behind the counter, and point at Twy'la.
"You, missy. Guessing this is your first time off your home planet?"
Twy'la nodded.
"And your home was likely somewhere barren of most life?"
Another nod.
"Lived in a cavern society?"
Nod.
Joe sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose "Kids these days, tsk," He looked back at Twy'la "Before you go looking for a home, you need to exprience more of what the galaxy has to offer. Only then, you can actually figure out where you want your home to be at. So instead of a relocation guide, you need a tour guide, to take you on a galaxy-wide trip. So come back in a few years, then we might have something to talk about."
Jarvell, who kept looking between the two, chuckled as he saw Twy'la's expression turn dumbfounded "He has a point you know."
Twy'la's eyes darted to Jarvell "If you knew all that already, why not suggest so yourself, hmmm? Fre'qa!" And with that, she walked out of the store.
After Jarvell nodded his gratitude to Joe, before heading out and beginning to follow Twy'la "So what is the plan now? We still have some time before we're meant to meet up with Kree."
"I don't know! Find a tour guide!" Twy'la shouted, continuing to walk away.
"I could show you to a place that has some great to-"
Jarvell stopped talking as he saw Twy'la turn to look at him a glare.
As Twy'la kept heading back in the direction of the library, all she could think of was that she already wanted to be out of this place. And hopefully, away from this guy too.
——————————————————————————-
Finished with telling the tale, Kree turned to look at Sybil, who nodded, clearly pleased.
"Excellent story telling skills young miss! I will cross my fingers for you to be approved, and you are welcome to come share your stories at any time." Sybil said, clapping her hands.
Kree bowed with her head "Thanks. That was actually a tale my father told me when I was young. So you said it would take a day to see if it was told before or not?"
Sybil nodded "Indeed. So you can stay in one of the local hotels. I also know how dreary long treks travelling between planets and systems can be, so you could probably use some proper rest too."
"Well, it would be nice. I'm not sure if I have enough for both a rest at a hotel and the other supplies I need though." Kree said.
"Ah yes, the biggest dilemma. Well, you could always buy the supplies first and see if its possible afterwards. Again, crossing my fingers for you!" Sybil said with a smile.
Nodding, Kree stood up "Thanks for your hospitality." She then turned to the door-
"Wait, don't you want to know the name of the other Fraelian that was here before you? You might know him." Sybil said, tapping on the computer screen.
Pondering on it for a moment, Kree shook her head "Nah. I haven't met many Fraelians. And I'm not going back home soon anyway."
"Very well. Have an enjoyable day, Kree'aria." Sybil said with a wave, before heading back into the library, her form shifting as she went deeper in, before she vanished from Kree's line of sight.
Heading outside, Kree took a deep breath. She was immensely curious about who the other Fraelian was, but she knew it wouldn't matter. Now she just needed to wait until Twy'la and Jarvell came back.
And it didn't take long for them to come back. Kree raised her eyebrows at Twy'la, who by now just appeared annoyed, while Jarvell just followed, until he spotted Kree and waved to her.
"Hey you three! Found a planet for Twy'la to move to?" Kree asked, before noticing it only made Twy'la puff her cheeks.
Jarvell handed Gum to Kree while also rubbing the back of his head "Well, we were at the place, when he said-"
"The nerve of him! Telling me I have to go explore the galaxy first before figuring out where I should settle down at! And then this Tr'la here agreed with him!" Twy'la said, glaring at Jarvell.
As she took Gum into her hands, Kree moved her gaze between Twy'la and Jarvell "Well, while I can see what they mean," Her gaze briefly laid on Jarvell before fixing itself on Twy'la "They should've tried to actually help you out, instead of just pushing their opinion on you."
As Twy'la nodded firmly in agreement, Jarvell sighed.
"I apologize if I came off that way. I just wanted to convey that I agree it can help." Jarvell said.
Twy'la still seemed to fume, until she caught Kree's expression.
"What? You don't expect me to apologize as well do you?"
Kree shook her head "No, just to accept his apology. Can you do that?"
Twy'la hid her mouth behind her collar "Well, if I misunderstood what he meant, I suppose so."
"Great! Now, we're going to be staying here for another day,"
Twy'la's eyebrows rose high "What."
"Oh, they need time to see if my tale is good to be allowed entry or not," Kree said "So for now, lets go get that fuel and hopefully, we'll have enough afterwards to get a room in one of the local hotels."
"Hotel? What's that?"
Jarvell and Kree exchanged looks, before Kree stepped closer to Twy'la "You don't have hotels back on Europa?"
Twy'la shook her head.
As Kree started explaining about what a hotel is, the three of them started to follow Jarvell once more, going to finish attending to everything else they needed to do.
