《A Misleading Shell》Learning About Magic part 1

"How do I store mana in my gem core?"
"You have to focus on the gem core in your head, and it'll draw mana by itself." He said while wearing thicker clothes "I'm going out to hunt some horned rabbits, practice while I'm gone."
"You can hunt them even in winter? I didn't find any and I almost starved."
"Yes, you can, you have to find the little holes they dug to hide in to sleep, and they are more active in winter acutally, but they store food in their holes that they dug, so until it runs out they don't come out, that's why you didn't find any, I also have set up some traps and they often catch me atleast one horned rabbit." He opened the door bringing in a chilly breeze "farewell!" And closed it.
I'm in desperate need of knowledge about this world, I'll ask him if he has any books to learn from when he returns.
I went up to the second floor and sat on the smaller bed in a meditative posture, I closed my eyes and I started to focus on the gem core in my head, after a minute or two, I started to feel the mana around me, and even though I didn't see it, the gem core in my head started to to suck in atmospheric mana.
it's weird how humans have this rock in their brain, how does it cause no issue? And I swear I've heard about this setting before, why can't I remember what it was from.
I kept doing this until I heard the doors open downstairs, it wasn't boring, though the only changes were that green mana stopped going in.
I got up and went down, I saw Sylvar carrying around 6 horned rabbits in his hands "that's a lot."
He started "Oh my! You surprised me! That was a first, Hahaha!"
"You haven't ever bee- Oh, It's because of your ability"
He nodded "yes it is a rather impossible thing to happen, but you made it possible." He went to the kitchen and I followed "what were you doing?"
"I was still drawing mana, why did you come back so fast?" It felt like he went out for only a couple minutes
He looked at me speechless "a monster I tell you, you're a monsterous thing."
"Why?" I tilted my head
"Look outside."
I turned my head to the window.

oh it's pitch black out there, but why?
I returned my gaze to Sylvar he exclaimed "Being very focused while drawing mana into your core, you lose track of time, but you've been doing it for almost 10 hours to get it to be full! High capacity gem cores only need 5 hours to fill all the attribute parts of the gem core! And as you grow the gem core also matures, becoming larger with capacity!"
"I didn't fill it up yet... only green mana stopped flowing in just before you came back."
He said in a flat voice like mine "you're something else Noah"
"So what difference does that make? Can I cast more spells? Or can I cast more powerful spells?" I asked.
"Both, and you should stop asking me about it, because I only remember Elven magic correctly and I do know about human magic, but I don't remember enough to teach you."
I nodded "then do you have any books I could learn from? It doesn't have to be about magic, anything's fine, I want to learn more about this world."
His eyes widened as if he noticed something "Oh my, dear Noah I have something more useful than books." He then looked at me, smiled at me wickedly and rubbed his palms together as if looking at a test subject.
"I don't like this expression of yours." I stepped a few steps backwards.
He shrugged "we'll do that later, I'm going to dismantle the horned rabbits before that though."
ooh, I want to learn dismantling, I always roughly do it and waste a lot of materials.
"can you teach me?"
"Sure, come and help me."
We each got a knife and he handed me a rabbit.
"Firstly, you make a cut near the back of it's neck, and remove the fur like so, you then cut the legs to it's knees, it's tail and the head, keep the horn, you can sell it, cut the head and take out the magic stone, that's how I buy supplies, I get money from selling the horn and the magic stone it has in it'"
I took out a little smooth pepple, it was like glass, see through, with tint of red.
"Demonic beasts' magic stones are more expensive the more red they are, so the one you have is not very expensive, horned rabbits are a low level demonic beast after all, you could make more profit with the horn."

"Secondly, you make an incision in the belly and the chest cavity and remove the innards, cut near the tail to find if there is any excreta and then you clean rabbit thoroughly."
"Thirdly, you wash the rabbit, since you have the water attribute it'll be easy, then remove the silver skin on it, this is quite tedious but you'll have to do it, after that, remove the front legs, then the Back legs, remove the bones and then cut the meat into portions."
I followed him step by step ignoring the discomfort the whole process gave me.
He make it look so easy! Ugh.
I Dismantled two rabbits while he dismantled four.
The second rabbit had a slightly more red magic stone in it, it was pretty.
"Can I keep it?"
He made a sound of affirmation.
After we finished, I went outside to do my relieve myself and wash up with water magic.
"Where are you going?" Sylvar asked
I told him
He looked at me, then started laughing wildly, he even fell to the floor because of laughing so much.
this guy laughs too much.
"Uh do you have a bathroom then?"
I waited for him to stop.
"Haha! yes! ha choke cough cough yes I do, cough, hahah," he put on a serious face "it's on the second floor, there are magic stones to use, I'm sure you'll figure it out."
I climbed up the ladder to the second floor while hearing muffled chuckling down on the first floor.
I went the bathroom to do my business, bathrooms were frighteningly similar to earth bathrooms, the only difference was that they were powered by magic stones, the toilet had a space enchanted magic stone, to get rid of the waste.
and there is a bath!
So I took a long bath.
I looked at the mirror and pinched my cheeks.
I went to Sylvar after changing into my worn out clothes "you said you had something better than books, right? What is it?"
"Follow me" we went to the third floor, it was full of shelves and magic stones that had picture flashing through them.
"Are these the memories you have stored?"
"Exactly, I'm going to give you memories to learn from!" He said excitedly.
"Didn't you say that normally anyone would go crazy if they did that?"
is he trying to kill me?!
"Normally, but you are abnormal." he winked at me while searching through the stones.
I was speechless.
I'm his test rat.
"you see, back when I was still the king of the Ancient Elves, and when we had our kingdom, other kingdoms usually asked me to give them divinations, they sent their most influential people around in their kingdoms to me, it was a long time ago, but the human kingdom sent me their royal magician, and the strongest commander they had, basically they were the human kingdom's central power, I gave them divinations in exchange for resources," He stopped.
"And?"
"I secretly stole their memories, teehe." He laughed coyly.
teehe? Ew...
"Don't do that again, that traumatised me more than killing Horned rabbits." I said, my voice was more emotionless than usual.
"Tch, I was jokin- Ah! Here it is!" He pulled out a magic stone and stuffed it into my hands.
"This is the royal magician's memory of learning magic, I had filtered out any unnecessary memories and only kept the ones where he was learning or practicing magic in."
"Why would you do that?" I tilted my head
he said that elves only influence mana, and humans store it, so the memories wouldn't be useful to him unless there were some kind of magic theories.
"For fun, living for years without anything to do, I filled my time doing things like this, and coincidentally it was a useful thing to do." He took out another stone and set it aside.
ah, that explains it.
"What if he has different attributes than me?" I asked
"I didn't think about that!" He pondered for a while "you'll get useful knowledge anyway, knowing more about different attributes doesn't hurt, if you have to fight other humans or creatures who have attributes in the future it will be very convenient."
"Alright! It is late let's go to the beds." We went down after I was ready to go into the bed he said "after you sleep I'll activate the magic stone so you'll see the memories as a long dream."
I nodded, I lay down and shut my eyes, before drifting off to sleep I heard a "Try not to go crazy! Okay Noah? teehe!" I rolled my eyes even though they were shut, smiled and everything went silent.
