《Meta Human》Chapter 6: Pop Quiz

With a look of disgust and disdain in his eyes, Professor Dior stood up from this seat and advanced towards Alex who was too engrossed in what he was doing to notice him approaching.

Suddenly, he stopped his movement abruptly when he saw the puff of smoke escape Alex's beaker with a loud boom.

The explosion not only scared him, but also the people seated next to Alex who screamed and ducked away from him immediately.

But the Alex who had caused the commotion sat there pleased at his work, completely unharmed.

"H-how did.... A neutral explosion reaction..." Dior's fright turned into shock as he slowly advanced towards Alex's table, his eyes still glued to the whizzing products in the beaker.

His actions bemused the students who were watching, but he was too amazed to care.

Infact, if any of his colleagues were here, they would do the same.

Reason being, achieving a neutral explosion reaction was something extremely difficult to attain. More so with Sulphuric acid which was highly reactive and dangerous.

In his entire life, he had only learnt how to achieve that reaction when he was thirty years. But he didn't dare try it with concentrated sulphuric acid.

Yet here, this young lad had done something he couldn't do.

Moreso on such in a such a casual way. And the experiment wasn't a complex one to begin with, it only needed about 4 reagents.

But to achieve that reaction, he had to use a freak combination of tens of reagents.

"Alex you!" Julie was about to lush out on Alex for giving her such a fright, but Professor Dior stopped her immediately.

"There's no need, what's done is done. Class dismissed. And Alex don't act so reckless again."

With a look of displeasure, Julie was the first one to storm out of the lab. Clearly Alex had won a bit of the professor's favour by luck. That wasn't fair.

Seeing that he was now left alone in the laboratory, the professor broke his majestic composure and carried Alex's beaker with excitement.

He then walked to his desk and took his seat and continued studying it.

"Hah he able to form the spongy fraction...." he said as he picked up the yellow solid in the beaker with a pair of tweezers, a shiny liquid dripped out of it in the process. After examining the liquid, he was shocked yet again, "Mercury..... How was he able to form a transit metal!"

This time he was shocked beyond his wits, reason being if anyone could learn how to form transit metals, it would only be a matter of time before that person could form gold.

One could only imagine the amount of wealth that person would have.

"Did you do this by accident or do you actually know how to do this? " Professor Dior pondered to himself.

School Cafeteria.

After the chemistry lesson, it was now break time and at this time, the school cafeteria was lively with people.

After picking up his tray from the counter, he made his way to a free bench together with Calvin. As they talked about what had happened earlier.

Unfortunately, due to the distraction, Alex bumped into a solid object and was forced to the ground.

The tray he was holding flew out of his hands and the contents spilled on someone's shoes.

"Oh no!" he exclaimed when he realized the thing he had bumped into, it was McCoy the gigantic solitary boy almost everyone feared.

Without waiting for an explanation, McCoy grabbed Alex by his collar and raised him off the ground, "Clean my shoes." he said through gritted teeth.

Knowing the problem was his, Alex immediately agreed through chocked breaths.

He knelt on one leg as he picked up a handkerchief from his pocket and cleaned Micoy's shoe.

"Good boy. Said Micoy." grinning but still angry.

He did an I've-got-my-eyes-on-you gesture before continuing to wherever he was headed.

Alex got off his knee breathing a sigh of relief.

Everyone had gotten used to this kind of thing in high school that they didn't pay that much attention. Well, except Julie. She looked at the whole drama in pity and was disgusted at how Alex was weak.

"That was a close one bro," said Calvin.

The bell rang again and the lessons continued.

"Pop quiz," said Madam Morgan walking into the classroom with a heap of papers in her hands.

She loved it when students were unprepared.

Everyone in the classroom groaned in disappointment, some even going as far as hitting their desks hard.

Alex was no exception. He had been caught up in all these new things with his uncle that he didn't prepare enough the day before.

"This quiz will contribute 30% of the points for the overall assessment. And the exams you're having next week will contribute the remaining percentage."

She stood up and started passing the papers around in the class and walked back to the front of the class with an extra paper for herself.

" So... You should take this seriously or else you might end up repeating my class and we both don't want that to happen. Best of luck," she said taking her seat at the teacher's desk.

"Am even going to do the test along with you just to show you how easy of a quiz it is," she said while grinning and picking her spectacles out of their case.

"Aghhh. What is it with this teacher and showing off." Alex thought to himself rolling his eyes.

"You have 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete this test." she said looking at the time on her watch, "And your time starts now."

Everyone flipped their question papers and tried to answer whatever they could.

For Alex, this was hell. He didn't even know a single question in the paper.

Alex sat there, looking at the question paper, with his chin resting on his palm.

And then the voices started again, "Which enzyme is res...," said a voice, "Aghh. I don't know that one." said another voice.

The voices kept on piling and piling but this time Alex didn't feel any pain. But the noise of mixed voices was quite disturbing.

A thought crossed his mind and he quickly looked at Madam Morgan who was also answering the questions.

" Ha. That's so easy.." he could hardly pick up what she was saying.

But after some time he the noises around him started disappearing and Madam Morgan's thoughts became more rigid.

"This paper is just so easy. I'm just waiting to see how that Alex kid will do. I bet I don't even have to check his paper. I'll just give him an F. But... Why can't I just look at the wrong answers he will write this time. I love those stupid answers he writes often. They make me laugh. "

Madam Morgan was having a debate in her mind after looking through the whole paper. She grinned from ear to ear trying to think of the ridiculous wrong answers the students would write down.

Alex was displeased by this, but what could he do. They were only her thoughts.

"Okay... That's enough. Number one. Name the enzyme... That's pepsin" she said even without completing the question.

"About time," Alex said while writing down what he heard.

He was already tired of Madam Morgan boasting and making fun of her students.

After about 30 minutes, Madam Morgan sat there looking at the students sweat the answers out of their fire heads.

" Your left with an hour."

"Your left with 50 minutes."

The students started panicking more and more as Madam Morgan announced the time reduction.

Madam Morgan sure loved this panic.

She focused her gaze on Alex to see how he was copping up with the pressure but to her dismay, Alex was dozing.

Indicating he was already done.

"10 minutes."

Cold sweat escaped the students' foreheads in a panic since they still had unanswered questions.

"Times up... Hand in your papers now," she said looking at Alex who had just woken up and already walking towards the teacher's desk with his paper.

Slowly by slowly, the sound of desks started filling the atmosphere as students did their finishing touches and stood up to hand in their papers.

Those who still had answers to fill in could only write as fast as they can with their hands shaking.

"I said times up."

They just gave up hope of completing the paper and handed it in.

The school bell rang and everyone left their classrooms to meet up with friends and talk about the paper they had just done.

This was a must as a human.

After an examination, students liked showing off to their peers and debating their answers or even find proof to support their answers just for the sake of comforting themselves.

Those who asked around about a certain number and got reply different from what they wrote on the paper would feel disappointed and sad.

Such was the law of human nature.

"Bro. How the hell did you complete the quiz that fast.

I noticed you were sleeping in class." asked Calvin who was still kinda disappointed of by some wrong answers he wrote down.

"I just wrote down what I thought was right," Alex said but was a little unhappy because he didn't put in any effort.

Alex took a quick shower and changed into a new pair of clothes and called up his uncle.

"Hey, uncle. Uh... Today I read our teacher's memory and I cheated the pop quiz." said Alex frowning.

"Is that what you meant by intellectual category?"

"Hahaha. Yes, but for now we're still unsure. You're going to experience different other mutations. Let's just wait to see the results."

"Oh. Okay. Bye"

He hung up the call and brushed his hand through his hair and sighed.

He sat on his desk, opened up his laptop.

The sound of buttons being pressed filled Alex's room as he surfed the internet.

"Telepath" he keyed in the words into the Google search engine.
