《Boss's Order's》Chapter 5

The next day I'm discharged just after dinner. My brother Marcus, comes in to pick me up and drops me off home, he promised to visit in the evening to check up on me; but he's not really that reliable so don't hold him to it.

Ordering some groceries online to be delivered, I go take a long bath, and wash my hair after getting the doctors approval.

Throwing on some pj shorts and a matching tank top, I dry my hair and tie it up into a high ponytail.

Slumping onto my sofa I turn Netflix on, and order a pizza.

I'm halfway through my film when I hear the doorbell, assuming it's the pizza man, I grab a twenty from my purse and unlock the door.

It's not however the pizza man, and I stare up at the serious face of Alexander Steele.

"Oh sorry, wasn't expecting anyone, I thought you were the pizza boy....Uhm do you want to come in, maybe?" I ask nervously.

"Yeah. Sorry to bother you so late, I just wanted to come talk to you about something." He replies sounding hoarse.

I stand aside and let him in, just as the pizza boy arrives. His eyes go wide at what I'm wearing, but I'm too tired and hungry to be bothered.

"Can I get you anything else miss?" He asks leering slightly. "Anything at all?"

"Uh, no thanks. Here's twenty, keep the change." I reply annoyed.

Shutting the door behind me, I see Alexander watching and waiting for me in the hallway.

Walking into my kitchen I place the pizza box on the kitchen island, and grab a plate. Looking up at Alexander I motion to the pizza "You want any? It's pepperoni and mushrooms?" I ask politely. "I won't eat it all myself, anyway?"

He nods, and I grab another plate. Sharing the pizza equally, I grab a soda from the fridge and offer him one. He takes a Coke and I sit at the table I have in my kitchen; it's not big but it's large enough for me.

We eat in comfortable silence, and I wonder why he's here.

Once we've finished and carried our plates to the sink, I look at him expectantly, and wait for him to say something.

He clears his throat, and looks uncomfortable.

"Miss Stewart? I'm just visiting to inform you that I'll be taking over for my father at the office," he mumbles. Not saying anything I hadn't already expected "I also came to talk to you about your job, I have a personal assistant already Miss Stewart, so I no longer need your services. I'm very sorry, but I'm going to have to let you go, I don't want to after everything you've done for our family, but I really have no choice." he tells me bluntly "I'll give you a excellent review though, so it shouldn't take you very long to find other work. I'm very sorry again." He says getting up and letting himself out of my house.

I just sit there stunned. How can he do this to me? I'm very good at what I do, and shouldn't have to leave just because he's taking over. Feeling angrier than I ever had, I chuck out the trash, climbing the way up to my room after locking up, I weakly throw myself on my bed sobbing.

How had my life changed this much in less than a week? I had a good job, a healthy boss, and no banging headache or stitches to contend with.

Laying down and curling into a ball, I sob myself to sleep feeling worthless. And hating Alexander Steele for doing this to me.
