《The Jewels of Mahavhar: The Great Stone of Grigori.》Chapter XXI: Galenhaim

When night came, Haruth gathered his companions at the main room in Massin's cave.
“Listen carefully, I know our main quest has been delayed and I know some of you have enjoyed their rest here.” He looked at Krog and his two friends Rudolph and Manyar, who were smiling and indeed enjoyed the peaceful stay. Silverfang and Olum weren’t against it either, since Olum wasn’t feeling well. Her due date was close at hand and her belly became heavier by the day. She was in her late days of the seventh month. Harvick on the other hand wasn’t fond of wizards and Massin he disliked very much. If it wasn’t for Silverfang, he would have walked back home with his mar.
“We won’t be staying for long. I have one last thing to do with Massin and we will be ready to take off to our main course.” Haruth added.
“And what would that be?” Asked him Helein Silverfang.
“We’re crafting an instrument.” The wizard simply said.
“Instrument? You mean a weapon?” Asked Rudolph.
“No, well yes kind of...” Haruth replied hesitantly. “And a very dangerous one. So its making won’t be harmless. We’ll need you to stay out of the cave for a while. You’re not allowed in unless I tell you so, that if you value your lives of course.” He declared.
“You mean outside the cave??” Inquired Manyar of him. “Weren’t there some weird creatures that might eat us or something?”
“Moonwits do not dwell around the cave. You have nothing to worry about, I will also leave my best guard with you.” Haruth comforted them.
“And who might that be?” Asked him Krog laughing.
“You.” Answered Haruth smiling.
“Wait what?” Krog was confused, again. “Oh come on! I want to sleep! Ah fuck you... alright I guess.”
“Please... do not come inside. To tell you the truth, we have absolutely no idea what we’re expecting Massin and I... I wouldn’t want to put you in any life threatening situations.” Implored them Haruth one last time.
They all looked at each other expecting someone to oppose to the wizard's instructions but none did.
“Alright wizard. We won’t bother you.” Declared Silverfang.
Haruth thanked them before going inside where Massin awaited him. She was dressed in a colourful robe and looked younger as usual although age isn’t what she was missing.
“I see you have dressed for the occasion. I should have done the same but this is all I have.” He said teasing his tutor.
“I wanted to dress properly for my last Hedra.” She declared.
“Last? What do you mean?” Haruth was confused.
“Haruth son of Zion, I was eager to meet you before I met you. And I feared you when I first saw you.” She smiled while caressing his cheek. “I have two last things to tell you before we start. One, tonight I meet my fate and I’m terrified of it but I cannot escape it. None can. Two, you my child should seek Goldeneye. You will learn a bitter truth but you will be glad, for your family holds the hope of this world. You are the son of a great lineage. I cannot tell you more because that is all I know. Beware who you are child.”

“I see. I hope this works out Massin... No I promise you I will make it worth it.” He smiled and kissed her forehead. He then reached for his newly made guembri.
“One last thing, the stone of Grigori.” Massin said.
“What of it?” He asked.
“Ankros will not give it away easily.” She declared. “You will have to prove your worth. It is his duty to guard it.”
“Oh that I know. And we will be ready for it.” Haruth said.
“Good. Now let us start child.” She leaned to grab her own guembri.
The two of them sat one in front of the other, with their instruments on their laps.
“Bring out the heart Haruth.” Ordered him Massin.
Haruth grabbed a black stone he kept in his inner pockets. It was ominous and the energy emanating from it was very strong.
“It’s as if he is here with us.” Massin shivered.
Haruth chanted a spell to break the seal and the heart of Galenhaim emerged from the stone. It was of dark red and pumped faintly, Haruth dropped the stone and grabbed the heart with his two hands. He never held it this way before, the heartbeats sent shivers down his spine.
“This was the heirloom of my family and never in my life did I look at it this close. My ancestors are probably cursing me from where they are.” He smiled nervously.
“He must be unaware of this right now.” Declared Massin. “But he won’t be for long. We should be quick.”
Haruth gave the heart to Massin, who held it carefully and bitterly. She wasn’t entirely with the idea of sealing Galenhaim’s heart in the guembri. The veer was after all one of the Gate Keepers in the doomed realm, Galenhaim was strong enough to kill both of them given the right chance.
“I wonder why he never tried to take it back.” Massin pondered on the situation.
“He did, once. According to my father, Galenhaim attacked him in the doomed realm when his father before him passed down the heart to him. Galenhaim thought my father wasn’t strong enough to oppose him or hurt the heart.” Explained Haruth.
“I suppose he regretted it.” Said Massin.
“Oh yes he did. The scar on Galenhaim’s face was a gift from my father.” Haruth chuckled. “But father said it was no easy business fighting that beast. Galenhaim is weakened without his heart, the fear of dying is what held his full strength and he couldn’t risk the safety of his heart.”
“We have that small advantage as well now. We better put it to use.” Said Massin. “Put down the guembri Haruth. We start now.”
The wizard did as Massin bid him, and laid his instrument down.
“Cast the shield Haruth.” She added while putting the heart steadily next to the small sound hole of the guembri, where the tailpiece was.
Haruth pulled a stone and chanted a quick spell. A shockwave sprung from the transparent stone he held, and like wind it gently moved everything around them and beyond the cave walls.
“It will at least help keep anything from leaving this place if anything should goes wrong...” Whispered Massin.
She then started to hum very deeply while wavering her hands around the heart. Massin pulled a red stone and chanted her spells, and a light shone from the stone. “Forgive the sinful when they mean no harm.” She prayed.

“Peace be upon the worthy, worshiping time and again." Haruth joined her in her prayer. "From thou I came, and to thou I return. O' Mighty thou were, and Mighty...” Their prayers were interrupted with what felt like an earthquake. The heart started to beat faster and stronger.
“O' mighty thou were, and Mighty thou will be.” Carried Massin.
“He knows...” Whispered Haruth to Massin who nodded in agreement.
Smoke started to swirl around them slowly, and dust fell from the rocky ceiling of the cave.
“Bring out the infinite oath fire Haruth quick.” Ordered Massin.
Haruth pulled his main stone. “Are we going to burn it?” He asked.
“We will have to seal its essence inside the tailpiece" She explained hastily. She felt fear creep upon her own heart, her hands were shaking. “It will influence the music you will play. The magical essence from the demonic strings will fuse with Galenhaim's heart and the music you will play will bend the strong to your will!” Her fear turned to ecstatic thrills. The smoke became violent and swirled like a hurricane around them. “Haruth son of Zion we are making history! The end is nigh but so is the beginning!”
Haruth covered his eyes from the dust carried by the windy smoke but Massins exultation affected him as well and he was smiling confidently.
“HELP! PLEASE HELP!” Cried a familiar voice coming inside the main room. “HARUTH! HELP!”
Haruth and Massin taken by surprise by the uninvited voice stood up swiftly. The dense smoke made it hard for them to see who it was. And they could barely hear for the smoke also hissed and cried.
“WHO’S THERE?!” Yelled Haruth grabbing as fast as he could two stones. He saw a disproportionate silhouette walk towards them but he couldn’t make up who it was.
“IT’S HELEIN! PLEASE HELP ME DAMN IT!” The man cried, Haruth stepped closer and he saw faintly Helain holding in his arms his wife who was sweating and in pain.
“She meets her fate at last.” Whispered Massin. “BRING HER IN!” She screamed. Silverfang laid his wife down and Massin put a pillow under her head. The merciless smoke kept getting thicker and faster. The witch spread the woman’s legs quickly and put her hands in between them.
“The baby's head isn’t down yet! Her feet came first. She won’t make it.” Massin declared.
“Please... please...” Moaned Olum in pain. Her hands were pulling on the rugs underneath her.
“You shouldn’t be here!” Haruth chastised Silverfang while Olum cried in pain and breathed rapidly and heavily.
“You think I want to?!” Objected Silverfang.
Suddenly the smoke stopped and everything went still, the rocky walls of the cave turned marble blue. Haruth felt cold and he knew where he was. He knew this room and who dwells in it.
“You are doomed.” They heard a voice behind them say.
“And you are late.” Answered Haruth wittily. He ran towards the heart and pulled once again the infinite oath fire stone.
“HARUTH! SHE IS UNWELCOMMED!” Yelled Massin. Next to her Olum was choking and Silverfang ran towards her.
“WHAT IS GOING ON?? WHERE ARE WE? WHO IS THAT??!!” Silverfang cried distress.
“I’m sorry Silverfang. Your wife is dying, no mortal man trespasses in the doomed realm and survives. Your silver fang is what saved you from the same fate. I cannot help her. I have to deal with more urgent business.” Explained Haruth standing still and firmly.
“WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY?!” Silverfang stood up angrily, walking towards Haruth.
Massin pulled a stone and chanted a spell and a red arrow shaped ray of light emerged from it. It sprung and pierced Silverfang through his back and the large man fell on his face. “He’s out of the way for now.” Declared Massin, who stood next to Haruth, leaving behind her Olum in her demise.
“You will not keep what is mine no more! Sullied blood!.” Yelled Galenhaim in anger. The Veer was taller than the two of them and his wings spread dominantly. “You will answer for this!”
“You lived long enough shamefully at least die usefully” Answered Haruth to the veer's threat.
Galenhaim smiled terribly and then began to laugh maliciously. “You talk too much of shame and pride for someone whose own blood shamed all of us!”
Haruth didn’t understand and he made it clear to the veer.
“Oh I know you have no clue of what I’m insinuating Son of Zion. The blood you carry is cursed. Cursed by millions and by The Deity itself. The sinless have sinned and you carry his blood. Descendant of Ascended.” Galenhaim declared.
Haruth looked at Massin in confusion, still unaware of what Galenhaim meant.
“Shut your cursed mouth, vile creature!” Yelled Massin, pushing her stone towards the veer and many red arrows hissed towards him. Unfazed and unharmed Galenhaim raised his eyebrow at the witch.
“I despise deeply all Sahr that walk this land, but Summoners I hate more. Your guild think too highly of yourselves.” He stepped towards them but quickly stopped when Haruth clenched his fingers inside the veer's beating heart.
“I will end you Galenhaim. Here and now.” Stated Haruth. “Oath fire...” Before he could finish his sentence Galenhaim jumped towards him fiercely, Haruth managed to jump back and Massin stood between them.
“STEP BACK YOU UNDYING HATE!” Yelled Massin and her voice was deep and terrible. She grabbed another stone and chanted a spell quickly, a dagger emerged from it and as quickly as her spell, Massin grabbed the weapon and swung the Veer who dodged it effortlessly. “NOW HARUTH! NOW OR NEVER!” She screamed, fighting vainly the strong veer, hoping to win some time for Haruth. The wizard didn’t waste her effort and rapidly chanted his spell. The heart began to beat faster and faster by the second, Galenhaim who was running out of patience and time, screamed in rage and the walls of his hall shook around them. He punched Massin in her stomach, throwing fer off her feet. The witch struggled to stand back up but still managed to do so, grabbing her dagger with two hands. The veer's fury grew bigger and he once again punched her as hard as he could, his fist impaled the witch like a spear and blood spattered the marbled floor. The veer pushed her heartlessly with his foot and Massin fell motionless on the ground.

Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!
