《You Saw Right Through Me》The Student Council

We all had a meal and returned to our rooms. After a while, I heard the nighttime announcement, but knew full well that I wouldn't be able to sleep. I got off my bed and walked outside.
I felt the breeze as I walked around this cage we were kept in. But... Why did the breeze, the stars, the sky even... why'd they feel fake? I took off my shoes and put my feet in the grass. I didn't have to worry about getting bitten or something because all the bugs were in Gonta's research lab.
I smiled and lied down in the grass. I don't know why, but I hoped that Kokichi came again, and lay down next to me. I heard the door to the dormitories open and sat up. "Shuichi?"
Ah, they're training again. I got up and put on my shoes. "Y/N?" I looked up and saw that Shuichi had noticed me. "O-oh, hey Shuichi. You training with... Kaito?" I saw Kaito walking next to Maki as they left the dormitories.
"Sorry I'm late, I had trouble bringing her." Kaito apologised. "Oh, Y/N! Are you training, too?" I shook my head. "I just happened to be out here at the same time as you guys. Good evening Maki!" She waved. "So what am I doing here?"
"We're gonna train!" Kaito said. "It's better to train with three people instead of two, right?" I sat on the picnic table to watch.
"Is that why you brought me here? I'm leaving." Maki turned around to leave but, "Wait, Maki." She turned around and faced Kaito. He got super close to her face. "Why do you keep running away?"
"What?"
Kaito moved back a little. "You keep running away. You're not the big scary murderer everyone thinks you are. You keep running away." He looked Maki up and down. "Who's your enemy? Whoever or whatever it is, you keep running away from them. But, if you want to stand up against it, even just a little..." I smiled. "We'll stand with you, too."
Maki looked away for a moment. "Fine... I'll train with you guys." Shuichi looked confused. "D-don't get the wrong idea, it's just because he won't stop nagging me about it later if I refuse." The first thing was 100 push-ups. I was the one who was counting.
"Maki's done." I said. She stood up. "Kaito, you're only at 35... Shuichi, you're about the same." I walked back with Maki while Shuichi and Kaito continued talking. "So, Maki..." I began. "Did Kaito's speech actually motivate you?"
She looked away from me. "A little bit, but it's not like that will change everyone else's opinion on me." I sighed and looked at the sky. "I don't understand why they're afraid of you all of a sudden. It's not like you're any different from before." I looked back at the boys, who were already on the ground, continuing their training.
Maki and I went inside. "Have a good night, Maki!" I said. "Yeah, you too." I lied down in bed and actually had a nice slumber.
...
The next morning, we were told to go to the gym. When I arrived, it looked just like after Rantaro's death: all clean. Like nothing ever happened, but I know it did.
Miu told Shuichi that she was tinkering around with the computer last night. "So that's why I didn't hear anything from her research lab."
I looked at Kiibo, who was looking at the ground. "Jealous, Kiibo?" Kiyo asked. Wait, what? "N-no! I'd never be jealous of a computer!" Wait, WHAT?

"Guys, am I hallucinating or something? Why would she be here?" Kokichi pointed at Maki. "Oh, calm down Kokichi." I said. "It's not like she's done anything bad to us so far."
Angie shook her head. "But maybe it's for the best. We do not need killing and death in our peaceful school!" I was about to speak up when Himiko and Tsumugi said. "Yes, what Angie said." Since when did they agree with Angie? Suddenly, the gym doors burst open and Gonta ran through them. "Everyone! It serious!"
"Oh no, the Colossal Insect is on the other side of the wall, isn't it?" Kokichi asked.
The Monokubs appeared. "We have a motive video to show you." Angie shook her head. "No, we will no longer be participating in this killing game, no matter what you tell us!" Tenko agreed.
"Because we have Atua!" Kiibo said. Since when was everyone... oh no.
"Alright, you get to resurrect one of the four people who have died so far!" Monophanie said. "W-what?" I looked at Shuichi, who was just as confused as I was. "The instructions for the resurrection are written in the Necronomicon." Monotaro explained. "By following the instructions, you can resurrect one deceased victim."
The Monokubs disappeared and left us all dumbfounded.
I looked at Kiyo. "Did you know about this?" He shook his head. "I only learned it just now, just like the rest of you. And, it is not possible to revive the dead. Sure, their souls are still there, but you cannot revive them full of flesh and blood. It's like mending broken glass."
"I do not think it's too strange." Angie said.
I sighed. So many questions are being brought to the surface. I looked at Kaito. He looked like he was about to vomit. "Are you alright?" I felt his forehead. It was warm, but nothing too abnormal. It may be a few degrees higher than it's normal temperature, but not enough to be called a fever.
Shuichi came up to me. "I don't know why, but Tenko, Kiibo, Himiko, and Tsumugi seem to be acting like... followers for Angie." I hummed. "Yeah, I noticed that, too."
"All I know is that all four of them are dead. We saw Kaede and Kirumi die in front of us. You investigated Rantaro's body with me, so we know that it was him. We saw Ryoma's skin get torn off his bones." I looked up. "I want to believe that we can bring them back. I really do... but I know that it will never be possible. At least not them, themselves."
"If friends still alive, maybe they write words in courtyard." Gonta said. "Gonta go check, and there more letter now." More letters? So it couldn't have been from whoever was in this school before. I sighed from everyone talking over each other and left the gym.
I sat down in the plants growing in the hallway to clear my head. "Nothing adds up. Why wasn't I at the funeral? Why am I the only one that didn't get my talent and memories taken away from me? Why is everyone suddenly at Angie's hand? What was that writing? Who wrote it?" Hundreds of questions swirled through my head.
Everyone had left the gym to go about their day, so I decided to do so as well.
"What happened while I was gone?" I asked Shuichi. "Somehow, Angie made everyone join this student council. And by everyone, I mean Kiibo, Tenko, Himiko, Tsumugi, and now Gonta. They took the Necronomicon, and I'm scared of what they're planning to do with it."

I nodded and went to my room. I got bored so I decided to go down to the library and continue reading the book I was reading a few days ago. About an hour later, I heard the nighttime announcement. "I guess Kaito, Maki, and Shuichi will be training."
I got up and went back to the dormitories. "Y/N." I turned and saw Kaito peeking out of his dorm. "I-I'm not feeling well... so just train without me." I nodded and went to Maki and Shuichi's dorm to inform them.
We were outside, but I wasn't counting their push-ups like normal. "Y/N, you seem off. Are you okay?" I looked up at Shuichi. "Oh, I'm fine... it's just Kaito's been acting weird ever since we learned about this 'resurrection ritual.'" I brought my knees up to my chest and looked at the stars. "I guess I'm just worried."
I continued to watch as Maki and Shuichi did their push-ups. "Hey, the Ultimate Detective doesn't seem like they need to do this." Maki pointed out.
"That's true. Why'd you start?"
Shuichi looked up at both of us. "Well, I tend to overthink things and worry about what I need to do. But when I'm with Kaito, that all seems to fade away." I nodded. "He had that kind of effect, didn't he?"
They finished training and walked back to the dormitories. "I'm going to quickly stop by my research lab to get water." I said while running to the school. But I heard someone running behind me. From how fast they caught up, I assume it was Maki.
"Hey Maki, what's up?" I said. "Aren't you tired from all the push-ups?" She shook her head. "I was forced to do push-ups until I passed out, so 100 push-ups is nothing."
I looked down. "Assassin training's brutal, huh?" She looked at me. "You say that word as if it's a normal title for someone." I shook my head. "I mean, if a change of title makes me think differently of you, don't you think that's a bit... excessive?"
She nodded slightly. "I guess, but not everyone has that thought process."
She moved some hair behind her ear, nervously. "After all the training and moulding into what I am today, I'm wondering what I even am anymore. Kiibo seems to act more human than me. But I had no choice but to... why am I talking to you about this?"
I put my hand on her shoulder. "Sometimes letting it all out makes you feel better, even if all the other person did is listen."
"Shuichi said that he didn't really want to be a detective. It just happened." I looked at her. "I'm not saying that both of your situations are the same, but they are similar. I doubt you wanted to become an assassin because of the way people would treat you. But not everyone will treat you that way, you know. Shuichi, Kaito, and I are perfectly comfortable with hanging out with you, so don't think something silly like a title will change that."
She smiled with her eyes, from what I could tell, and turned around. "Goodnight, Maki!"
I went to my research lab and grabbed one of the water bottles that was there. When I went back to the dormitories, however, I saw a few more figures through the windows than just Maki.
I opened the door slightly and saw this so-called "student council" crowded around Maki. "It is not safe to walk around at night, you know." Angie said. "Why? It's not breaking any rules."
"None of Monokuma's rules. Those don't matter. But Kirumi's crime happened at night, right?" Tsumugi put her hand on her hip. "If nobody was allowed to walk around at nighttime, that crime wouldn't have happened."
"That's why the student council is trying to limit all nighttime activity." Kiibo said. "Limit? So basically you want to take our freedom away, right?"
Whether or not they think of it like that, Maki was right. We should be allowed to do what we want in our own time. "You're so odd, Maki. What's more important: freedom or a person's life? We need to remove all worry and doubt, so everyone can have a peaceful life here."
I shut the door before I could hear anymore. "What are they planning?"
They finally left and I went inside. The next morning, I didn't hear anymore than a bing bong ding dong and saw Monokuma's frazzled figure on the monitor.
I went to the dining hall and was greeted with an angry shout. "You can't just do this!" It was Kaito. I assume he was referring to the lengths the student council is going to keep everyone "safe".
"Huh? But I have Atua's blessing." Angie said. "I know you claim to be the student council or somesuch, but aren't we going a bit too far?" Kiyo asked.
I walked up to Kaito. "What's going on?" He looked aggravated. "These guys did something unbelievable! They blocked the manhole leading to the underground!" The manhole from the first day? "Gonta put heavy rocks on top of manhole so no one can use it anymore!"
This isn't like Gonta. He's usually quite... diplomatic. "Why would you do that?" Shuichi asked. "Cuz the manhole is a reminder of our desire to leave this place!"
I looked at Angie. "Y-You're planning to stay here forever?" She nodded. "She does everything on her own without asking for our opinion!" Kaito complained.
"I guess it's good to know everyone's opinion, but we'd get nothing done." Tsumugi said. "So we just need to trust the student council president. She can hear Atua after all!" What is with this Atua business?
Angie gave that familiar hug to Tsumugi. "Angie... does Atua have red eyes and black hair?" That description sounds... familiar. I can't think of a face though. I pulled everyone that wasn't "infected" away from Angie. This is dangerous, and I need to figure out why it's happening.
"Maki, Miu, and Shuichi were out at nighttime. It seems we must tighten our control." Kiibo said. Ah, so they didn't know that I was out as well. "We must forbid anyone but the student council from walking at nighttime." Angie said with her hands folded.
"Forbid? Isn't that extreme?"
The Monokubs arrived. "We want you to be closer to each other, so I brought this." Monodam held up a Flashback Light. Suddenly, Angie took the Flashback Light and... "Angie!" I yelled as the Flashback Light hit the floor. "The student council has decided that we will no longer be using Flashback Lights anymore!"
"Flashback Lights only restore our memories of the outside world, but we don't need those memories anymore."
I stood in between the student council and everyone else. "What on earth, Angie? This isn't going to help anything!" I was suddenly pulled towards Angie and she embraced me. "Oh Y/N, you worry too much." I felt my head spin and my vision blur when I was suddenly pulled away from Angie's grasp and into Kokichi.
"No way you're getting Y/N as well! What are you even planning?!" Angie giggled. "Well, we're going to resurrect one of our friends, of course! If we were to get a time limit, like the one that got Rantaro killed, we'd need a sacrifice." I gritted my teeth. "You're going to revive someone just to kill them again?"
"You have some cruel plans for someone who wants to stop the killing game." Kiyo said.
"Life cannot always be fun and smiles. Atua must make difficult, even cruel, decisions." That's not an excuse. I looked at Kaito, who was sweating bullets and his lips were quivering. "Are you crazy? You do realize that was a motive for the killing game, right?"
"The motive is of no concern to us. As long as you don't have a reason to escape!" Angie's sounding more and more suspicious. She's already taken control of half of us. "By the way, who are you planning to resurrect?" Kokichi asked. "After a discussion with Atua, we've decided to resurrect... Rantaro Amami!"
My eyes widened and I gripped Rantaro's necklace. "No!" I yelled. "You're not bringing him back just for me- for us to watch him die again!" Angie giggled. "It's getting late. I will pray to Atua that the ritual goes well!" And with that, everyone in the student council left.
I sat down at a chair, in utter disbelief of what just happened. "She acts like it's Atua's will, but it's probably hers." Maki said.
"Yes, but we cannot go against them. Extreme faith is frightening, you know." Kiyo was right in that department.
"Then it's an all out war with the student council! Six on six, we've got this. Also, we have the assassin on our side, so just kill them nice and quick." Kokichi suggested.
"Y/N, are you okay?" Shuichi asked. I nodded. "It's just... I trusted Angie... but she's doing this! And for what?" I felt a hand on my back. I looked up and saw Kaito, but I don't think it was a comforting pat on the back.
"Dear lord, Kaito, you look awful!" I took out my handkerchief and wiped away the sweat dripping down his face. "You look like you're about to pass out! Alright, we're going to go to your room and you're going to rest, okay?"
He shook his head. "N-no, I'm fine. It's just, I know that we can't resurrect the dead!" I have a feeling that's not the only reason he's sweating bullets. "Kaito, your knees are shaking. We're going to bring you to your room, alright?" He finally agreed and I helped him get to the dormitories.
I brought two buckets, one of warm water and a cloth from Kirumi's research lab, and a water bottle from mine. I tried making soup, but it definitely didn't taste as good as Kirumi's.
"Alright Kaito, if you feel like vomiting, just lean over this bucket right here." I put the bucket next to his bed. I soaked the cloth with warm water and put it on his head. "Are you alright? I think all this stress is getting to you."
He nodded. "Y-yeah, I'm just... getting chills." Just then, I heard the intercom buzz. "Maki?" I said once I opened the door. I wasn't expecting her to be here. "Is he okay?"
I tilted my head from side to side. "I wouldn't say yes, but he says he's fine." I invited her inside and we both sat next to his bed. "He says he's... fine?" I nodded. "But I've never seen a 'fine' person look like this."
I heard footsteps from outside. "I guess Shuichi's here." Maki went to open the door. "Kaito's not feeling well." She told Shuichi. "I think we're going to have to reschedule training anyways." Kaito said. I crossed my arms. "That's unlike you. What happened to the outgoing and impulsive Kaito I know?"
"Shuichi, I'm sorry... but I think I'll need to leave training up to you." Shuichi nodded and both him and Maki left into the courtyard as I shooed Kaito into his room. He was unable to sleep, and he refused to eat the soup I made him. I heard a knock on the door.
Once I opened it, I saw Tenko. "Tenko, I'm not out if I'm-" "I need your help." I looked at Tenko, confused. "What?"
"Well, I noticed you weren't in your room, and seeing how caring you are, I assumed you were helping Kaito." Tenko explained. "I'm... I'm not brainwashed. I just decided to infiltrate the student council and pretend I was... for Himiko's sake. I knew that I couldn't ask Kokichi, Miu, or Kiyo for help, so I was left with you, Shuichi, and Maki." I invited her inside. "Don't worry Kaito, Tenko isn't brainwashed. Try to go to sleep."
Tenko explained that she needed help to try and convince everyone in the student council to get away from Angie. "I think Himiko has gotten too lazy to think for herself, but I don't want Angie to have that privilege. She seems dangerous. I already spoke to Maki and Shuichi, and they agreed to help."
I nodded. "Well, I agree, too. Doing the resurrection ritual sounds super dangerous, especially if it's one of the motives." I held Rantaro's necklace between my fingers. "No matter how much I want to see Rantaro again... I wouldn't do it if it meant risking his and everyone's safety."
I got up. "And Shuichi and Maki are waiting outside?" Tenko nodded. "I'll be right back, Kaito."
We ran to the Ultimate Artist lab to stop Angie from doing the ritual, running to the third floor and found the colourful door of the lab. "Angie, it's Tenko, I need to speak to you!"

The Demon King Absolutely Has No Attachments
Welcome to Akoras Online, where the power lies in your hands. This sandbox virtual reality MMO has gained a dedicated community, but it has a catch: those who die in battle have their stats reset. He enjoys the peace and quiet.) However, Kas' dreams of being left alone are banished over and over by challengers with various grievances against him. Among them is Gabriel, the celebrity "Hero" of Akoras, who has just as much time on his hands as Kas. Seriously, Gabriel tries to fight him a lot. It’s getting kind of tiring… Wait, this guy isn’t even in high school yet! The (not-so) idyllic trials of a Demon King and a Hero, with a raging faction war in the background. Now updates on Tuesdays, with the odd chapter in between.
